And I reply:

Hello.

I appreciate you writing out what
most people think is the case with the Matrix films.
Your description accurately conveys what is commonly
given as a "Gnostic" interpretation of that film.

Now, it is important to look deeper and penetrate into
the undercurrent, because it is there that one will
find the corruption. Because remember, no one will
eat rotten food, for it is clear that it is no good.
But the best poisons cannot be tasted or smelled; they
are subtle, and work insidiously to devastate the one
who ingests it. This is equally true of poisonous
ideas.

The best way to destroy an enemy is to use his own
weapons against him. Therefore, the best way to
sabotage Gnosis is to use Gnosis itself.

That is why the overall structure and theme of the
film seems so "Gnostic." This is a conscious effort:
to take Gnostic ideas, structures, and patterns, and
then rework them. How else did the Roman Catholic
Church come to be? By the same method. Little by
little, over centuries, the changes are made.

Just so, The Matrix is a subtle perversion of
essential truths. I do not dispute the themes or
obvious symbols present in the films. However, what I
do question is this:

1. Violence. War and battle is a part of Gnosis; The
Mahabarata must be fought by every Initiate. However,
it is another thing to stimulate the animal mind
through grotesque, extreme and very sensual violence.
This is a crime.

2. Lack of Divinity. God plays no role in these
films. It is all up to the "man." There is no Inner
Being, no respect for the Divine, no humility before
the Creator, no Love or respect for the Superior
Intelligences. (BTW, if Morpheus was the Being, then
he would never lose Faith., But the Morpheus character
(who is the Greek God of Sleep, by the way) does lose
faith.)

3. Lack of Sanctity. There is no need for "Neo" to
destroy his Pride, his Lust, his Vanity, his envy; in
fact, these are encouraged by the film, and he is
driven to use the "courage of a beast" in order to
accomplish his goals. This courage is founded in
Self-will, rather than the will of the Divine. This
is exactly what Samael Aun Weor describes in
Revolution of Beelzebub, where he demonstrates that
the initiations in the black lodge do not require any
moral progress: they only require the courage of the
beast to overcome physical circumstances. This is
what Neo is always doing: using his Self-will. On the
contrary, initiations of the White Lodge always
require supreme repentance of the ego in question,
humility and the death of each self-willed ego. Neo
never demonstrates such qualities, nor does our
society encourage them. Things are quite the opposite
these days.

4. Desire for Sensation. All of the films display a
running theme of sensation as a measure of progress or
success, but none more vividly than the 3rd. In this
film, the inhabitants of "Zion" have a giant orgy
before the "big battle." This is supposed to be the
symbol of the Celestial Jerusalem! If this does not
demonstrate the degenerated nature of these films,
then I do not know what else could be more clear.
Likewise, in the same film, one of Neo's "opponents"
uses desire for sensation to enslave others (the cake
scene). This is a clear manipulation on the part of
the filmmakers, who are demonstrating the powers of
black magic to manipulate others. No White Magician
would ever show how to do such a thing.

5. Tantrism. The root postulate of black tantra is
that the orgasm is a means to Realization. This film
supports that claim, and it is shown quite clearly in
the 3rd film.

And if this does not convince you, then how could this
gentleman make a positive, truly Gnostic movie:

"As you may know Larry Wachowski (one of the directors
of the Matrix trilogy) is probably transsexual (and
probably plans to undergo a transgender operation).
Thus the preference for leather and latex (in the
movies). And thus the story about domination and
control. In fact 'Matrix' could be a cousin word of
'Latex', 'Dominatrix' and 'TransX'.

"Here is what Jake Miller has to say (Jake Miller is a
female-to-male transsexual (after a sex-change), and a
companion of Larry Wachowski at the Matrix 1 premiere
in Los Angeles):

"Jake Miller: "[Larry Wachowski] is obsessed with
Marilyn Monroe and likes to wear a blonde wig, pink
dresses and stiletto heels prior to being punished by
his mistress and acting as her slave.... [Larry] has
been cross-dressing for years and everybody knows
it... When Larry walked down the red carpet... he was
probably wearing a bra and panties under his suit"

"On the Matrix set, Larry was visited (for weeks) by
Karin Winslow (aka Ilsa Strix, wrongly called Ilsa
Stix). The Mirror (a British tabloid) calls her a
"well-known sado-masochistic dominatrix". Karin
Winslow seems to have become the girl-friend of Larry
Wachowski (who wants to be called Lana Wachowski?)."

"He who has an ear to hear, let him hear..."

I have spent enough time on this. I know that there
are plenty of people who are too much in love with
these movies to see through them, but perhaps someone
will take their DVD and throw it away for the trash
that it is.

--------------------
Best regards.

Remember:
"Gnosis is lived upon facts,
withers away in abstractions,
and is difficult to find even in the noblest of thoughts."

Thank you Mr. Crow.

You make some very good points(one or two of which I would like to address later).

I too was fooled by the apparent "deep knowledge" of this movie("Gnostic" symbolism, The (Grand)Architect, The Merovingian, etc. etc.).

Now I'm beginning to see it for what it really is.

That whole sex-change thing sounds familiar as well; just didn't know if it's true.

Anyhow, here is some relevant info from the following thread:

QUOTE(Isabel @ Dec 2 2004, 01:42 PM)
It is not that Samael "didn't like to go to the movies".  Actually, if you read his recommendation on this subject, he learned through direct experience that the movie theaters have a black dragon within the actual physical place (not including the impressions from the movie itself).  Therefore, when one goes, one ALWAYS becomes infected to a greater or lesser degree with these black diseases, larvae etc.  If you are beginning, and have not experienced this yet, that is okay, but you should not give such advice.  We should not take the liberty to go around pointing out the Master Samael's mistakes if we are not totally sure...
Yes, there is larvae and perverted images in many places, but the fact is that the theaters are dens of black magic: physically and internally.
The black lodge exists inside and outside of our own degenerated psyches.  When we make contact with such tenebruous influences, it stimulates the tenebruous elements within our psyche.  And, larvaes suck and steal your Hydrogen Si12, even if you are not fornicating.

It is one thing to go swimming in a natural lake.
It is another thing to go and grab a handful of leeches and put them in your pants!

By the way, "The Matrix" is quite interesting from the point of view of the occultist.  But, if you investigate that movie internally, you will find that it is symbolic of the initiation of a "NEOphyte" into the black lodge!  Don't believe me, investigate internally!

The Matrix trinity is indeed steeped in esoteric symbolism. ohmy.gif

And you may be right Isabel.  A certain FreeMason said that he saw some sort of magazine, which announced the Wachowski Bros. initiation into the O.T.O. (go figure rolleyes.gif ).

Though it's possible that this is mere hearsay...

Also, if I'm not mistaken, one of the diesel-trucks in The Matrix 2 says "OTO" right on it somewhere.

And we know what the O.T.O. is all about these days.....

"Notice that it seems odd to a child to talk about getting married. It is becasue he still does not have the maturity to appriciate or debate on the matter that you are bringing up. The same happens with men who still lack spiritual matirity, when you talk to them about certain topics. If you talk to them about the doctrine of christification and redemption, they will treat you and see you as if you were demented....."

---Technique for Dissolving the "I"

Many come to know Samael thru other teachings/schools. It seems to me not to condemn anyone for what they watch or how they interpert certain "movies". For the work one does is for our soul and if we are sincere enough our being will guide us to the right path. There are several paths to follow that will lead to the absolute, in the end all souls get absorbed with the absolute.
Yes the Matrix is not the perfect gnostic movie, but it can lead many to true gnosis, soley by "opening their minds" to the illusionary world we all live in, and seek out the true answers themselves. We are still living in the most degenterated age of humanity, and any work on one self will not be easy, but we all need to start somewhere, and if watching the Matrix awakens your curiosity and brings you to true Gnosis, them IMHO it might have been worth it..

" The Gnostic must not be a fanatic. We must study everything to reject the useless and accept the useful. Gnosis is not against any religion, scholl or sect. We have fought for the moral purification of many religions, schools, orders, and sects. We have never been against any religion school or sect. We know that humanity is divided into groups and that each group needs its own system of particular instruction. All religions schools, orders, and sects are precious pearls that are strung on the golden thread of divinity...... Truely all religions are ineffable and divine. All religions, schools orders and sects are necessary"

--Dream Yoga Ch 10
(Logos Mantram Theurgy)

Again, what we read and watch, we must take the usefull and get rid of the useless. Each one is on a diffrent level of being, what seemed useful to us a few months/years ago is totally useless today. Even the sacred writing will be useless at one point.

Very humbly yours

Namaste

An interesting thread. Would it be more practical to discuss the above? Dion Fortune also alludes to this.

How does this open their minds? The truth of the matter is that it fascinates their minds. James already gave the reasons.

Why the fascination for these movies?

Again, like in other threads, I emphasize that these films may present Gnosic ideas, but hardly is the content Gnostic.

As I see it, the only good thing that can come from these films, is that they may inspire the person who sees them to search for spirituality, and perhaps find gnosis.

The one who's Being is leading them back to the path will be able to receive many impressions that remind him/her of their purpose.
These impressions or influences of the initiatic principles are not mechanical, they are like arrows that are shot at a target, from the Inner Being to His child. Obviously there is wind, distance and our minds are moving targets-but the quiver of the Monad that is pushing the essence is always full of arrows.
A word spoken by a stranger, a sound, a feeling all can be the influences of subtle forces at work.

Yet, for one to make such a movie, the vast majority of individuals in this humanity are not receptive to the influences of the superior worlds. Instead, they like violence, sex, and mind control.

This movie, the Matrix, made a GRAVE ERROR when likening the Architect to the "Guardian of the Threshold"! That is pure black magic working in the collective mind of the hypnotised individuals who have watched this movie.

When watching this movie, children have the inclination to become more powerful, stronger, better, more in control... But they don't worry about their own egos and definitely don't consider submitting to the Intimate.

Behind this movie is the black lodge, plain and simple. May the Gnostic students of the world be able to transform impressions and always be inspired to return to the Intimate on any occasion of life.
Awakening through mind and not the consciousness is black magic.
Believing that the Grand Architect of the universe is the Guardian of the Threshold is black magic. Don't believe me, read "The Revolution of Beelzebub".
Believing that you must submit yourself to a vampiric, seductive witch, kissing her in front of your dear spouse, as an initiation on the path is BLACK MAGIC (and totally disgusting)!
This movie is powerful in the mental plane, you know that. You also know that the most power black magicians are in the mental plane.
This movie is truly ANTI GNOSTIC.

The Matrix inspired me to open my mind and eventually led me to Gnosis.

Sure there is violence. But what hollywood film doesn't have violence?

There is no acknolwledgment of God. So what?

This is not a Gnostic film, this is a hollywood film.

If it was a film with no violance, no sex, no ego and talked about God no-one would watch it.

Instead it has inspired millions of people to accept the teachings that Gnosis promotes and (hopefully) filter out all of the hollywood junk that is in it.

Sahsa is the exact type of person I was refering to in my post.
I am no big fan of the Matrix or any other movie(s), but I can see how those types of themes can make "NEOphytes" question their own reality, and hence look for answers themselves

that is all...

I agree, the Matrix is a controversial, to say the least, film from the Gnostic point of view. There are some "positive" things, for example, I was struck by a picture of a baby being plugged in to the Matrix - with narrative by Morpheus - "watch them liquify the dead so they could be fed intravenously to the living" - this is a picture of egos ("the dead") re-attaching to a newly born child! (the Return).

Besides the other Gnostic elements, the movie is a good philosophical trainer specifically to meditate on Buddhist concept of mind-only. For example the part where Morpheus asks Neo "Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from the dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?"

The question, of course, should be re-phrased to "what if you were able to wake from the dream..."

Instead it has inspired millions of people to accept the teachings that Gnosis promotes and (hopefully) filter out all of the hollywood junk that is in it.

Millions huh? Where are these millions that have accepted Samael's doctrine due to the influence of this film? Millions? Most Gnostic students don't even know how to transform impressions well... So how are lay people supposed to filter the Hollywood garbage and subtle psychological influences from the black magicians in the mental plane?

The initiations of the black lodge and their process of awakening is very similar to that of the White Lodge. Master Samael explains this in "The Revolution of Beelzebub". He is very clear about this and the distinction, discernment and definition that a Gnostic student must make in order to avoid subtle problems.
Do as you will, in heaven or in hell. Just remember that we all must answer for our deeds in the end.

I just came across something quite interesting.

Apparently one of the ships in The Matrix is called "Gnosis".

Believing that you must submit yourself to a vampiric, seductive witch, kissing her in front of your dear spouse, as an initiation on the path is BLACK MAGIC (and totally disgusting)!...
This movie is truly ANTI GNOSTIC.

Quite right, the evidence for this can be clearly seen.

No sex in the matrix? In the second film they clearly show neo and trinity not only having sex but climaxing, in fact to my knowledge this is one of the only times a film has been so pointed with that matter.

The very concept of neo being 'the one' and they way this is portrayed in all three films is highly egoic and appeals to some rather deep desires within us.

The film has taken fundamental concepts and bound them to base, egoic ideas.
Certainly this film might provoke people into considering such matters for the first time, however it would be alot of work to remove the associative bonds the film has made between some rather harmful impressions & ideas about the Path to liberation - let alone realise that they are even there.

Too many times we have been so very frustrated when discussing 'esoteric ideas' (pre-Gnosis) only to recieve the reply "Oh, you've been watching too much of the matrix".

Also, samanera made reference to a group called 'O.T.O'...who are they?

Thanks

QUOTE(James Crow @ Feb 26 2005, 07:21 AM)
3. Lack of Sanctity.  There is no need for "Neo" to
destroy his Pride, his Lust, his Vanity, his envy; in
fact, these are encouraged by the film, and he is
driven to use the "courage of a beast" in order to
accomplish his goals.  This courage is founded in
Self-will, rather than the will of the Divine.

...

4. Desire for Sensation.  All of the films display a
running theme of sensation as a measure of progress or
success, but none more vividly than the 3rd.  In this
film, the inhabitants of "Zion" have a giant orgy
before the "big battle."

"pay no attention to these hypocrites, Neo. To deny our own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human."

Just thought of this phrase to support the idea that the movie is on the dark side...

Apparently the Ordo Templi Orientis in it's beginnings, was an Esoteric Order very similiar to authentic Ancient Gnosticism.

Later on, Aleister Crowley became the head of this Order.

Although I'm not sure if it began to degenerate even before that(as to make it even possible for A. Crowley to take it over?)

I guess it depends who Neo is. If Neo is the One, then he is not many (outside relativity), which means his impulses can only come from his Being. This is seeing Neo as an aspect of the Being.
