| Magic | The word magic is derived from the ancient word "mag" that means priest. Real magic is the work of a priest. A real magician is a priest. "Magic, according to Novalis, is the art of influencing the inner world consciously." - from The Mystery of the Golden Blossom "When magic is explained as it really is, it seems to make no sense to fanatical people. They prefer to follow their world of illusions." - The Revolution of Beelzebub
"Those who believe that they can perform marvels with only the force of the mind are completely mistaken, because everything in Nature is dual . To think that all the works of practical magic can be performed with only the force of the mind is as absurd as to White Magic: see Theurgy. Black Magic: see Goetia. |
| Magical Triangle | (or the Triangle of Priesthood) The third trinity of the Tree of Life: Netzach, Hod, and Yesod. “The third triangle becomes very interesting because this is the Magical Triangle formed by the mind or Netzach, the Astral Body or Hod, and the Ethereal Body or Yesod, which is also the basic sexual principle of Universal Life. Why this is called the Magical Triangle? Undoubtedly, it is because High Magic is exercised in the kingdom of the mind and the kingdom of the Astral and even in the Klipoth or the Infernal Worlds.” - The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Magnes | (Latin) Canon, principle or prima materia. |
| Magnetic Center | "Each of us is characterized by a Magnetic Center. The Magnetic Center of a merchant is in trade, and for this reason they are involved in the marketplace and attract those with whom they have an affinity: buyers and traders. Scientists have in their personality the Magnetic Center of science, consequently attracting all scientific things: books, laboratories, etc. The esotericist has the Magnetic Center of esoterism within. This type of center evolves differently in relation to the personality. Undoubtedly, for this reason transference occurs. When the Magnetic Center is established in the Consciousness, that is, in the Essence, then the complete human begins his return to the stars." - The Great Rebellion |
| Magnus | (Latin) “Great.” See “Misterium Magnum.” |
| Maha-Choan | Sanskrit for “Chief Lord.” “The head of a spiritual Hierarchy.” - from
the Theosophical Glossary. Can be a reference to the Holy Spirit. "The seventh initiation confers upon us the degree of “Maha-choan.” The Maha-choan becomes a guardian of the Akasic archives and director of the works of the Great White Lodge." - The Zodiacal Course |
| Maha-Vidya | (Sanskrit) The science of the Kabbalah with all its invocations,
mathematical symbols and liturgy, which can be angelic or diabolic; it
all depends on the type of person that uses it. |
| Mahakalpa | (Sanskrit) “The Great (maha) Age (kalpa).” "Truthfully, the quantities of years assigned to a Cosmic Day are symbolic. The Cosmic Night arrives when the ingathering of the perfect souls is complete, which means, when the Cosmic Day is absolutely perfected." - from The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Mahamanvantara | (Sanskrit) “The Great Day.” A period of universal activity, as opposed to a Mahapralaya, a cosmic night or period of rest. "I was absorbed within the Absolute at the end of that Lunar Mahamanvantara, which endured 311,040,000,000,000 years, or, in other words, an age of Brahma." - The Revolution of Beelzebub "Truthfully, the quantities of years assigned to a Cosmic Day are symbolic. The Cosmic Night arrives when the ingathering of the perfect souls is complete, which means, when the Cosmic Day is absolutely perfected." - from The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Mahamanvantara of Padma | The previous cosmic day. |
| Mahamudra | (Sanskrit, literally “great seal” or "great symbol"; Tibetan Chagya Chenpo) The method of direct introduction to the nature of the consciousness (or Buddha-nature) and the practice of stabilizing the accompanying transcendental realization. This teaching originated in India and was propagated in Tibet. Teachers of this method include Maitreya, Asanga, Atisha, Nagarjuna, Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa, and many more. While primarily related to the Kagyu school, it is also studied and practiced in the Gelug and Sakya schools. Very similar teachings are found in the Nyingma school, but are called Dzogchen, which means “Great Perfection, Great Completeness, Total Completeness, Supercompleteness..." The instructions that point to the Dzogchen state are sometimes described as a set of "inner" or "heart" (Tib. snying thig) teachings. Students of Dzogchen and Mahamudra often attend each others schools, because the two are so similar.
"The disciple must receive instructions from his own Innermost, and the duty of the Innermost is to instruct his Bodhisattva, that is to say, his Soul who is anxious for Light. The doctrine of “Shin-Sien” teaches that the human mind is like a mirror, which attracts and reflects each dust atom, and has to be dusted each day, until becoming a “Christ-mind.” Shin-Sien was the sixth patriarch of northern China, who taught the esoteric doctrine of “Bodhidharma.” In Sanskrit, the internal chamber of the heart is called “Brahma-pura” (the city of the supreme God). The disciple should become a master of Samadhi. Buddha dharma is the religion of wisdom in China. The doctrine of the heart is called the seal of the truth, or the “true seal.” - The Zodiacal Course |
| Mahayana | (Sanskrit; Tibetan: tekpa chenpo) Literally, "Great Vehicle."
Traditionally, the Mahayana is viewed as the teachings of the second
turning of the Wheel of Dharma by the Buddha Shakyamuni, which
emphasized sunyata (emptiness), compassion, and universal buddha-nature
(the essence). Gnosis as taught by Samael Aun Weor is in perfect
congruence with Mahayana Buddhism, but Gnosis goes further and deeper,
since it also contains the complete revelation of the Path of the
Bodhisattva. |
| Mahima | (Sanskrit) One of the eight major powers (siddhis). “The power to enlarge the physical body to the point of touching the sun and the moon with the hand.” - The Aquarian Message
“This is the opposite of Anima. He (the initiate) can become as big as he likes. He can make his body assume a very large size. He can fill up the whole universe. He can assume a Virat Svarupa.” - Swami Sivananda, Kundalini Yoga |
| Maithuna | See Sahaja Maithuna. |
| Maitreya | Literally, the term maitreya means "love." This term has several levels of application. 1. "A Permanent Buddha or Buddha of Contemplation is a Buddha who has already Christified himself, a Buddha that has already received the Inner Christ (Chenresig / Avalokitesvara) within his own internal nature. This type of Buddha is a Buddha Maitreya, since it is a Buddha who incarnated the Inner Christ (this is how the term “Maitreya” should be understood). So, Buddha Maitreya is not a person: Buddha Maitreya is a title, a degree, which indicates any given Buddha who already achieved Christification." - The Major Mysteries 2. In Mahayana Buddhism, Maitreya is the “Buddha of the Future” and is the only Buddhist figure represented seated in a chair, Western style. A Russian traveller, Nicholas Roerich, recorded the following prediction made by a Tibetan lama: “First will begin an unprecedented war of all nations. Afterward, brother shall rise against brother. Oceans of blood shall flow. They shall forget the meaning of the word Teacher (buddha, guru). But then shall the Teachers appear and in all corners of the world shall be heard the true teaching. To this word of truth shall the people be drawn, but those who are filled with darkness and ignorance shall set obstacles. As a diamond, glows the light on the tower of the Lord of Shambhala. One stone in his ring is worth more than all the world’s treasures. Even those who by accident help the Teachings of Shambhala will receive in return a hundredfold. Already many warriors of the teaching or truth are reincarnated. Only a few years shall elapse before everyone shall hear the mighty steps of the Lord of the New Era. And one can already perceive unusual manifestations and encounter unusual people. Already they open the gates of knowledge and ripened fruits are falling from the trees. The banner of Shambhala shall encircle the central lands of the Blessed One. Those who accept him shall rejoice. And those who deny him shall tremble. The denier shall be given over to justice and shall be forgotten. And the warriors shall march under the banner of Maitreya.” The Venerable Buddha Samael explained that Maitreya is a very ancient Christified Master who has been teaching the Tibetan Buddhists for centuries. He is a true Bodhisattva of the Direct Path, a Being who is one with the Cosmic Christ Avalokiteshvara, Kuan Yin, Kuan Shi Yin, Xisutrus, Vishnu, Chokmah. Not all of the Buddhas follow the Direct Path; most of them are Buddhas Pratyekas (Nirvanis of the Spiral Path). As in Esoteric Christianity we call Christ anyone who becomes one with the Cosmic Christ, likewise, in Esoteric Buddhism we call Maitreya any Buddha who renounces Nirvana for the sake of deluded mortals. The so-called “Buddha of the Future Age” is of course Samael because He is a Maitreya Buddha, a Buddha from the Direct Path, a very ancient Buddha from ancient Mahamanvantaras who became the life-core of the Planet Mars, the Warrior Buddha, the God of War in heaven and earth; the one who (many times in this Aryan Race, since he is the one who “cosmically” is directly responsible for this present Aryan Race, the fifth race, the Race of Aryes) has been frequently incarnated in Tiphereth within those Buddhas who renounced Nirvana and took the Direct Path. Any Buddha who renounces Nirvana for the sake of deluded mortals becomes, as a matter of fact and by his own right, a Buddha Maitreya, because they incarnate Him. As Samael Aun Weor wrote in The Aquarian Message, "The one who writes this book gives testimony of this prophecy, because I am the servant or Bodhisattva of the fifth of the seven. The Son speaks the word of the Father and he gives testimony of the Father. The Father is one with the Son, the Son is one with the Father. The Son feels that he is unworthy to undo the buckles of the Father’s shoes. Only the Father is perfect. The Father is glorified in the Son and the Son is glorified in the Father. The Maitreya Buddha Samael is the Kalki Avatar of the New Age; he is the one who sat upon the white horse. Nevertheless, his son, the poor servant who writes this Aquarian Message, really does not feel worthy of kissing the sacred feet of the Father. Therefore, the Buddha Maitreya gloriously shines, but his son kneels before him." |
| Malachim | (Hebrew) Literally, “kings.” The singular form is “melech.” 1. One of the classes of angels or sanctified souls. Related to the sephirah Tiphereth. Corresponds to the Christian hierarchal level “Virtue” and “Principality.” 2. In the world of Yetzirah, Tiphereth receives the name of Malachim. |
| Malkuth | (Hebrew for Kingdom) The "fallen sephirah." Malkuth is the Physical World or the Physical Body. "The physical world is the valley of bitterness, the kingdom of Malkuth, the kingdom of Samsara. The Wheel of Samsara incessantly turns and the ego comes and goes; it disincarnates and returns always suffering, always searching without finding. The Tenth Arcanum, the Wheel of Retribution, is terrible, and the whole world is a slave of this fatal Wheel of the Centuries. Whosoever wants to be liberated from the fatal Wheel of Samsara must dissolve the “I” and incarnate the Soul. This labor is very difficult and those who achieve it are very rare. Really, the kingdom of Malkuth is a terrible filter. The refuse of this filter is what is common and current, which is swallowed by the Abyss. The gold, the select, the true Human Being, the Angel, is the conception, and the struggle is indeed difficult. Nature is implacable and the birth of an Angel-Human Being costs thousands, or better said, millions of victims. 'Many are called and few are chosen.'” - from Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Mama | "When I traveled through the countries of South America, I knew an Indian that lived near the Summum Supremum Sanctuarium (in Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, Colombia). He was a "Mama," a kind of Mahatma. He was a small man of about one meter; he did not have more than one meter [in height] and some centimeters. His hair was long, his chin black and long, wearing a tunic, he looked like a small thin Christ." - Samael Aun Weor Mamas are the name given to the Initiate-Priests that live amongst three tribes: Arhuaco, Kogi and Assario. These three tribes live amongst the native groups on The Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, Colombia (the highest coastal mountain in the world). The Arhuaco, Kogi and Assario are descendants of the Tairona civilization that flourished before the time of the Spanish Invasion. The Tairona civilization that flourished in South America was directly descended from the Atlantean Civilization. These Mamas are pure blooded natives, however, when they interact with the South American Spanic Society, they adopt Spanish names and surnames. "So, we knew two powerful enlightened beings, which were absolutely illiterate. One was this uncivilized Indian (a Mama) of La Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta (Colombia)... "He started talking about themes that I had written in The Revolution of Beelzebub. I said to him, "How is this, Brother Bernardino Alfaro Torres?" (He was baptized with that Latin name by a Missionary) "How is this," I said, "that you know about my book The Revolution of Beelzebub, if you do not know how to write, neither to read... if you are illiterate?" "Sir, we the members of the tribe of Mamas, do not need to read a book. We examine it in the Astral World. The book The Revolution of Beelzebub is a book of the Goddess Nature and we have it on the altars of our Temples-Sanctuaries..." "He was an astonishing man: he knew the entire book; he spoke about Nirvana, of a Golden City in the Nirvanic world... " |
| Manas | Sanskrit for mind. The root of the term "man." |
| Mandingoes | The so called Malinkés or Mandingoes are generally Muslim, having abandoned earlier Pantheist beliefs; they constituted a significant social group in Africa before their arrival to America as slaves. They were the founders of the old Mali Empire, located at the moment in French Sudan; they formed the most powerful state of Western Africa between 1240 and the XVI century during the reign of Musa Bellwether (1312-1327). Malinkés or Mandingoes were partially converted to Islam by the Fula or Fulani (an ethnic group of black Arabicized people spread over many countries in Western Africa) and, due to this, a rich empire was formed under the interchange of cultural and religious beliefs between African Arabs. Historical aspects, as the one above, influenced powerfully in the religious and cultural product of the Afro-Arabic mixture that equipped the Malinkés or Mandingoes with numerous acquaintances that were subject under the ancestral common property of two worlds. This particular characterization of the inhabitants of the tribe Malinké was the one that came to America as Mandingo African slaves. Once already in the New World, this racial group (unlike the other originating tribes of the diverse territories of Africa) was much feared because they had the infamy of being great wizards, as well as being rebellious against the owners of the plantations. Thus, this reaffirmed that they were transgressors of the law of the white people. This is why the Mandingoes were also known in the New World as “Mandingas,” and the name of this tribe became associated with very strong witchcraft spells of black magic, this is why later on the word “Mandingo or Mandinga” happened to be associated with witchcraft and became synonymous with “witches” and “devils.” |
| Manna | see “Ambrosia.” |
| Manteia | A term from the Eleusian Mysteries referring to a state of consciousness in which the essence becomes free of the ego. |
| Mantra | (Sanskrit, literally "mind protection") A sacred word or sound. The use of sacred words and sounds is universal throughout all religions and mystical traditions, because the root of all creation is in the Great Breath or the Word, the Logos. "In the beginning was the Word..." |
| Manu | (Sanskrit) From Hindu mythology, the progenitor and lawgiver of the human race. From H.P. Blavatsky: “Who was Manu, the son of Swayambhuva? The secret doctrine tells us that this Manu was no man, but the representation of the first human races evolved with the help of the Dhyan-Chohans (Devas, Elohim) at the beginning of the first round. But we are told in his Laws (Book I. 80) that there are fourteen Manus for every Kalpa -- or interval from creation to creation -- and that in the present divine age, there have been as yet seven Manus... We are told in the Sacred Hindu scriptures that the first Manu produced six other Manus (seven primary Manus in all), and these produced in their turn each seven other Manus (Bhrigu I, 61-63) -- the production of the latter standing in the occult treatises as 7 x 7. Just as each planetary Round commences with the appearance of a ‘Root Manu’ (Dhyan Chohan) and closes with a ‘Seed-Manu,’ so a Root and a Seed Manu appear respectively at the beginning and the termination of the human period on any particular planet.” |
| Mara | (Sanskrit) 1. The "demon" who tempted the Buddha during the final stages of his awakening. 2. Four types of evil influences:
|
| Marapleicie | "During those epochs unknown to Cesar Cantu and his “Universal
History,” another beautiful country existed in Asia, known as
Marapleicie. This country traded with Tikliamis and a very strong
commercial competition existed between them. Later on, the
country of Marapleicie changed its name to Gobland due to the great
city of Gob. Gobland and its powerful city were swallowed up by
the sands of the desert. So, within the sands of the Gobi desert
many wealthy Atlantean treasures are hidden as well as powerful
machines that are unknown by the populaces of this Aryan Root Race." - The Kabbalah of the Mayan Mysteries |
| Mars | As a planetary influence, Mars is related to: "Wars, military matters, police matters, quarrels, leaders, works related to money, big businesses, matters related with judges, and with tribunals, etc." - Manual of Practical Magic. Governed by Samael. |
| Mary Magdalene | Mag-dale-ne: 1. Mag, Magi (various languages) "priest" or "priestess" 2. Dalene - Dalan "valley," preserved from extinction in north of England by Norse infl. Akin to words for "bow" (v.), probably through the notion of a bend in the ground."
Mag-dalene means therefore: a Priestess Adept from other lands or valleys: a white priestess wife. Mary Magdalene was the priestess-spouse of Jesus of Nazareth, and is a great Gnostic Initiate. "Mary Magdalene, as well as Salambo, Matres, Ishtar, Astarte, Aphrodite and Venus all represent the priestess-wife with whom we must practice sexual magic in order to awaken the Fire (of the Holy Spirit; the Kundalini)." - The Perfect Matrimony |
| Master | Like many terms related to spirituality, this one is grossly misunderstood. Samael Aun Weor writes while describing the Germanic Edda, "In this Genesis of creation we discover Sexual Alchemy. The Fire fecundated the cold waters of chaos. The masculine principle Alfadur fecundated the feminine principle Niffleheim, dominated by Surtur (the Darkness), to bring forth life. That is how Ymir is born, the father of the giants, the Internal God of every human being, the Master." Therefore, the Master is the Innermost, Atman, the Father. "The value of the human person which is the intellectual animal called human being is less than the ash of a cigarette. However, the fools feel themselves to be giants. Unfortunately, within all the pseudo-esoteric currents a great amount of mythomaniac people exist, individuals who feel themselves to be Masters, people who enjoy when others call them Masters, individuals who believe themselves to be Gods, individuals who presume to be Saints. The only one who is truly great is the Spirit, the Innermost. We, the intellectual animals, are leaves that the wind tosses about... No student of occultism is a Master. True Masters are only those who have reached the Fifth Initiation of Major Mysteries. Before the Fifth Initiation nobody is a Master." - Excerpts from The Perfect Matrimony "You are not the Master, you are only the sinning shadow of He who has never sinned. Remember that only your internal Lamb is the Master. Remember that even though your internal God is a Hierarch of fire, you, poor slug, are only a human being and as a human being you will always be judged. Your internal Lamb could be a planetary God, but you, poor slug of the mud, do not forget, always remember that you are only the shadow of your God. Poor sinning shadow..! Do not say “I am this God” or “I am that Master,” because you are only a shadow that must resolve to die and be slaughtered in order not to serve as an obstacle for your internal God. It is necessary for you to reach supreme humbleness." - from The Aquarian Message |
| Master atom | “The mental body has an atomic nucleus which serves as its base. This nucleus is the Master Atom of the mind. This Master Atom contains the whole wisdom of Nature. Whosoever learns how to be in communication with this atom through meditation will be taught and instructed in the cosmic wisdom, since this atom is a sage. This Master Atom resides in our seminal system. By practicing Sexual Magic, this atom rises towards our head and then illuminates us in the world of the mind.” - from The Revolution of Beelzebub |
| Materialist | In the esoteric sciences, a “materialist” is one who only believes in
what his five senses can tell him, thus he relies exclusively on the
data of the sensory, third dimensional world. This type of person has
no understanding of the superior senses or the superior dimensions, and
thus is limited to what he can perceive physically. As C.W. Leadbeter
said, “It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the
limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to
see.” |
| Matrimony | from L. matrimonium "wedlock, marriage," from matrem (nom. mater) "mother" + -monium, suffix signifying "action, state, condition." Thus, matrimony means "a state or condition from which the Divine Mother can act." |
| Matripadma | (Sanskrit) The mother-lotus; the womb of nature. |
| Maya | (Sanskrit, literally "appearance, illusion, deception") Can indicate 1) the illusory nature of existence, 2) the womb of the Divine Mother, or 3) the Divine Mother Herself. |
| Meditation | "When the esoterist submerges himself into meditation, what he seeks is information." - Samael Aun Weor "It is urgent to know how to meditate in order to comprehend any psychic aggregate, or in other words, any psychological defect. It is indispensable to know how to work with all our heart and with all our soul, if we want the elimination to occur." - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled
1. The Gnostic must first attain the ability to stop the course of his thoughts, the capacity to not think. Indeed, only the one who achieves that capacity will hear the Voice of the Silence.
|
| Melchisedec | (Alternatively, Malkhi-tzedek, Malki Tzedek, or Melchisedek, which means "King of Justice or Virtue) See Gen. 14:18-20, Ps. 110:4, and Epistle to the Hebrews, ch. 7. "Melchisedec is the planetary Genie of the Earth, of whom Jesus, the great Kabir, gave testimony. Melchisedec is the Great Receiver of the Cosmic Light. Melchisedec has a physical body. He is a Man, or better if we say, he is a Super-Man. The Kingdom of Agharti is found in the subterranean caverns of the Earth. The Earth is hollow and the network of caverns constitute Agharti. The Genie of the Earth lives in Agharti with a group of survivors from Lemuria and Atlantis. The Goros, powerful Lords of life and death, work with Melchisedec. The whole ancient wisdom of the centuries has been recorded on Stone, within the Kingdom of Agharti." - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Mem |
|
| Mental Body | One of the seven bodies of the human being. Related to Netzach, the
seventh sephirah of the Tree of Life; corresponds to the fifth
dimension. "The mental body is a material organism, yet it is not the physical organism. The mental body has its ultra-biology and its internal pathology, which is completely unknown to the present men of science." - The Revolution of Beelzebub. |
| Mental World | Related to Netzach, the seventh sephirah of the Tree of Life; corresponds to the fifth dimension. |
| Mercabah | (Hebrew) Literally, “chariot.” Refers to the Soul the Initiate must build. |
| Mercury | Has many levels of meaning. "Mercury is BUDDHA, the Genie or God who is situated between the Sun and the Moon. He is the perpetual companion of the Sun of Wisdom. In Greek Mythology, Mercury displayed wings in order to express how he assisted the Sun on its sidereal course. Mercury was called Nuncio and Wolf of the Sun: Solaris Luminis Particeps. “He was the chief and the evoker of the souls, the Kabir and Hierophant.” Virgil describes Mercury holding the Caduceus or Hammer of two serpents in order to evoke to a new life those unhappy souls who were precipitated into the ORCO of classic Greeks, the Christian Limbo, TUM VIRGAM CAPIT, HAC ANIMAS ILLE EVOCAT ORCO, with the purpose of having them enter into the celestial militia." - The Doomed Aryan Race 1) the first planet of the esoteric order and the closest to the Sun-Christ. Psychologically, Mercury influences the mind and is ruled by Raphael. Related to intellectualism, journalism, law suits, sciences, trips, medicine, etc. "Journalism, intellectualism, businesses, quarrels, journeys and all types of matters related with the Mind." - Manual of Practical Magic. For an entire chapter on the planet Mercury, read The Doomed Aryan Race. 2) Mercury (Hermes) the God is the companion of the sun and the fastest of the gods. He displays radiant wings of fire to express that he was helping the Christ-Sun in its eternal course. Symbolized in Greek mythology by hare-hunting dogs or guardian dogs of celestial cattle, drinking from the very pure wells of occult wisdom. Also known as Hermes-Aunbis or as the Good Inspirator, Agathodaemon. Emperor Juliano prayed every night to the occult Sun (Christ) through the intercession of mercury… 3) Alchemically: "the metallic soul of the sperm (sperm or semen refers to sexual energy in men and women)." The sperm of all metals. The Spirit of Alchemy. "Unquestionably, the Mercury of the Wise must be fecundated by the Sulphur, in other words, by the Fire." - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled "The ancient populace worshipped the corn, wheat and rice, because the sacred seed is represented by them. Mayas and Nahuas symbolized the Mercury of the Wise with corn. The Middle East and Europe saw the blessed seed in the wheat. China, Japan and India saw the sacred sperm in the rice." - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled "The Wings of Mercury elevate us to the world of Gods." Types of Mercury:
“Firstly, there is brute Mercury, which means the Exiohehari, or sacred sperm.
“Second, there is the metallic soul of the sperm, which is the result of the transmutation of the sexual libido (the sperm). Therefore, this metallic soul is creative energy that ascends through the ganglionic spinal cords to the brain.
“The third Mercury is the most elevated. It is the Mercury that has been fertilized by Sulfur. In Alchemy, Sulfur is the sacred fire.” - From the lecture “Archeus” |
| Michael | Michael in the Sun is an ineffable Archangel. Yet, Michael within us is different. Michael is an independent and cognisant part of our own Being… Michael and Gabriel, who symbolize, the Sun and the Moon, the Sulphur and the Mercury, serve the Alchemist in order to perform the Great Work… Michael and Gabriel are two Self-cognisant and Self-independent parts of our own Being, skilled in the science of Alchemy. As Michael and Gabriel exist in the Macrocosm, they also exist within the Microcosmic Human Being. It is obvious that we always receive the Mysteries of the Light of the Height by means of the Sulphur and the Mercury. Sulphur and Mercury are fundamental in order to receive the light-stream. Michael and Gabriel carry the stream of Christic Light. Michael and Gabriel, Sulphur and Mercury, are incessantly crossing themselves in order to give origin to the Philosophical Stone. The Sulphur and Mercury (Michael and Gabriel) never steal the Light, because these two alchemical substances are the only fundamental elements of the Great Work. |
| Microcosmos | (Greek) Micro means “small, little, trivial, slight.” Cosmos means “order, harmony, the world (from its perfect order and arrangement).” In Universal Gnosticism, the term microcosmos refers to the human being, who is a universe in minature. |
| Mictlan | The Nahuatl or Aztec underworld. According to Aztec legend, there were nine levels of the Mictlan. Quetzalcoatl accompanied by Xolotl had to descend there to find the bones of humanity. See: Klipoth and Xibalba. |
| Mind | (Sanskrit, Manas) Superior Manas (Tiphereth) and Inferior Manas (Netzach). "In the name of truth we must state that in synthesis we have three minds. The first one we can and must call the Sensual Mind. The second we shall christen with the name of Intermediate Mind. The third we shall call the Inner Mind." - The Great Rebellion |
| Mindfulness | In the context of self-observation and meditation, mindfulness is the continuous consciousness of what one is doing. In Tibetan, this is called “trenpa” (dran-pa) or “memory.” In Sanskrit, it is called “smrti.” This is the seventh element of the Eightfold Path. |
| Misterium Magnum | (Latin) “The Great Mystery” |
| Molecular World | "The Temple of Anubis is found in the Molecular World, called the Astral World by many people." - The Treatise of Esoteric Astrology |
| Monad | (Latin) From monas, “unity; a unit, monad.” The Monad is the Being, the Innermost, our own inner Spirit. "We must distinguish between Monads and Souls. A Monad, in other words, a Spirit, is; a Soul is acquired. Distinguish between the Monad of a world and the Soul of a world; between the Monad of a human and the Soul of a human; between the Monad of an ant and the Soul of an ant. The human organism, in final synthesis, is constituted by billions and trillions of infinitesimal Monads. There are several types and orders of primary elements of all existence, of every organism, in the manner of germs of all the phenomena of nature; we can call the latter Monads, employing the term of Leibnitz, in the absence of a more descriptive term to indicate the simplicity of the simplest existence. An atom, as a vehicle of action, corresponds to each of these genii or Monads. The Monads attract each other, combine, transform themselves, giving form to every organism, world, micro-organism, etc. Hierarchies exist among the Monads; the Inferior Monads must obey the Superior ones that is the Law. Inferior Monads belong to the Superior ones. All the trillions of Monads that animate the human organism have to obey the owner, the chief, the Principal Monad. The regulating Monad, the Primordial Monad permits the activity of all of its subordinates inside the human organism, until the time indicated by the Law of Karma." - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology “(The number) one is the Monad, the Unity, Iod-Heve or Jehovah, the Father who is in secret. It is the Divine Triad that is not incarnated within a Master who has not killed the ego. He is Osiris, the same God, the Word.” - Tarot and Kabbalah “When spoken of, the Monad is referred to as Osiris. He is the one that has to Self-realize Himself... Our own particular Monad needs us and we need it. Once, while speaking with my Monad, my Monad told me, ‘I am self-realizing Thee; what I am doing, I am doing for Thee.’ Otherwise, why are we living? The Monad wants to Self-realize and that is why we are here. This is our objective.” - Tarot and Kabbalah "The Monads or Vital Genii are not exclusive to the physical organism; within the atoms of the Internal Bodies there are found imprisoned many orders and categories of living Monads. The existence of any physical or supersensible, Angelic or Diabolical, Solar or Lunar body, has billions and trillions of Monads as their foundation." - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |
| Moon | Ruled by Gabriel. Related to the Moon: "Journeys, manual arts, novelists, liquid-related businesses, matters related with maternity, agriculture, illnesses of the stomach and of the brain, etc." - Manual of Practical Magic. |
| Morals | "Conventional morals serve no purpose; morality is a slave to custom, time and place. What was moral in ages past is now immoral; what was moral in the Middle Ages, in these modem times, can be immoral; that which is considered moral in one country is immoral in another, etc... Unquestionably, the Christ, manifested though hidden in the heart of the real human, once he takes charge of our diverse psychological states, is actually labeled as cruel, immoral and perverse because people do not know him. It is paradoxical that although people worship the Christ, they classify him with such appalling labels. Obviously, people who are unconscious and asleep only want an anthropomorphic, historic Christ of statues and unbreakable dogmas in whom they can easily fit all their clumsy, stale moral codes and all their prejudices and conditions." - The Great Rebellion |
| Moses | (Hebrew) Actually written Moshe: from the letters Mem, "water," Shin "fire," and Hei "womb" - his name literally means "born of water and fire" - in other words, Moses was "born of the water and the Spirit (fire)" just as Jesus explained the Second Birth to Nicodemus. Moses is a Twice-born Master. 1. Author of the Torah (the first five books of the Bible), and prophet of the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim traditions. 2. An initiatic symbol of willpower. |
| Mrityuloka | (Sanskrit) The world of death: the physical world. |

"In the books of genesis (from all religious literature), the primordial matter (Mulaprakriti) is represented by the waters." - Endocrinology & Criminology "The Chaos is the raw matter of the Great Work. The Chaos is the Mulaprakriti, the primordial matter. Mulaprakriti is christonic semen, from which the universe emerged. We have Mulaprakriti in our sexual organs, and from it springs up life." - The Mysteries of the Fire |
| Mutant | "Mutation is removal, change, alteration, variation. The foundation, base, support, and groundwork of the mutant is sex." - The Cosmic Teachings of a Lama Gnosticism analyzes two forms of mutation: 1. favorable 2. unfavorable Both result from use and application of energy. A favorable mutant is a person who has become radically different and beneficial for others: Buddha, Jesus, Moses, etc. An unfavorable mutant is a person who has become more degenerated and harmful to themselves and others. |
| Mystical Death | The annihilation of the ego, symbolized in scores of religous and
mythological stories, notably in the crucifixion and the martyrdom of
saints. This death frees the consciousness from its prison, resulting
in a new spiritual birth. "The annihilation of the psychic aggregates can be made possible only by radically comprehending our errors through meditation and by the evident Self-reflection of the Being." - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled "We annihilate the “I” based on alchemical operations only." - Endocrinology & Criminology |
| Nachash | A Hebrew word spelled with the letters: Nun, Chet, Shin, meaning “serpent” and “a shining one,” from the root Nachash, to shine. Hence, in Chaldee it means brass, because of its shining! | Nahemah | "Nahemah is the mother of malignant beauty, passion and adultery." - The Perfect Matrimony |
| Nastika | "Religious esotericism does not teach atheism of any kind, except in the sense that the Sanskrit word nastika encloses: no admission of idols, including that anthropomorphic God of the ignorant populace. It would be an absurdity to believe in a celestial dictator who is seated upon a throne of tyranny and throws lightning and thunderbolts against this sad human ant hill." - The Three Mountains |
| Nativity | from Latin nativitatem (nom. nativitas) “birth.” |
| Nazarenes | As described by H.P. Blavatsky: The same as the St. John christians; called the Mendaeans or Sabeans. They designate Christ “a false Messiah” and only recognize John the Baptist, whom they call the “great Nazar.” |
| Negative Disclosure | (Egyptian) A prayer or testament found in the Egyptian Book of the Dead in which the Initiate describes in detail all of the sins he has not committed. See Chapter 48 of Cosmic Teachings of a Lama by Samael Aun Weor. |
| Nephesh | (Hebrew; alternatively, nefesh) The Animal Soul: "The Initiate must descend into the infernal worlds during forty-days and has to recapitulate all of the evil deeds and frightful dramas of his past incarnations; little by little, the Initiate departs from these tenebrous regions. Before departing, the three souls, Nephesh (Animal Soul), Ruach (Thinking Soul) and Neshamah (Spiritual Soul) are submitted to ordeals. How interesting it is to see the animal soul submitted to ordeals, as well as the thinking soul and the Essence (Part of Neshamah) that also is submitted to ordeals. The Bible states, "Nephesh, Nephesh, blood is payed with blood." Within the Hebrew words wisdom is hidden." - The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Neshamah | The Spiritual Soul: One must distinguish the difference between the Astral Body and the Lunar Bodies. The lunar bodies move during the night, and after death. Conventionally, these bodies have been called Astral Body, but they are not the Legitimate Astral Body. Whosoever wants to have the luxury of having the Legitimate Astral Body must perform the work of the Maithuna where the H-TI-12 is built (H = Hydrogen, TI = musical note, 12 = 12 Laws). The H-TI-12 vibrates in our organism with the musical scale and crystallizes in the Solar Astral Body if the practice is intense. The fraction (Buddhata) of the soul (Neshamah) that is trapped within the previously mentioned principles is submitted to very difficult ordeals. After triumphing, the Initiate ascends to the causal world to have a meeting with Sanat Kumara, a venerable Elder mentioned in very ancient religions. He is one of the four Thrones that the Bible speaks of. |
| Netzach | (Hebrew for Victory) The seventh sphere of the Tree of Life; the Mental World; the Mental Body; corresponds to the Fifth Dimension. |
| Neurasthenia | A category of mental disorder that is no longer in use. It described a condition with symptoms such as irritability, fatigue, weakness, anxiety, and localized pains without any apparant physical causes. It was thought to result from exhaustion of the nervous system. |
| Nicolaitans | “So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.” - Revelation 2:16 “Only absolute saintliness and chastity can convert us into Angels. The Nicolaitans spill the sacred wine of the temple. They waste the oil of the lamp and remain within the darkness. The Nicolaitans spill the raw matter of the Great Work in their practises of Sexual Alchemy. This is Black Tantrism... The Nicolaitans are submerging themselves into the abyss. The Nicolaitans converted themselves into terribly perverse demons.” - The Aquarian Message |
| Ninth Sphere | "The Ninth Sphere of the Kabbalah is sex." - The Perfect Matrimony The Ninth Sphere also refers to Yesod and to the lowest sphere of the Klipoth. "The great Master Hilariux IX said that in ancient times, to descend into the Ninth Sphere was the maximum ordeal for the supreme dignity of the Hierophant. Hermes, Buddha, Jesus Christ, Dante, Zoroaster, Mohammed, Rama, Krishna, Pythagoras, Plato and many others, had to descend into the Ninth Sphere in order to work with the fire and the water which is the origin of worlds, beasts, human beings and Gods. Every authentic white Initiation begins here." - The Aquarian Message |
| Nirvana | (Sanskrit, "extinction"; Tibetan: nyangde, literally "the state beyond sorrow") In general use, refers to the permanent cessation of suffering and its causes, and therefore refers to a state of consciousness rather than a place. Yet, the term an also apply to heavenly realms. "When the Soul fuses with the Inner Master, then it becomes free from Nature and enters into the supreme happiness of absolute existence. This state of happiness is called Nirvana. Nirvana can be attained through millions of births and deaths, but it can also be attained by means of a shorter path; this is the path of “initiation.” The Initiate can reach Nirvana in one single life if he so wants it." - The Zodiacal Course
"Nirvana is a region of Nature where the ineffable happiness of the fire reigns. The Nirvanic plane has seven sub-planes. A resplendent hall exists in each one of these seven sub-planes of Nirvanic matter where the Nirmanakayas study their mysteries. This is why they call their sub-planes “halls” and not merely “sub-planes” as the Theosophists do. The Nirvanis say: “We are in the first hall of Nirvana or in the second hall of Nirvana, or in the third, or in the fourth, or fifth, or sixth, or in the seventh hall of Nirvana.” To describe the ineffable joy of Nirvana is impossible. There, the music of the spheres reigns and the soul is enchanted within a state of bliss, which is impossible to describe with words." - From The Revolution of Beelzebub |
| Nirvikalpa-samadhi | (Sanskrit, literally “changeless samadhi”) An ecstasy within the divine abode of the Gods. Originally a term from Vedanta, referring to the highest possible state of consciousness, a state of no-mind, and non-dual union with Brahman. |
| Nous | (Greek "mind, reason, intellect") This is not the concrete, sensual mind that we commonly experience. Nous refers instead to Abstract Mind, the kind of mind of a person such as Buddha, Jesus, or Krishna. Also known as the Fourth State of Consciousness. "Nous is perfect awakened Consciousness. Nous is the state of Turiya, profound perfect interior illumination. Nous is legitimate objective clairvoyance. Nous is intuition. Nous is the world of the divine archetypes. Noetic thought is synthetic, clear, objective, illuminated. Whosoever reaches the heights of Noetic thought totally awakens Consciousness and becomes a Turiya. The lowest part of man is irrational and subjective and is related with the five ordinary senses. The highest part of man is the World of Intuition and objective spiritual Consciousness. In the World of Intuition, the archetypes of all things in nature develop. Only those who have penetrated into the World of objective Intuition, only those who have reached the solemn heights of Noetic thought, are truly awakened and illuminated." - The Perfect Matrimony Philokalia (writings of the Christian Desert Fathers): “It (Nous) is the highest facility in man, through which - provided it is purified - he knows God or the inner essence or principles of created things by means of direct perception. Nous must be carefully distinguished from reason; nous does not formulate abstract concepts or argue them using deductive reasoning; but it understands divine truth by means of immediate experience or intuition. It dwells in the ‘depth of the soul’; it constitutes the innermost aspect of the heart.” |
| Nous Atom | A spiritual atom located in the left ventricle of the heart. This atom is also called the Master Atom and is directly related with the Christ. "As we have already stated in our book entitled “The Perfect Matrimony or The Door to Enter into Initiation, ” the heart of the Sun is constructed like the heart of our human organism. Just as Seven Hierarchs exist in the Sun, who direct the seven cosmic rays, seven brains exist in our heart which belong to the Seven Great Cosmic Hierarchies. The sun has an atomic central nucleus, which is the Atom Nous, and this atom is the dwelling of Brahma within us. This atom is the first vital center which functions in the fetus and also the last atom which stops living in our organism. This atom contains the mind, life, energy and will power of the human being. It has an opal-like luminous aura which irradiates and shines." - From The Revolution of Beelzebub . For more information, read The Dayspring of Youth by M. |
| Nun |
Nun is written with the following letters: Nun, Vav, Nun-Sophit, which mean: the Light above, the Shechinah of the three primary forces hidden within the “Nun,” “the N” descending through “Vav” (spinal medulla) even through the final Nun in order to expand the Infinite Light below in the Ninth Sphere, the center of the Earth. In Yesod, the Solar Forces of Kether, Chokmah, and Binah (their Messiah or Solar-Light-Force), the Heir to the Throne (the Spinal Medulla) are hidden within Nun, the Sperm and the Ovum (the fish) that swims within the Mem, the waters of Yesod, the Ens Seminis. Its Kabbalistic value is 50. |
| Objective | “The modern, revolutionary psychology of the new Age of Aquarius utilizes the terms “objective ” and “subjective” in the following way: A) Objective - Real, spiritual, true, divine, etc. B) Subjective - Vague, incoherent, not precise, illusory, fantastical, absurd.” - The Three Mountains |
| Occult | Howbeit we (Gnostics) speak (Kabbalistic) wisdom among them that are (spiritually) perfect: yet (the wisdom of the mysterious Sephirah Daath that is) not the (materialistic) wisdom of this world, nor of the (intellectual) princes of this world (of Kali Yuga), that come to nought: But we speak the (Kabbalistic) wisdom of God in (the) mystery (of the Sephirah Daath), even the occult wisdom, which God ordained before (the creation of) the world unto our glory: Which none of the (intellectual) princes of this age (of Kali Yuga) knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified (with their filthy fornication) the Lord of (Hod) glory. But as it is written, (the intellectual) Eye hath not seen, nor (the intellectual) ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of (a fornicator) man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him (by means of the transmutation of their sexual waters into the wine of spirituality). But God hath revealed them unto us by his (Holy) Spirit: (that rises throughout the channel of Sushumna of our spinal medulla) for the (Spiritual Atom of the Holy) Spirit (in the Pineal Gland) searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man, save the (energy of the Holy) Spirit of man which is in (the sexual organs of) him? Even so the things of God know no man, but the (Holy) Spirit of God. Now we (are not fanatical believers who babble incoherent words or Mediums or Chanellers of Spiritualism, because we) have received not the spirit of the world of (Klipoth), but the (Holy) Spirit which is of God (in the Stone of Jacob, the Stone of Yesod); that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak (in the language of scientific chastity or Alchemy), not in the words which (the intellectual animal mistakenly called) man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches; comparing spiritual things with (authentic) spiritual (matters). But the natural man (who performs the sexual act as an animal) receives not the things of the (Holy) Spirit of God (because he is a fornicator due to the sexual orgasm): for they are foolishness unto him (because he has his brain and his pineal gland atrophied due to fornication): neither can he know them (the mysteries of God), because they are spiritually discerned (with a Solar Christified Mind). But he that is spiritual (is spiritual because he created a spiritual body through scientific chastity and thus he) judged all things (with his superlative intuition), yet he himself is judged of no (fornicator) man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ (the Solar Mind). - 1 Corinthians 2: 6 -16 |
| Ocelotl | (Nahuatl for “tiger/jaguar,” where the name ocelot originated). Refers to the Order of the Tiger Knights amongst the Aztec initiates. These initiates specialized in Jinn science and are considered as Nahua (see: Nahua). They would enter in to the Jinn state and shape shift into Tigers or Jaguars while pronouncing the sacred mantra “We belong to each other.” See: Tlamatinime. |
| Ojas | (Sanskrit, literally "power or force of life") "The Sanskrit term Ojas means “transmuted sexual energy,” a type of Christic force (read chapter 22). The semen is transmuted by means of Maithuna into subtle vapors, and these in turn convert themselves into energies that bipolarize in order to rise through Ida and Pingala up to the brain. To be converted into Ojas (Christic force) the semen must become “cerebrated.” In order to be charged with Ojas (Christic force), the brain must become “seminized.”” - The Doomed Aryan Race |
| Okidanokh | The primary emanation of the Ain Soph, the Solar Absolute. The energy field origin of all the cosmoses and whose vibration manifests through the Law of Three within all dimensional material manifestations. Okidanokh is the fundamental cause of all cosmic phenomena; it is the Christic substance capable of penetrating all cosmic formations. Kabbalistically, it is the life source of the sacred Triamazikamno or Logoic Trimurti: Kether, Chokmah, Binah. |
| Omecihuatl | (Aztec; Ome, “duality” and Cihuatl, “Lady”) The Lady of Duality. See Ometecuhtli. |
| Omer | The term Omer (an analogous symbol to that of the Scale of Justice) refers to the measure that was used to determine the quantity (one handful) of grain (this refers to the “hand” or will of God - the Iod within “Hei” the Uterus in Yesod) within which the Manna (his Infinite Sexual Force that originates the Second Birth) is contained. “Speak unto the children of Israel (or igneous particles of the Being trapped within the Ego that - by means of sexual transmutation - are coming out of Egypt), and say unto them, When you enter into the land (spinal medulla) which I give unto you, and shall (by means of sexual transmutation) reap the harvest thereof, then you shall bring an Omer of the first fruits (of the tree of Good and Evil) of your harvest unto the priest (Chesed, the Innermost): And he shall wave the “Omer” before Iod-Havah, to be accepted for you: on the dawning after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. - Leviticus 23: 10, 11 “And you shall count unto you from the dawning after the Sabbath (when you start sexual transmutation), from the day that you have brought the "Omer" (transmuted sexual seed offering); seven Sabbaths (Seven Initiations of Fire) shall be complete: Even unto the day after the Seventh Sabbath (Seventh Initiation of Fire) shall you count fifty days (if Nun, the heir to the throne, the Messiah incarnates); and you shall offer a new meat (of light) offering unto Iod-Havah.” - Leviticus 23:15-16
|
| Ometecuhtli | (Aztec; Ome, “duality” and Tecuhtli, “Lord”) The Lord of Duality. This is seen as the Androgynous nature of the Spirit. He is represented as being joined with his spouse Omecihuatl (see entry by that name). Ometecuhtli-Omecihuatl is the Aztec Osiris-Isis, Joseph-Mary, Shiva-Shakti, or Samantabahdra-Samantabahdri. This aspect of the Spirit is seen Kabbalistically within Daath, where divine creativity resides. The conjunction of Ometecuhtli-Omecihuatl is called Ometeotl, the one androgynous spirit.
The dwelling place of Ometeotl is the Omeyocan. The children of Ometecuhtli-Omecihuatl are the four aspects of the Cosmic Christ: Tezcatlipoca, Huitzilopochtli, Quetzalcoatl, and Xipetotec. See Omeyocan, Tezcatlipoca. |
| Ometeotl | See Ometecuhtli |
| Omeyocan | A very elevated Aztec heaven, literally meaning “Place of Duality.” Master Samael states in Aztec Christic Magic: “The Quetzalcoatlian Word makes the Omeyocan fertile, so that life can emerge in the dawn of creation. Unquestionably, only the wind and darkness exist within the Omeyocan before the word can fecundate the chaotic matter. Life waits for the latent instant in order to be awakened to a new activity within Yoalli-Ehecatl, there where the infinite quietude whirls about.” This is related to the mysteries of Daath. |
| Ophanim | (Hebrew) According to Kabbalah, a being related to the sephirah Chokmah, equivalent to the Christian hierarchical level of “Cherubim.” |
| Ophites | (Greek) A Gnostic Fraternity in Egypt and one of the earliest sects of Gnosticism; known as the Brotherhood of the Serpent. It flourished early in the second century and while holding some of the principles of Valentinus had its own occult rites and symbology. A living serpent representing the Krestos-principle (not Jesus the man) was displayed in their mysteries and reverenced as a symbol of wisdom, Sophia. |
| Opotherapy | "In those times, the Atlantean Sacerdotal Medicine discovered what in
this day and age we would scientifically call Human Opotherapy, that
is, the infusion of glandular juices from the Pituitary, Thyroid,
Adrenal glands, etc., to sick and senile organisms." - The Kabbalah of Mayan Mysteries |
| Ordeals |
Tests and challenges given to the consciousness of every aspirant to the Light. "The ordeals of Initiation are extremely severe. The disciple has to follow a perfect, holy and chaste path. Thus, when reaching the Intimate, the human being becomes converted into a Master of Major Mysteries and into a Theurgist." - The Revolution of Beelzebub
“Many esoteric ordeals exist on the initiatic path. It is necessary to pass through the ordeal of the Guardian of the Threshold in the three planes: astral, mental, and causal; it is necessary to pass through the ordeals of fire, air, water, and earth; it is necessary to pass through the ordeal of justice, etc. However, all of those ordeals, as hard and difficult as they might be, become gentle and swift when we compare them with the frightening and tremendous ordeal of the Ninth Sphere (sex).” - Aztec Christic Magic |
| Order in the Work | "As we progress in our Inner Work, we can verify for ourselves an interesting order in the system of elimination. One is astonished when one discovers that there is an order in the Work related to the elimination of the multiple psychic aggregates that personify our errors. What is most interesting about all of this is that such an order in the elimination of defects comes about gradually, and is processed in accordance with the Dialectic of Consciousness." - The Great Rebellion |
| Orichalcum | The Atlanteans had a metal more precious than gold; this was the famous “Orichalcum.” - The Kabbalah of the Mayan Mysteries |
| Ors | Our Solar System. "Our Solar System has thirteen Worlds, which are as follows: Earth, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Vulcan, Persephone and Clarion." |
| Oviparous | (Latin; oviparus; ovum egg + parere to bring forth) Producing young
from eggs; as, an oviparous animal, in which the egg is generally
separated from the animal, and hatched after exclusion. Quoted from Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary |
| Padmasambhava | (or Guru Rinpoche) An Indian Master who along with Shantarakshita and King Trisong Detsen established Tantric Buddhism in Tibet (8th century). He is perhaps most known to westerners in relation to the so-called "Tibetan Book of the Dead." He is widely revered in Tibetan Buddhism, second only to the Buddha Shakyamuni. |
| Pancatattva Ritual | (Sanskrit, alterately spelled "pancatattwa") Panca: “five.” Tattva: “essence; principle.” A Tantric ritual in which the five elements are transmuted. The five M’s are Maithuna (Sexual Magic), Madya (“Wine”), Mamsa (Meat), Matsya (Fish), Mudra (Grain). See The Mystery of the Golden Blossom. |
| Panchakamaguna | (Sanskrit) The Five Objects of Desire, which symbolize the attributes of sensation that hypnotize the senses.
|
| Pantacles | Pantacles are like Mandalas, they describe esoteric truths! |
| Papus | In this path, we will have to live all the twelve hours of which the great sage Apollonius spoke. “Papus,” the black magician, tried to desfigure the twelve hours of Apollonius with teachings of Black Magic, liquidating all the millions of Kabbalistic volumes that drift in the world. We arrived at the conclusion that all Kabbalah is reduced to the twenty-two Major Arcana of the Tarot and four aces, which represent the four elements of Nature. On such a simple thing, scholars have written millions of volumes and theories that would turn anyone “crazy” who had the bad taste of becoming intellectualized with that entire arsenal. The worst of it is that, in questions of Kabbalah, the black magicians took over what they found to disfigure the teaching and lead the world astray. The works of Papus are legitimate Black Magic.- The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Parabrahman | (Sanskrit) (literally, "the highest brahman") "Sattva, Rajas and Tamas were unbalanced; therefore, the Mahamanvantara dawned. The yogi must liberate himself from Sattva, Rajas and Tamas to gain the right to enter into the Absolute. Sattva, Rajas and Tamas will be in perfect equilibrium again at the end of the Mahamanvantara; thus, the universe will sleep again within the profound bosom of the Absolute, within the supreme Parabrahman, the In-nominated." - The Mysteries of Fire: Kundalini Yoga |
| Paracelsus | The Renaissance physician, alchemist and philosopher Paracelsus was born Theophrastus Philippus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim in Einsielden, Switzerland circa 1493. He followed in the footsteps of his father, and became a physician. Paracelus studied medicine at various universities and travelled widely throughout Europe studying, practicing medicine and writing. Appointed city physician and professor at the University of Basel in 1526, he embarked on an ambitious program of lectures and writing. His bold calls for reform of medicine alienated many. Finally, public feeling rose so high against him that a warrant was issued for his arrest and he was forced to flee the city. This pattern of finding a position and patronage through his obvious brilliance and amazing cures followed by alienation and rejection because of his frequent attacks on medical and philosophical orthodoxy continued throughout his life. Nevertheless, he found time to dictate and write many books on medicine, magic, alchemy and occult philosophy. It is said that Paracelsus died in Salzburg on September 24, 1541, but according to the Gnostic Tradition he still lives with the same physical body, having accomplished the Great Work of Alchemy. |
| Paramananda | (Sanskrit) supreme spiritual happiness, "supreme bliss." |
| Paramartha | (Sanskrit, literally "supreme reality, supreme truth" or "absolute existence") This equates to awakened consciousness. |
| Paramarthasatya |
(Sanskrit) Para, “absolute, supreme.” Parama, “that which knows, or the
consciousness.” Artha, “that which is known.” Satya, “existence,
Truth.” In synthesis, “The supreme knowledge of all that exists:
TRUTH.”
1) A being of very high development; an inhabitant of the Absolute. 2) The ultimate truth, as opposed to conventional truth (samvriti-satya) or relative truth of the manifested world. |
| Paramitas | (Sanskrit, "perfections" or literally, "that which has reached the other shore") In Buddhism, the paramitas are six or ten virtuous qualities or states of consciousness and also the path to perfect them. They are (1) charity, or alms-giving (dana); (2) discipline, or observance of precepts (sila); (3) forbearance, or patient resignation (ksanti); (4) energy or exertion (virya); (5) concentration or meditation (dhyana); and (6) wisdom (prajna). Although there are usually said to be six paramitas, sometimes their number is expanded to ten (with the addition of expedients/means, vows/prayer, power, and knowledge/pristine awareness). |
| Paranirvana | (Sanskrit. Tibetan: yongs su mya ngan las 'das) The state of total cessation of all sufferings, disturbing emotions, and their psychological sources. This term is usually used in reference to the passing away of a buddha or practitioner. |
| Paranishpanna | (Sanskrit, alternately parinishpanna, paranishpana, or parinishpana; Tibetan: Yong-Grüb) "Absolute truth," or "Absolute happiness." From "para" which means "beyond" and nishpanna, sometimes translated as "knowledge," "completeness," "perfection" or "happiness." |
| Particular Characteristic Psychological | (also known as the Chief Feature by students of G.I. Gurdjieff) See The Revolution of the Dialectic, chapters 2-4. "Awakening is only possible by destroying the “I,” the ego. We have to recognize with complete clarity that each person has his own Particular Characteristic Psychological Feature (PCPF), which we have spoken about many times before. Certainly, each person has his own particular characteristic psychological feature, this is a fact. Some will have lust as their characteristic feature; others will have hatred; for others it will be covetousness, etc. The feature is the sum of several particular characteristic psychological elements. For each PCPF, a definitive event, a precise circumstance, always occurs. What if a man is lustful? There will always be circumstances of lust in his life accompanied by specific problems. These circumstances are always repeated. We need to know our PCPF if we want to move on to a superior level of the Being and eliminate from within ourselves the undesirable elements which constitute our psychological feature." - from The Revolution of the Dialectic |
| Pass-not Ring | "This most divine plane of the cosmos is named “The Pass Not Ring” in the first volume of The Secret Doctrine by the Master Blavatsky. If we consider the cosmos as a great tree with its roots in the Absolute, then these roots will be the “Pass Not Ring” because no one can pass that plane, not even the greatest Gods of the cosmos can pass beyond that ring." - The Revolution of Beelzebub |
| Path of the Razor's Edge | "The Initiate must travel, with determination, along the Path of the Razor’s Edge. There are terrifying abysses on either side of this difficult road. On the difficult path to the dissolution of the ego, there are complex passages which have their roots precisely in the real path. Obviously, from the Path of the Razor’s Edge multiple paths diverge which lead nowhere. Some of them take us to the abyss and despair. There are paths which can transform us into the majesties of this or that zone of the universe. However, they can never return us to the bosom of the Eternal Universal Cosmic Father. There are fascinating paths of a most holy, ineffable appearance; unfortunately, they can only lead us into the submerged devolution of the infernal worlds. In the work of the dissolution of the “I,” we need to devote ourselves completely to the Innermost Christ. At times problems appear which are difficult to resolve. Suddenly the path is lost in inexplicable labyrinths and we do not know where it continues. Only absolute obedience to the Innermost Christ and the Father who is in secret can, in such instances, wisely guide us. The Path of the Razor’s Edge is full of danger, both inside and out." - The Great Rebellion |
