| Aaron |
(Hebrew אהרון) In the books of Moses, the brother of Moses. Since Moses (משה) is a symbol of the Causal Body (the sephirah Tiphereth) which is related to the pineal gland, Aaron his brother represents the Mental Body (the sephirah Netzach), which is related to the brain. Aaron is the head of the tribe of Levi, which is related to the priesthood (magi), and the Kabbalistic triangle of the priesthood or magi-c: Netzach, Hod, Yesod. |
| Aaron's Rod |
A Biblical symbol of the raised serpent of fire (see Numbers 21) also called Kundalini (Sanskrit). |
| Abaddon |
(Hebrew אבדון) destruction. "Sheol (hell) and Abaddon are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied." - Proverbs 27:20 "And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon." - Revelation 9:11 From The Theosophical Glossary: "[from the verbal root 'abad to perish, be cut off] Destruction, abyss; the region of the dead, synonym of She'ol in the Old Testament. Equivalent to the Greek apollyon (destruction, laying waste -- Rev 9:11). Thus Abaddon, Apollyon, Hades, and Orcus all signify the underworld -- the kama-loka or region of disintegrating "shells," human or other." |
| Abba |
(Hebrew אב, spelled aleph-beth; “father”) The masculine sexual power of (the Holy Spirit) Binah (understanding), is the Father of Shechinah (feminine Hebrew word that means “the dwelling of the presence of God" - Chesed - Mercy), Gedulah is fecundated by the Holy Spirit Binah (Jehovah Elohim) within the womb of Aima Elohim. He controls the creation of the lower Sephiroth by means of Daath. Thereafter, he may impregnate the womb of Aima Elohim in order for Chokmah (as the Son of Man, Christ) to be born within the Bodhisattva. |
| Abel |
(Hebrew הבל Hei, Beth, Lamed, pronounced "ha-bel") Literally, nonsense, futility, idleness, vapor, breath, vanity, to waste life on vain things. One of the sons of Adam and Eve. "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain [Kayin], and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel [Habel]. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground." - Genesis 4:1-2 הבל הבלים אמר קהלת הבל הבלים הכל הבל - "Abel of abel, saith the Preacher, abel of abels; all [is] abel (futility)." - Ecc 1:2 |
| Aberamentho |
The sacred name of the great Being who sent his Human Soul to the Earth two thousand years ago and came to be known as Jesus. "Jesus, -- that is Aberamentho, -- said..." - The Pistis Sophia |
| Abhayan |
(Sanskrit; a “without,” bhaya “fear”) 1. Fearless. 2. One who does not produce fear in others. |
| Abraham |
(Hebrew אברהם) The progenitor of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. From Semitic roots, Abraham means “the divine Father is exalted”: from אב Ab, father; and רהם ram, raham, exalted. "Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram [אברם], but thy name shall be Abraham [אברהם]; for a father [אב] of many nations have I made thee." - Genesis 17:5 In Kabbalah, Abraham represents the sephirah Chesed, our Innermost. "When Abraham appeared, as he is the secret of Chesed..." - Zohar "For it is written, that Abraham (Abba, the Father, Iod in Yesod) had two sons, the one by a bondmaid (the fallen Eve-Venus, the lunar serpent Od, Ida = Agar the lunar female force that instinctively procreates in Egypt, Matzarim, the World of Malkuth, Assiah), the other by a freewoman (Zain, Urania-Venus, Sa-Ra the Female Adept from Nirvana, the Mother of Isaac, the Son of Man in Daath). "But he who was of the bondwoman was born (in Malkuth) after (the blood of) the flesh; but he (the Bodhichitta within the Bodhisattva) of the freewoman was by (sexual transmutation, and this is the) promise (of Shaddai-El-Chai, the Holy Spirit). Which things (women) are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the Mount Sinai, which genders to bondage, which is Agar (Egypt, Matzarim, Assiah). For this Agar (Egypt, Matzarim, Assiah) is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to (the terrestrial) Jerusalem which now is (was and will be Malkuth, Egypt, Matzarim, Assiah), and is in bondage with her children (within the wheel of evolution and devolution in Samsara). But (the Heavenly) Jerusalem which is above (the Sephirah Malkuth, Egypt, Matzarim, Assiah) is free, which is the mother of us all (in Yesod the Fourth Dimension). For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bear not; break forth and cry, thou that travails not: for the desolate (Eve-Venus, the fallen lunar force in Malkuth) has many more children than she (Urania-Venus, the creative sexual force that rises to the Pineal Gland) which has a husband (the Holy Spirit). Now we, (Gnostic) brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of (Shaddai-El-Chai, the Holy Spirit through sexual transmutation, and this is the) promise. But as then he (the fornicator) that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born (through sexual transmutation) after the (Holy) Spirit (the sexual creative force of Shaddai-El-Chai), even so it is now. "Nevertheless what says the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son (into Malkuth, the Wheel of Samsara): for the son (the soul dressed with lunar protoplasmic bodies) of the bondwoman (Eve-Venus, the fallen lunar force in Malkuth) shall not be heir with the son (the soul dressed with solar bodies) of the freewoman. So then, (Gnostic) brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman (Eve-Venus, the fallen lunar force in Malkuth), but of the free (sexual forces of SA and RA, which become the Divine Princess Kundalini that rises victoriously to the brain)." - Galatians 4: 22-31 |
| Abraxas |
or Abrasax (Gnostic, from the Greek Αβραξας) From The Theosophical Glossary: "Mystical term used by the Gnostics to indicate the supreme entity of our cosmic hierarchy or its manifestation in the human being which they called the Christos. Abraxas has the value of 365, based on numerical equivalents of the Greek alphabet. Because 365 represents the cycle of one revolution of our planet around the sun, they held that in Abraxas were mystically contained the full number of families of entities composing a hierarchy. These entities received from their supreme illuminator, Abraxas, the streams of life and inspiration governing their existence. Thus in a sense Abraxas is the cosmic Oversoul, the creative or Third Logos, Brahma. The Basilidean Gnostics [see: Basilides] taught that from this supreme God was created nous (mind). Abraxas also was identified with the Hebrew 'Adonai, the Egyptian Horus, and the Hindu Prajapati. Gnostic amulets known as Abraxas gems depicted the god as a pantheos (all-god), with the head of a cock, herald of the sun, representing foresight and vigilance; a human body clothed in armor, suggestive of guardian power; legs in the form of sacred asps. In his right hand is a scourge, emblem of authority; on his left arm a shield emblazoned with a word of power. This pantheos is invariably inscribed with his proper name IAO and his epithets Abraxas and Sabaoth, and often accompanied with invocations such as SEMES EILAM, the eternal sun (Gnostics and Their Remains 246), which Blavatsky equates with "the central spiritual sun" of the Qabbalists (SD 2:214). Though written in Greek characters, the words SEMES EILAM ABRASAX are probably Semitic in origin: shemesh sun; `olam secret, occult, hid, eternity, world; Abrasax Abraxas. Hence in combination the phrase may be rendered "the eternal sun Abraxax." "Remember, beloved devotee, the double tail of the serpent that forms the legs of the solar rooster of Abraxas. The entire process of the Great Work consists of releasing oneself from the enchanted rings of the tempting serpent..." - Samael Aun Weor, The Aquarian Message |
| Absolute |
Abstract space; that which is without attributes or limitations. Also known as sunyata, void, emptiness, Parabrahman, Adi-buddha, and many other names. The Absolute has three aspects: the Ain, the Ain Soph, and the Ain Soph Aur. "The Absolute is the Being of all Beings. The Absolute is that which Is, which always has Been, and which always will Be. The Absolute is expressed as Absolute Abstract Movement and Repose. The Absolute is the cause of Spirit and of Matter, but It is neither Spirit nor Matter. The Absolute is beyond the mind; the mind cannot understand It. Therefore, we have to intuitively understand Its nature." - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot and Kabbalah "In the Absolute we go beyond karma and the gods, beyond the law. The mind and the individual consciousness are only good for mortifying our lives. In the Absolute we do not have an individual mind or individual consciousness; there, we are the unconditioned, free and absolutely happy Being. The Absolute is life free in its movement, without conditions, limitless, without the mortifying fear of the law, life beyond spirit and matter, beyond karma and suffering, beyond thought, word and action, beyond silence and sound, beyond forms." - Samael Aun Weor, The Major Mysteries |
| Abyss |

| Adam |
(Hebrew [אדם] aleph, daleth, mem) "The first." "We learned that man has names in different stages, FOR HE IS CALLED Adam (man), Gever (male man), Enosh (human), Ish (person). The greatest is Adam, as written, "So Elohim created man (Heb. adam) in His own image" (Beresheet 1:27), and, "for in the image of Elohim made He man (Heb. adam)" (Beresheet 9:6), instead of using Gever, Enosh or Ish. Rabbi Yehuda said, in that case, it is written, "If any man (Heb. adam) of you bring an offering to Hashem" (Vayikra 1:2). Who needs to bring an offering? Only whoever sins WHO IS OF A LESSER LEVEL." - Zohar 15:22:106 "Every spirit [ruach] is called Adam [man], which means that only the aspect of the light of the spirit that is enclothed within the body is called Adam [man]. So the body of the spirit of the holy side is only a covering; in other words, the spirit is the actual essence of man and the body is only its covering. But on the other side, the opposite applies. This is why it is written: "you have clothed me with skin and flesh..." (Iyov 10:11). The flesh of man is only a garment covering the essence of man, which is the spirit [ruach]. Everywhere it is written the flesh of man, it hints that the essence of man [Adam] is inside. The flesh is only a vestment for man, a body for him, but the essence of man [Adam] is the aspect of his spirit [ruach]." - Zohar 1A:10:120 Genesis 1:26: "And Elohim said; Let us make Adam in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion:
|
| Adam and Eve |
A symbol with many levels of meaning. These are only a few of them: 1) Physical: Adam represents the brain and Eve represents the sexual organs 2) Ethereal: Adam and Eve symbolize the two canals that entwine around the spinal column. |
| Adam Kadmon |
(Hebrew) This term has many applications, including the first
manifestation of the Abstract Space; The Archetypal Man; Humanity; The
Heavenly Man, not fallen into sin. |
| Adam-Solus |
The Hebrew word Adam united to the Latin word Solus represents the Polar First Root Race who possessed a pure Androgynous-Physical-Spiritual existence. From them emerged the Second Root Race: the Hyperboreans, who expressed the Twin Souls, Adam-Eve or Iod-Havah, or pure Androgynous-Physical-Psychic existence. The Hyperboreans (by means of physical psychological transformation) originated the Lemurian Hermaphrodite Third Root Race, who when dividing themselves into opposite sexes (event symbolized in the Bible by the allegory in which the Inner Iod-Havah physically separates herself Eve “Havah” from his self “Iod” Adam) who by means of their physical fall divided their consciousness into Cain (the consciousness bottled up into Evil - the Mind) and Abel (the innocence of the Soul). The innocence of Abel died by the evilness of Cain, who by means of regeneration produced the Atlantean Fourth Root Race, Seth-Enos. The Atlanteans (by means of successive transformations) originated Noah, the Vaisvasvata Manu (the son of the Hyperborean Surya, “the Sun”), the forefather of the post-diluvium race, the Aryan Root Race. The Fourth and the Fifth (the present Aryan Root Race) are the outcome of the tasting of the fruit of the Tree of Good and Evil (orgasm). |
| Adamah |
(Hebrew אדמה) “ground, earth.” Genesis 2:7 says, “God [Adonay Elohim] formed man [Adam אדמ] out of dust of the ground [Adamah אדמה], and breathed into his nostrils a breath of life. Man [Adam אדמ] became a living creature." The Hebrew word for ground or earth, Adamah is related to Adam, the Hebrew word for man. Both words are also cognate to adom, meaning red, and dam meaning blood. "The substance in itself, the famous Iliaster that reposes within the profound darkness of the abyss or bottomless space during the great cosmic night, it is indestructible. This is unknown to the modern scientists. The atoms proffer many surprises that the men of science, nuclear physicists not even remotely suspect. The atoms carry within their interior that which the Hebrews call "Igneous Particles", "Hashim" or "Igneous Souls". These Igneous souls are formidable. The atoms cannot process themselves within the living constitution of matter without these Igneous Souls. Therefore, indeed, no one truly knows the power, for instance, of a few grains of dust. We can be sure that nobody knows the power which is enclosed or what it is capable of doing. The Hashim or Igneous Souls are enclosed within each atom (of Adamah 'the dust of the ground').The great Magicians of the east (Alchemists) know how to work with these igneous particles of the atoms, and in any situation, the atoms are impelled by these igneous particles." - Samael Aun Weor, The Aquarian Message |
| Adept |
(Latin) adeptus, "He who has obtained." In occultism, one who has reached the stage of Initiation and become a Master in the science of esotericism. Gnosis describes three degrees of Adept:
|
| Adhyatmic |

| Adi parashakti |
(Sanskrit, literally "eternal, limitless power") A name for the Divine Mother, the source of everything that exists. |
| Adi-Buddha |
(Sanskrit. In Tibetan, Dang-po'i sangs-rgyas) From Vajrayana Buddhism; also known as Samantabhadra/Samantabhadri or Vajradhara. Adi-Buddha, Adhi-buddha, or Adibuddha is the "Primordial Buddha," or origin of all the Buddhas. Adi-Buddha is a self-emanating, self-originating Buddha, present before anything else existed. "The Thirteenth Aeon is Ain, Sat, the Seity. Beyond the Thirteenth Aeon is the Cosmic Common Eternal Father, and Adi-Buddha, who is the Buddha of our individual Buddha. Adhi-Buddha is the Father of our Father, but He never comes into manifestation, because He is the Unknowable Divinity. Only at the end of the Mahamanvantara, after having integrated ourselves with our Father who is in secret, do we then integrate ourselves with Adhi-Buddha. This integration with Adhi-Buddha is performed in the Mahapralaya, in the Cosmic Night and within the bosom of the Absolute Abstract Space." - Samael Aun Weor, The Gnostic Bible: The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Aditi |
(Sanskrit) The Vedic name for Mulaprakriti, the abstract aspect of Parabrahman, though both are unmanifested and unknowable. In the Vedas, Aditi is the indivisible conscious-force and ananda of the Supreme; the Mother; the infinite Mother of the gods; supreme Nature or infinite Consciousness. |
| Adonai |
(Hebrew אדני) Lord or master. |
| Adultery |
comes through Middle English from the Old French adultere, in turn from Latin adulterium from Latin adulter, "adulterer," related to the verb adulterāre, adulterāt- which means "to pollute." "What do we understand by adulterer? When a man has sexual contact with another person that does not belong to him. When a man takes a woman and abandoned the one he already has, he is an adulterer. Even more when he takes this woman just to transmute, He still is an adulterer. The man is charged with a type of energy from his wife and when he enters in sexual contact with another woman that isn’t his wife. These two equal energies are destroyed, an electrical shock comes afterwards and a cable is burned. Which? The fine thread that exist within the spinal column, through which the sulfur arises. When this thread is burned, the alchemist loses all degrees and fails in the great work. The work is very delicate. This is why is written in the book of Revelation of Saint John that neither the fornicator nor adulterer will enter into the New Jerusalem." - Samael Aun Weor, from the lecture "Harvest of the Sun" |
| Adytum |
or adyton (Greek: Άδυτον) or adytum (Latin). The Holy of Holies of any temple. A name for the secret and sacred precincts or the inner chamber, into which no profane could enter; corresponds to the sanctuary of the altars of the Christian churches. |

| Aeon |
(Greek αιών aion) Literally, "a duration of time." "An interval denoting time." – Theodoret (A.D. 300-400) In Gnosticism, the Greek term aion refers to a class of being. It can also refer to (sometimes simultaneously):
|
| Age of Aquarius |
On February 4, 1962, when the Age of Aquarius arrived, humanity entered into a very new situation. With the new celestial influence we saw the arrival of a huge shift in society: mass rebellion against the old ways, sexual experimentation, giant social earthquakes shaking up all the old traditions. We also saw the arrival in the West of a strong spiritual longing, and deep thirst for true, authentic spiritual experience. These two elements: 1) rebellion to tradition and 2) thirst for spiritual knowledge are a direct effect of the influence of Aquarius, the most revolutionary sign of the zodiac. Aquarius is the Water Carrier, whose occult significance is Knowledge, the bringer of Knowledge. With the new age came a sudden revealing of all the hidden knowledge. The doors to the mysteries were thrown open so that humanity can save itself from itself. Of course, the Black Lodge, ever-eager to mislead humanity, has produced so much false spirituality and so many false schools that it is very difficult to find the real and genuine Path. |
| Age of Maitreya |
A Buddhist term referring to the new Aquarian Era, which began in 1964. "The Age of Maitreya is the age of association and confraternity among all human beings." - Samael Aun Weor, Kundalini Yoga: The Mysteries of the Fire |
| Age of Pisces |
The previous cosmic age or era, in which humanity was sunk into deep spiritual darkness. "The Age of Pisces was conservative, regressive, and retarded." - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot and Kabbalah "The Age of Pisces should not have been a failure as it really was. The causa causorum of the Piscine failure was due to certain tenebrous elements who betrayed Gnosis and preached certain Agnostic or Anti-Gnostic Doctrines, underestimating the Fish, discarding the religious wisdom and sinking humanity into materialism." - Samael Aun Weor, The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |
| Aggregates |
(Sanskrit skandha, Tibetan pungpo nga) Literally “group, pile, aggregate, heap.” A general term of Buddhist philosophy describing the basic faculties of a sentient being or “personality.” 1. Corporeality or form (rupa) 2. Sensation (vedana) 3. Perception (samjana) 4. Mental Formations (samskara) 5. Consciousness (vijnana) Each aggregate is composed of a combination of factors and parts, which implies that it does not have independent existence. This is the basis for the Buddhist argument that there is no independently existing self. The Skandhas relate to five lower bodies or sephiroth. 1. Physical Body (Malkuth) 2. Ethereal Body (Yesod; made of four ethers and vibrating with Tattvic energy) 3. Lunar Astral/Emotional Body (Hod): the body of desires 4. Lunar Mental Body (Netzach) 5. Essence or Consciousness (Tiphereth) It is said in Buddhism that our suffering comes from the attachments and cravings that reside within the skandhas, or in other words, the egos live within the psyche of the terrestrial man. The bodies of the soul (skandhas) must be cleaned and purified through alchemical birth and psychological death. This work is done by the Cosmic Christ within the Bodhisattva, as clearly symbolized in the Prajnaparamita Sutra:
In Gnosis, the term aggregates is usually used in reference to impermanent and inhuman psychological "I's" ("egos" or defects) that fill the lower levels of consciousness and trap the psyche in suffering. Aggregates are psychological elements created by means of desire. Each aggregate traps a certain percentage of consciousness, which when freed through the destruction of the aggregate, results in the awakening of consciousness in a positive manner. In synthesis, a psychic aggregate is a positive or negative value that is the source of suffering. See also ego, defect, "I." |
| Agharti |
"The Kingdom of Agharti is found in the subterranean caverns of the Earth. The Earth is hollow and the network of caverns constitute Agharti. The Genie of the Earth (Melchisedec) lives in Agharti with a group of survivors from Lemuria and Atlantis. The Goros, powerful Lords of life and death work with Melchisedec. The whole ancient Wisdom of the centuries has been recorded on Stone within the Kingdom of Agharti."- Samael Aun Weor, The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| AGLA |

| Ahamkara |
(Sanskrit, also ahankara) "The conception of "I," self-consciousness or self-identity; the "I," the egotistical and mayavic principle in man, due to our ignorance which seperates our "I" from the Universal One-self Personality, egoism." - from the Theosophical Glossary. Ahamsara is then the dissolution of the "I"... "To truly eliminate the Ahamkara Bhava, the egoic condition from our consciousness, would be absolutely impossible if we commit the crime of forgetting our own Divine Mother Kundalini." - Samael Aun Weor, The Gnostic Magic of the Runes |
| Ahamsara |
"Ahamsara, the karmic remnants of the Gods, are precisely those phantom-like “I’s.” - The Esoteric Course of Kabbalah |
| Ahi |
(or Ah-hi; Sanskrit) In ancient literature, Ahi can have many meanings depending upon usage: a snake, the serpent of the sky, the demon Vritra, a cloud, water, the sun, a traveller, the navel, lead, or (in arithmetic) the number eight. In Theosophy, the term Ah-hi is defined as “the serpents or dragons of wisdom,” a reference to realized Beings. In the Germanic Eddas, the Dragon is called Ahti. |
| Aima |
(Hebrew, אימא ; אם “mother”) A Kabbalistic name of the Divine Feminine or Goddess. "This is Binah, which is called 'the fiftieth year,' and also called "Ima." - The Zohar An unfoldment of Ruach Ha Kadosh (the Holy Spirit) Binah (understanding). Aima is the Mother of Shechinah (feminine Hebrew word that means “the dwelling of the presence of God” - Chesed - Mercy), Gedulah is conceived by Aima Elohim when fecundated by the Holy Spirit Binah (Jehovah Elohim). She creates the lower Sephiroth by means of the Initiations of Chesed. Thereafter, she may conceive in her womb Chokmah (as the Son of Man, Christ). In Greek “Aima” means blood either in humans or rational or irrational animals, it is also metaphorically referred to as juice of grapes, or specifically to the blood of Christ. |
| Ain |
(Hebrew אין) The first aspect of the primordial Absolute or Emptiness. "AIN is the same as SAT in Sanskrit, in other words, the Unmanifested Absolute." - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot and Kabbalah "The Thirteenth Aeon, which is beyond the Twelve Gates, is Ain, Sat, the Unmanifested One. Knocking on the Thirteenth Gate is equivalent to entering the bosom of the Cosmic Common Eternal Father, whose Hebraic name is Aelohim." - Samael Aun Weor, The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Ain Soph |
(Hebrew אין סוף) Alternatively Ein Sof or Ayn Sof. "AIN SOPH is the second aspect (of the Absolute); it is where a certain manifestation already exists... A divine Ray exists within the human being. That Ray wants to return back into its own Star that has always smiled upon it. The Star that guides our interior is a super divine Atom from the Abstract Absolute Space. The Kabbalistic name of that Atom is the sacred Ain Soph." - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Ain Soph Aur |
(Hebrew) The third aspect of the primordial Absolute or Emptiness. "Each Universe in infinite space possesses its own central Sun, and the addition of all of those Spiritual Suns constitutes the AIN SOPH AUR, the Protocosmos, the Solar Absolute." - Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Ain Soph Paranishpanna |
"We must make a specific differentiation between the Ain Soph and the Ain Soph Paranishpanna: In the Ain Soph, interior Self-realization does not exist, but in the Ain Soph Paranishpanna, interior Self-realization does exist." - Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Ajna Chakra |
(Sanskrit) The Pituitary Chakra that is connected to the Pituitary Gland of the physical body. It is recognized in the astral body as a lotus with two petals. A developed Ajna Chakra enables Clairvoyance. Also called the agni or agniya (fiery) chakra. |
| Akasha |
(Sanskrit) Literally, "space." From akash, "to be visible, appear, shine, be brilliant." "A subtle agent that penetrates and permeates the whole space." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony The most subtle level of matter. The solar light comes to earth and everything on earth transforms that light. Prana is the light from the Absolute. When it passes through the Heptaparaparshinokh it becomes the Akasha. Akasha is further modified into the tattvas and the elements. Akasha is the name of the first tattva, the primordial substance that inundates the entire space; all the other tattva (Fire-Tejas, Air-Vayu, Water-Apas and Earth-Prithvi) are modifications of these cosmic waters, all of them live and work within Akasha. All forms, thoughts, dreams and ideas of the universe live in Akasha. There is no living thing in the universe that can exist without Akasha or multiply its species without it. Akasha is the substance from which every other substance emerges; Akasha is that which every other tattva emerges from; Akasha is where everything is in potency, and Akasha is where everything is in activity. Thus, Akasa appears in various positions. Wherever there is any room for any substance, there is Akasha. |
| Akashic Records |
A record of memory of the earth, its races, etc. It is possible to access past, present, and future events within these records, available in the internal planes. |
| Alaya |
(Sanskrit, a, "not"; laya, from the verb-root li, "to dissolve"; hence Alaya means "the indissoluble." Also alaya-vijnana. In Tibetan: kunshi namshe) In the Mahayana Yogachara school, the ground consciousness or storehouse consciousness, the base consciousness of everything that exists, from which everything arises. It is said to contain the seeds or germs of experience. Alaya is a synonym of Ain Soph. "Immense is the ineffable joy of those Diamond Souls who became lost within the great Alaya of the universe. [...] Alaya is the Anima Mundi of Plato, the Super-Soul of Emerson, submitted to incessant periodical changes. Alaya is in itself eternal and immutable; however, it suffers tremendous changes during the Mahamanvantaric manifestation. The Yogacharyas from the Mahayana school state that Alaya is the personification of the Illuminating Void. It is unquestionable that Alaya is the living foundation of the seven cosmos... [...] Alaya, even being eternal and immutable in its essence, reflects itself within every object of the universe, just as the moon does in the clear and tranquil water. [...] The Cosmic Consciousness, the great Alaya of the Universe, must awaken within each human being. Nevertheless, we make emphasis of the necessity of not confusing the consciousness with the Absolute." - Samael Aun Weor, Cosmic Teachings of a Lama " |
| Alchemical Birth |
To be "born again" as explained by Jesus to Nicodemus (John 3) "of water and of the Spirit" through the science of Alchemy; this birth is realized through the creation and subsequent perfection of the Soul. See also Alchemy. |
| Alchemy |
Al (as a connotation of the Arabic word Allah: al-, the + ilah, God) means "The God." Also Al (Hebrew) for "highest" or El "God." Chem or Khem is from kimia (Greek) which means "to fuse or cast a metal." Also from Khem, the ancient name of Egypt. The synthesis is Al-Kimia: "to fuse with the highest" or "to fuse with God." In Alchemy, it is symbolically stated that there exist Five Atomic Ingredients with a Unitive Cement in order to acquire such fusion: Seed, Honey, Wine, Bread and Milk. Seed: Represents the Ens Seminis, the masculine and feminine creative energy. Honey: wisely represents the Bartholin glands or greater vestibular glands. These are two glands located slightly below and on both sides of the vaginal opening in women. They secrete mucus to provide lubrication, especially when the woman is sexually aroused, thus facilitating sexual activity. Wine: Is the same Ens Seminis, transmuted or elevated to a higher scale of vibration by means of the alchemical transmutation, which is magisterially symbolized in the biblical narration of the transmutation of water into wine in the weddings of Canaan of Galilee. Bread: it is a clear reference to the Solar Bodies, the Existential Vehicles of the Being; the outcome of the Alchemical Work. Milk: Symbol of the Developed Virtues. |
| Aleph |
[א] The first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, it symbolizes the element air. Its Kabbalistic numerical value is 1. Aleph is one of the three mother letters (אמש). |
| Ambrosia |
In Greek mythology, ambrosia is food and drink with which the Olympian gods preserved their immortality; a symbol of sexual energy. Also known in India as Soma and in the Judeo-Christian scriptures as Manna. |
| Amen |
In Hebrew letters, Amen is spelled אמן Aleph, Mem, Nun, and is a synthesis of El Melech Naaman, which in Hebrew means “God, the faithful king” (El for Aleph, Melech for Mem, and Naaman for Nun). Derived from Amen-Ra (Egyptian). |
| Amenti |
(Egyptian) Esoterically and literally, the dwelling of the God Amen. A reference to the Underworld. |
| Amitabha |
(Sanskrit, literally means "boundless light and boundless life"). He is the Buddha in the Land of Ultimate Bliss (Pure Land), in which all beings enjoy unbounded happiness. The inner Being (Contemplation Buddha) of Gautama and Tsong Khapa. "Let us remember Tsong Khapa who reincarnated in Tibet; he was the Buddha Gautama previously. The Buddha of Buddha Amitabha is another thing, his true divine prototype. Amitabha is the Contemplation Buddha, and Gautama, we could say, is the Manifestation Buddha, the worldly Buddha or Bodhisattva. We cannot deny that Amitabha expressed himself brilliantly through Gautama. We cannot deny that later Amitabha sent Gautama (the Bodhisattva or worldly Buddha) directly to a new reincarnation. Then he expressed himself as Tsong Khapa." - Samael Aun Weor from "Mental Representations" |
| Amrita |
(Sanskrit; Tibetan dutsi) "The ambrosial drink or food of the Gods; the food which gives immortality. The elixir of life churned out of the ocean of milk in the Puranic allegory. An old vedic term applied to the sacred Soma juice in the Temple Mysteries." - from the Theosophical Glossary. The transmutation of the sexual waters elaborates the extraordinary "pure waters of Amrita," the mercury of secret philosophy. |
| Anael |
"The disciple of the rocky path that leads to Nirvana is filled with ecstasy when he has the joy of contemplating Anael, the Angel of love. Anael presents himself before those who invoke him, who know how to call him. Anael is a beautiful child of the dawn. In the presence of the Angel of love, we feel ourselves returning to the lost innocence of Eden. Anael's hair is like a golden waterfall falling on his alabaster shoulders. The face of the Angel of love has the rosy color of the dawn. Anael wears a white tunic and he is indescribably beautiful. Anael is the Angel of music and love, the angel of beauty and tenderness, the delightful cupid of all lovers, the ecstasy of all adoration." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony |
| Anahata |
(sanskrit) The chakra or energetic center related to the heart. |
| Anahata sound |
A high pitched note heard in moments of drowsiness or meditation. |
| Ananke |
(Greek) Ananke or Anagke comes from the ancient Greek Ανάγκη, a goddess representing destiny, necessity, and fate. She is a primeval goddess (protogenos) who emerged self-formed at the very beginning of existence, and is said to be a formless serpent encompassing all manifested existence. She emerged with her serpent mate Khronos or Cronos, the god of time. They are far beyond all other Gods. The daughters of Ananke are the three Fates. "There is a law of stern Ananke (Necessity), the immemorial ordinance of the gods made fast for ever, bravely sworn and sealed: should any Daimon (Spirit or God), born to enduring life, be fouled with sin of slaughter, or transgress by disputation, perjured and forsworn, three times ten thousand years that soul shall wander an outcast from Felicity, condemned to mortal being, and in diverse shapes with interchange of hardship go his ways. The Heavens force him headlong to the Sea; and vomited from the Sea, dry land receives him, but flings unwanted to the burning Sun; from there, to the heavenly vortex backward thrown, he makes from host to host, by all abhorred." - Empedocles, Fragments (Greek philosopher C5th B.C.) "[Prometheus bound to Mount Kaukasos:] Let him [Zeus] lift me on high and hurl me down to black Tartaros with the swirling floods of stern Necessity (anankê): do what he will, me he shall never bring to death [for Prometheus is immortal]." - Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound 1050 "And he [Epicurus] says that the world began in the likeness of an egg, and the Wind [Khronos (Time) and Ananke (Inevitability) entwined?] encircling the egg serpent-fashion like a wreath or a belt then began to constrict nature. As it tried to squeeze all the matter with greater force, it divided the world into the two hemispheres, and after that the atoms sorted themselves out, the lighter and finer ones in the universe floating above and becoming the Bright Air [Aither or Ouranos] and the most rarefied Wind [Khaos the Air?], while the heaviest and dirtiest have veered down, become the Earth (Ge), both the dry land and the fluid waters [Hydros or Pontos?]. And the atoms move by themselves and through themselves within the revolution of the Sky and the Stars, everything still being driven round by the serpent-form wind [Khronos and Ananke?]." - Orphica, Epicuras Fragment (from Epiphanius) "I [Prometheus] must bear my allotted doom [to be chained to a mountain] as lightly as I can, knowing that the might of Necessity (anankê) permits no resistance." - Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound 103 "And there were another three who sat round about at equal intervals, each one on her throne, the Moirai (Fates), daughters of Ananke, clad in white vestments with filleted heads, Lakhesis, and Klotho, and Atropos, who sang in unison with the music of the Seirenes, Lakhesis singing the things that were, Klotho the things that are, and Atropos the things that are to be . . . Lakhesis, the maiden daughter of Ananke (Necessity)." - Plato, Republic 617c (trans. Shorey) (Greek philosopher C4th B.C.) "Anankei : With Anankei (Necessity) not even gods fight." - Suidas s.v. Anankei (Byzantine Greek Lexicon C10th A.D.) |
| Ancient of Days |
(עתיק יומין Atik Yomin, from Aramaic) A name for God in many traditions. "I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment [was] white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne [was like] the fiery flame, [and] his wheels [as] burning fire." - Daniel 7:9 "The First Mystery is Kether, the Ancient of Days..." - Samael Aun Weor, The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Andrameleck |
"Andrameleck, the wealthy and pompous black magician of China, says that the human being is an angel; therefore, he does not need to suffer. He always advises his friends to enter into the aristocracy, to dress like princes and to collect a lot of money." - Samael Aun Weor, The Revolution of Beelzebub |
| Androgynous |
Gk. androgynos, "male and female in one," from andros "male" + genika "female", meaning: having male and female sexual polarities or characteristics. A sexless being capable of reproducing its own species by means of asexual reproduction, in other words, a living species that without having evident sexual organs is capable of reproducing its own species (i.e. fissiparous "Tending to break up into parts or break away from an androgynous body"). |
| Angel |
(Greek: aγγελος) "The whole cosmos is directed, watched, and animated by a series of almost interminable hierarchies of conscious beings. Each one of them (whether they are called by one name or another, such as Dhyan Chohans, Angels, or Devas, etc.) have a mission to accomplish, and are messengers only in the sense that they are agents of the Karmic and Cosmic Laws. They vary in their respective degrees of consciousness and intelligence infinitely. All of them are perfect humans in the most complete sense of the word. Multiple angelical services characterize divine love. Each Elohim works within his specialty. We can and must appeal for angelical protection." - Samael Aun Weor, The Three Mountains “In reality, Angels are perfect human beings. Therefore, whosoever reaches the perfect state of human being becomes an Angel. Those who claim that an Angel is inferior to humans are falsifying the truth. No one can achieve the angelic state if he has not previously reached the state of perfect human being. No one can achieve the state of perfect human being if he has not previously incarnated his Soul. This is a sexual problem. The Angel is born only within the true human beings.” - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony “There are two types of Angels: Innocent Angels and Virtuous Angels. The Innocent Angels are the elementals of plants, and the Virtuous Angels are perfect Human Beings.” - Samael Aun Weor, Occult Medicine and Practical Magic |
| Anger |
A psychological element of hostility or violence. In Christianity, one of the seven capital sins. In Buddhism, anger (hate, aggression) is depicted as one of the three core defects upon which the entire Wheel of Samsara rotates. According to the Paramitas, anger is the chief obstacle in the development of patience (ksanti). Samael Aun Weor stated that anger (hate) must be transmuted into its pure form: love, which is related to Mars (Samael). “There are three gates to self-destructive hell: lust, anger, and greed.” - Bhagavad Gita 16.21 Finding its fuel in the foul state of mind Why, sir, do you get angry at someone who is angry with you? “The psychic aggregates of anger are multiple. There is anger because of jealousy, because of hatred, because of frustrated desires, because of selfish monetary motives, because of disputed matters, because of terror, or because of various states of spirit, mind, body, and tongue, etc... Anger is associated with many psychic aggregates. The angry one fails in the Great Work of the Father.” - Samael Aun Weor, The Pistis Sophia Unveiled “One needs serenity in order to have clairvoyance. In order to see in the Internal Worlds, one has to not allow oneself to be driven by anger, because anger destroys the frontal chakra. Therefore, serenity is required.” - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot and Kabbalah “Anger is the violent outcome of frustrated desire... Anger, rancor, and hatred are distinct forms of desire that are transmuted into supreme sweetness, infinite pardon, and supreme love.” - Samael Aun Weor, Fundamental Notions of Endocrinology & Criminology |
| Anima |
Latin, soul. |
| Animal |
From Latin “Anima” - the soul of a sentient living entity, whose nature expresses the vocation of its Being Every Atom is a Trio of Matter, Energy and Consciousness ("Anima") |
| Animal Mind |
The instinctive mind developed by the process of our evolution through the animal kingdom and remaining with us when we enter the humanoid kingdom. This form of mind is instinctive and belongs to nature. This is the lunar mind that must be replaced by the solar mind of the Real Human. |
| Animal Soul |
Part of our own psyche, the Nephesh is related to our motor-instinctive-sexual brain, and is also related with the soul of animals. The Nephesh is related to the blood and to animal instinct. |
| Annihilation |
The destruction of the subjective psychic aggregates, required in the work to free the soul from suffering. The annihilation of the psychic aggregates can be made possible only by radically comprehending our errors through meditation and by the evident Self-reflection of the Being. - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Ansanbaluiazar |
A term used by Gurdjieff, which means "everything issuing from everything and again entering into everything." (Gurdjieff, All and Everything 39:761) |
| Antakarana |
(Sanskrit, literally "inner ogran, instrument") The name of the silver cord that joins the physical body with the internal bodies. "When the bridge called "Antakarana," which communicates the divine triad with its "inferior essence," is broken, the inferior essence (trapped into the ego) is left separated and is sunk into the abyss of destructive forces, where it (its ego) disintegrates little by little." - The Zodiacal Course |
| Antichrist |
The force or energy which is polarized in the opposite vibration of the energy or force of the Christ. The Christ is the force of light which gives rise to all life: it is creative, illuminating, and marked by pure, selfless love or compassion. The energy or force of the Antichrist is destructive, bringing darkness, selfishness, and hatred. According to Universal Gnosticism, the intellect of each human being is the Antichrist, because the intellect of the contemporary human being is selfish, filled with darkness and hatred, and seeks to create destruction through the inventions, books, movies, words, and concepts it produces. Definitely, the Antichrist is not a particular person, but all people. Obviously, the Antichrist itself exists deep within each person and expresses itself in many ways. |
| Antimony |
The Antimony is one part of the Being. It is the great Alchemist who fastens the Gold into the superior existential bodies of the Being. - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Anu atom |
(Sanskrit) "A title of Brahma, who is said to be an atom just as is the infinite universe." - from the Theosophical Glossary. |
| Anubis |
Mentioned many times in The Pistis Sophia (he is \the dog-faced one\) and well-known in Egyptian symbolism, Anubis is the supreme hierarch of the Law of Karma who is assisted by 42 Judges. The Temple of the Law where he presides is located on the Sun, which is ruled by Michael, the holder of the scales of cosmic balance, related with the Law. \The one who awakens Consciousness can travel in his internal bodies outside the physical body, with full conscious will, and study his own book of destiny. In the Temple of Anubis and his Forty-two Judges, the initiate can study his own book. Anubis is the supreme ruler of Karma. The Temple of Anubis is found in the Molecular World, called the Astral World by many people. The Initiates can directly negotiate with Anubis. We can pay every karmic debt with good deeds, but we have to negotiate with Anubis. The Law of Karma, the Law of the Cosmic Balance is not a blind law; one can also ask for credit from the Lords of Karma, but every credit must be paid with good deeds and if not paid, then the Law collects with pain.\ - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |

| Apas |
(Sanskrit, "water") The tattva or vibration of aquaeous ether. From this vibration arises physical water. |
| Ape |
"Behold, then, in the modern denizens of the great forests of Sumatra the degraded and dwarfed examples -- "blurred copies," as Mr. Huxley has it -- of ourselves, as we (the majority of mankind) were in the earliest sub-races of the Fourth Root-race during the period of what is called the "Fall into generation." The ape we know is not the product of natural evolution but an accident, a cross-breed between an animal being, or form, and man. As has been shown in the present volume (anthropogenesis), it is the speechless animal that first started sexual connection, having been the first to separate into males and females. Nor was it intended by Nature that man should follow the bestial example -- as shown by the comparatively painless procreation of their species by the animals, and the terrible suffering and danger of the same in the woman. The Ape is, indeed, as remarked in Isis Unveiled (Vol. II 278) "a transformation of species most directly connected with that of the human family -- a hybrid branch engrafted on their own stock before the final perfection of the latter" -- or man. The apes are millions of years later than the speaking human being, and are the latest contemporaries of our Fifth Race. Thus, it is most important to remember that the Egos of the apes are entities compelled by their Karma to incarnate in the animal forms, which resulted from the bestiality of the latest Third and the earliest Fourth Race men. They are entities who had already reached the "human stage" before this Round. Consequently, they form an exception to the general rule. The numberless traditions about Satyrs are no fables, but represent an extinct race of animal men. The animal "Eves" were their foremothers, and the human "Adams" their forefathers; hence the Kabalistic allegory of Lilith or Lilatu, Adam's first wife, whom the Talmud describes as a charming woman, with long wavy hair, i.e.-- a female hairy animal of a character now unknown, still a female animal, who in the Kabalistic and Talmudic allegories is called the female reflection of Samael, Samael-Lilith, or man-animal united, a being called Hayo Bischat, the Beast or Evil Beast (Zohar). It is from this unnatural union that the present apes descended." - H.P. Blavatsky. The Secret Doctrine |
| Apep |
The Egyptian symbol of the Tempting Serpent of Eden, the Luciferic Fire of passion. |
| Apis |
(Egyptian) The sacred bull of Memphis, said to be the incarnation of Osiris or of Ptah. His worship spread throughout the Mediterranean world and was particularly important during the time of the Roman Empire. \Among the ancient Egyptians, the Sacred Bull Apis had to be young, healthy and strong in order to symbolize the Philosophical Stone. The famous Bull Apis, so adored in the Egyptian Mysteries, was the creator and prosecutor of souls. The symbolic Bull Apis was consecrated to Isis, because it is in fact related to the Sacred Cow, the Divine Mother Isis, whose veil no mortal has ever lifted. In order for a Bull to have the high honor of being promoted to such a category, it was necessary for it to be black and to have on its forehead or on one of its shoulder blades, a white spot in the shape of a crescent Moon. It is also true, that said sacred bull had to have been conceived under the impression of the ray and have under the tongue the mark of the sacred scarab. Apis was the symbol of the Moon, both because of its horns in the shape of a crescent Moon, as well as because, except during the full moon, this celestial body always has a tenebrous part (indicated by the blackness of the Bull\'s skin) and another resplendent side (symbolized by the white spot).\ - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |
| Apocalypse |
Generally a reference to the Book written by St. John, which is the last book of the Christian Bible. This book is also called the Revelation of St. John. This controversial and deeply symbolic work is discussed in many of the books of Samael Aun Weor, but especially in The Aquarian Message and The Revolution of Beelzebub. \The fundamental book of the Great Work, which James carries in his hands, is the Apocalypse (Revelation). Unquestionably, the Apocalypse is the book of Wisdom, which is comprehensible only by the Alchemists. Only the workers of the Great Work can comprehend the Apocalypse. The secret science of the Apocalypse is found in the superior Chemistry, which is Alchemy. The laws of the superior Chemistry or Alchemy, the principles, the order of the Magisterium of the Fire, are found placed in the Apocalypse.\ - from The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Apocrypha |
\But what is an Apocrypha? The very etymology of the term shows that it is simply a secret book, i.e., one that belonged to the catalogue of temple libraries under the guardianship of the Hierophants and initiated priests, and was never meant for the profane. Apocrypha comes from the verb Crypto, [[krupto]], \to hide.\ - The Secret Doctrine by H. P. Blavatsky -- Vol. 2: ENOICHION-HENOCH. |
| Apollyon |
"And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon." - Revelation 9:11 The book of Revelation equated Abaddon with Apollyon, and Cornelius Agrippa positioned him as the monarch in Klipoth, yon in the lower shadow of the Sephirah Tiphereth (Beauty) on the Kabbalistic Tree. Indeed, Tiphereth is governed by the Sun-Apollo (the Cosmic Christ) and the planet Venus-Aphrodite (Goddess of love and beauty). Tiphereth relates to the Human Soul and the Heart in the physical body. The blood stream places the Astral Light (Apollo) “yon” Tiphereth-the Heart, there in Yesod-Sexual Organs. Thus, Apollyon is the fallen Tiphereth (the Malachim, the human soul, the psyche) that receives the Astral Solar Light of Apollo (Christ) through the heart, and who thereafter squanders through the sexual organs by means of fornication and adultery (Lilith and Nahemah – Evil Beauty), the negative aspects of Venus-Aphrodite (sexual force).
"There we see Abbadon, the angel of the Abyss, who suffers in the chains and bonds with which he martyrized others." - Occult Medicine and Practical Magic As described in Revelation, Apollyon (the fallen Tiphereth) opens the gates of the abyss (Klipoth) and unleashes upon the earth his swarms of lustful demons “locusts,” who then proceed to torture those of mankind who do not bear the seal of God (chastity) upon their forehead. After that, (by means of the Great Arcanum) he (Tiphereth, the Human Soul – Willpower - Thelema) is supposed (with the help of Apollo - Christ) to seize Satan himself, bind him and toss him into the bottomless pit (Klipoth) for a thousand years. |
| Apopi |
The Egyptian symbol of the Demon of Desire, one of the Three Traitors, related to the heart and to the Kundabuffer organ. Also known as Sebal (Masonry) or Judas (Christianity). |

Arcadia was a symbol in Greek and Roman mythology for an earthly paradise, where one found Pan, the god of woods, fields, and flocks. Arcadia was described a terrestrial paradise in which there was no danger, and everyone lived a life of peace and harmony with nature. Arcadia hides many meanings. Historically, it can refer to an age of high culture and peace, such as the ancient Saturnian Round, the first round of the current Mahamanvantara, or also the Lemurian or pre-Lemurian races. [Read Revolution of Beelzebub by Samael Aun Weor]. |

Ideas are much larger concepts and belong to the world of Spiritual Archetypes. Every existing thing in the physical world is a copy of those archetypes. During Samadhi, the initiate can visit the world of spiritual archetypes in Astral or Super-astral journeys." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony "Sexual energy contains within it the living archetype of the authentic Solar Man, which must take shape within us." - Samael Aun Weor, The Mystery of the Golden Blossom |

| Ares |
(Greek) One of the twelve gods of Olympus. Ares was associated with the Roman god Mars and the planet Mars. Ares represented the divine forces related to manliness, courage, ferocity in battle, and when placated, the possibility of peace. "Ares, exceeding in strength, chariot-rider, golden-helmed, doughty in heart, shield-bearer, Saviour of cities, harnessed in bronze, strong of arm, unwearying, mighty with the spear, O defender of Olympos, father of warlike Nike (Victory), ally of Themis, stern governor of the rebellious, leader of the righteous men, sceptred King of manliness, who whirl your fiery sphere [the star Mars] among the planets in their sevenfold courses through the aither wherein your blazing steeds ever bear you above the third firmament of heaven; hear me, helper of men, giver of dauntless youth! Shed down a kindly ray from above upon my life, and strength of war, that I may be able to drive away bitter cowardice from my head and crush down the deceitful impulses of my soul. Restrain also the keen fury of my heart which provokes me to tread the ways of blood-curdling strife. Rather, O blessed one, give you me boldness to abide within the harmless laws of peace, avoiding strife and hatred and the violent fiends of death." - Homeric Hymn 8 to Ares; C7th to 4th B.C. |

| Aristippus |
A Greek philosopher who, wanting to show his wisdom and humility, garbed himself with an old robe, full of patches and holes. When Socrates saw him approaching he exclaimed, "Oh, Aristippus, your vanity shows through the holes in your garment." |
| Ark |
Although the word ark does not appear in the Hebrew scriptures (Tanakh or Torah), it does appear in Latin as arca, but translated from two very different words.
The Aron Kodesh (Holy Container) is contracted to Ar-K orally. Inexplicably, these two very different words (boat and container) are translated to Latin as arca, meaning chest, both as a box and the trunk of the human body, and also as a coffin, as that which Joseph was placed within when he died. Thus, for centuries people have conflated several very different things, although they are closely related in the Kabbalistic tradition. In fact, in the Judeo-Christian scriptures there are many "arks," but to find them one must know the Hebrew letters. Yet, it is not exclusively a Western symbol, as variations of the sacred vessel occur in every religion. "The Ark is the sacred Argha of the Hindus, and thus the relation in which it stands to Noah's ark may be easily inferred when we learn that the Argha was an oblong vessel, used by the high priests as a sacrificial chalice in the worship of Isis, Astarte, and Venus-Aphrodite, all of whom were goddesses of the generative powers of nature, or of matter -- hence representing symbolically the Ark containing the germs of all living things." ("Isis Unveiled," Vol. II., p. 444.)" - H.P. Blavatsky |
| Army of the Great Word/Voice |
A reference to Elohim Sabbaoth (Hebrew), the army or host of gods and goddesses. |
| Arsenic Sulfur |
In alchemy, a symbol of the sacred fire (sulfur) trapped in the ego, which is poison (arsenic) to the soul. "We must annihilate the psychic aggregates and the Arsenic Sulfur. The arsenic, poisonous Sulfur is an infernal type of fire within the lower animal depths of the human being. The Arsenic Sulfur is that horrible Python serpent that slithered in the mud of the earth and that the irritated Apollo hurt with his darts. It is the tail of Satan." - Samael Aun Weor, The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Artemis |
(Greek) An Olympian goddess in Greek religion and mythology, daughter of Zeus and Leto and twin sister of Apollo. Artemis' early worship, especially at Ephesus, identified her as an earth goddess, similar to Astarte. In Classical Greek literature she was portrayed as a deliberate and unshakable virgin, a symbol of having perfect chastity; she punished anyone who attempted to violate this state and required all of her attendents to maintain their chastity as well. She defended chastity among men and women. In later legend, however, she was primarily a virgin huntress, goddess of wildlife and patroness of hunters. As the complement to Apollo, she was often considered a moon goddess and as such was identified with Selene and Hecate; the confusion with Hecate arose because Artemis was considered the bringer of death to women, while her twin brother Apollo brought death to men. In ancient Greece, the worship of Artemis was widespread. The Romans identified her with Diana. She is mentioned in the biblical book of The Acts of the Apostles. |
| Aryan Race |
Quoted from Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary: “From Sanskrit [=a]rya excellent, honorable; akin to the name of the country Iran, and perh. to Erin, Ireland, and the early name of this people, at least in Asia. 1. One of a primitive people supposed to have lived in prehistoric times, in Central Asia, east of the Caspian Sea, and north of the Hindoo Koosh and Paropamisan Mountains, and to have been the stock from which sprang the Hindoo, Persian, Greek, Latin, Celtic, Teutonic, Slavonic, and other races; one of that ethnological division of mankind called also Indo-European or Indo-Germanic.” In Universal Gnosticism, this term refers to the vast majority of the popluation of this planet, and is noted for its close relationship with Ares or Mars, the God of War. Compare with \AquAryan\ and \barbAryan.\ The Aryan race, the fifth great race to exist on this planet, is under the guidance of Ares, Mars, the Fifth of the \Seven Spirits before the Throne of God.\ \Every Root Race has seven Subraces. The seed of our Aryan Root Race is Nordic, but when the Nordics mixed themselves with the Atlantean survivors, they gave origin onto the Subraces of the Aryan trunk. \First Subrace: It flourished in central Asia, in those now vanished kingdoms of central Asia, and whose ruins still exist in the Himalayas around the country of Tibet. Powerful spiritual civilizations of the first Aryan Subrace existed in those regions. Second Subrace: It flourished in India and the entire south of Asia. In Pearland, the sacred land of the Vedas, in the ancient Hindustan, where the second Aryan Subrace developed, formidable esoteric cultures and tremendous civilizations existed. Third Subrace: It created powerful civilizations. Babylon, Chaldea, Egypt, etc., etc. were the scenario of very rich and powerful civilizations created by the third Aryan Subrace. Fourth Subrace: It developed in Rome, Greece, Italy, and Athens, the great city founded by the Goddess Athena. Before their degeneration and destruction, Greece and Italy were marvelous scenarios where the powerful civilizations of the fourth Aryan Subrace developed. Fifth Subrace: Are the Anglo-Saxon and Teutonic. The First and Second World Wars, with all of their barbarism and moral corruption, point with their accusatory fingers to the men and women of the fifth Aryan Subrace. Sixth Subrace: The mixture of the Spanish Conquistadors with the Native-American tribes. The effort to form the sixth Subrace in the redskin territory was very difficult, because the English Conquistadors destroyed them; they assassinated them, instead of mixing themselves with the natives. Only in a very insignificant and incipient way was the mixture of blood performed. This is why the Occult Fraternity saw the necessity of converting the North American territory into a melting crucible of races. So, the formation of the sixth Subrace in the United States had enormous difficulties; there, all the races of the world have mixed. The sixth Subrace in Latin America was formed very easily and this is something that must not be ignored by the treatisers of anthropogenesis and occultism. Seventh Subrace: The survivors of the new great cataclysm that soon will destroy this Aryan Root Race will be formed by the survivors of the Seventh Subrace; they still do not exist, but they will. So, this Aryan Root Race, instead of evolving, has devolved, and its corruption is now worse than that of the Atlanteans in their epoch. Its wickedness is so great that it has reached unto heaven.\ - The Kabbalah of the Mayan Mysteries |

The Hebrew name Ari (also Arieh or Aryeh) translates as "lion"; the Biblical Judah (in Hebrew Yehuda) is the original name of the Tribe of Judah - traditionally symbolized by a lion. In Genesis, the patriarch Jacob refers to his son Judah as a Gur Aryeh גּוּר אַרְיֵה יְהוּדָה , a "Young Lion" (Genesis 49:9) when blessing him. So, Aryeh is the constellation of Leo, house of the Sun, the Ain Soph Aur and of the Christified Initiates. |
| Asana |
(Sanskrit) Posture or position. |
| Aspid |
An aspid is a viper (Vipera aspis). |
| Assiah |
(Hebrew עשיה; also Asiyah or Olam Asiyah, the world of action) The fourth and lowest of the Four Worlds of the Kabbalah, corresponding to the physical world or physical body. "The expression 'doing (heb. Asiyah)' applies to the body, which is in the world of Asiyah." - Zohar 10:3:351 "...everything, both good and bad, depends upon action." - Zohar In the Biblical Book of the Revelation of St. John, this term is mistranslated as "Asia." It should say: "John to the seven churches [energetic, psychological centers] which are in Assiah [the physical body]: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne." (Revelation 1:4) "Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Assiah [the physical body]; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea." (Revelation 1:11) |
| Astral |
This term is derived from pertaining to or proceeding from the stars, but in the esoteric knowledge it refers to the emotional aspect of the fifth dimension, which in Hebrew is called Hod. Related terms are below. |
| Astral Body |
The body utilized by the consciousness in the fifth dimension or world of dreams. What is commonly called the Astral Body is not the true Astral Body, it is rather the Lunar Protoplasmatic Body, also known as the Kama Rupa (Sanskrit, “body of desires”) or “dream body” (Tibetan rmi-lam-gyi lus). The true Astral Body is Solar (being superior to Lunar Nature) and must be created, as the Master Jesus indicated in the Gospel of John 3:5-6, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” The Solar Astral Body is created as a result of the Third Initiation of Major Mysteries (Serpents of Fire), and is perfected in the Third Serpent of Light. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Solar Astral Body is known as the illusory body (sgyu-lus). This body is related to the emotional center and to the sephirah Hod. “Really, only those who have worked with the Maithuna (White Tantra) for many years can possess the Astral Body.” - Samael Aun Weor, The Elimination of Satan’s Tail |
| Astral Light |
"The Astral Light is the deposit of all of great Nature's past, present and future forms. The Astral Light is the Azoth and Magnesia of the ancient Alchemists, Medea's Flying Dragon, the Christians' INRI, the Tarot of the Bohemians. The Astral Light is a terrific sexual fire springing from the Sun's nimbus and is fixed to the Earth by the force of gravity and the weight of the atmosphere. The Sun is the one that attracts and repels such an enchanting and delightful light. The Astral Light is Archimedes' lever. The old Sage said: "Give me a fulcrum and I will move the universe." The semen is the human being's Astral liquid. The semen is the Astral Light. The semen is the key to all powers and the key to all empires. The Astral Light has two poles, one positive and the other negative. The ascending serpent is positive. The descending serpent is negative." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony "The Astral Light is the battlefield between white and black magicians. The Astral Light is the clue of all empires and the key of all powers. It is the great universal agent of life. All the columns of angels and demons live within the Astral Light..." - The Revolution of Beelzebub See also: Od |
| Astrology |
From Astro (Greek, "star") Logos ("the Word"). In esoterism, the Logos is the primordial intelligence that creates ("...and God said, Let there be light...") therefore, esoteric astrology is the study of the Word (Logos) in relation to the stars (astro), in relation to the heavens, and how the Light of the Logos as it descends through all the layered condensations of matter and energy (symbolized in the Kabbalah) influences all phenomena. "Astrology is a science which goes back to the time of the first ages of humanity." - Occult Medicine |
| Astrotheurgy |
From Astro (Greek, “star”) and Greek: theourgeia, related to theos, “god,” and ergon, “work.” The synthesis: “the science to consciously work with the intelligences of the stars.” |
| Atala |
(Sanskrit) One of the regions of the Hindu Lokas (realms). |
| Athanor |
A symbol in the tradition of Alchemy. The athanor was a symbolic oven. "The Alchemist needs an athanor to work in the great work. The athanor is the woman." - Samael Aun Weor, The Manual of Practical Magic |
| Atma-Vidya |
(Sanskrit) The Real Wisdom of the Being, Atman, the Superior Monad. \What is fundamental is Atma-Vidya; it includes all of the former sciences (Kabbalah, Chiromancy, Astrology, Occult Physiology, Scientific Cartomancy, etc.,) in their essential aspect and can even use them occasionally; but it only utilizes their quintessential extracts purified of all dross. The Golden Door of Wisdom can transform itself into the wide door and broad path, which leads to destruction, the door of magical arts practiced with egotistical ends. We are in the Age of Kali-Yuga, the Iron Age, the Black Age and all the students of Occultism are predisposed to becoming lost in the black path. It is astonishing to see the mistaken concept held by the “younger brothers” regarding Occultism and the ease with which they believe they can reach the Door and cross the Threshold of Mystery without a Great Sacrifice. To attain the Atma-Vidya without the Three Factors for the Revolution of Consciousness is impossible. To attain the Atma-Vidya is impossible without first having attained the Second Birth. To attain the Atma-Vidya is impossible without the death of the Pluralized I. To attain the Atma-Vidya is impossible without Sacrifice for humanity. It is not the Law of Evolution that confers the Atma-Vidya upon us. It is not the Law of Devolution that confers the Atma-Vidya upon us. It is only on the basis of tremendous and frightening Inner Revolutions, that we arrive at the Atma-Vidya.\ - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |
| Atman |
(Sanskrit, literally "self") An ancient and important word that is grossly misinterpreted in much of Hinduism and Buddhism. Many have misunderstood this word as referring to a permanently existing self or soul. Yet the true meaning is otherwise. "Brahman, Self, Purusha, Chaitanya, Consciousness, God, Atman, Immortality, Freedom, Perfection, Bliss, Bhuma or the unconditioned are synonymous terms." - Swami Sivananva Thus, Atman as "self" refers to a state of being "unconditioned," which is related to the Absolute, the Ain Soph, or the Shunyata (Emptiness). Thus, Atman refers to the Innermost, the Spirit, the Son of God, who longs to return to that which is beyond words. "Atman, in Himself, is the ineffable Being, the one who is beyond time and eternity, without end of days. He does not die, neither reincarnates (the ego is what returns), but Atman is absolutely perfect." - Samael Aun Weor In general use, the term Atman can also refer to the spirit or sephirah Chesed. "The Being Himself is Atman, the Ineffable. If we commit the
error of giving the Being the qualifications of superior “I,” alter
ego, subliminal “I,” or divine ego, etc., we commit blasphemy,
because That which is Divine, the Reality, can never fall into the
heresy of separability. Superior and inferior are two sections of the same thing. "Bliss is the essential nature of man. The central fact of man's being is his inherent divinity. Man's essential nature is divine, the awareness of which he has lost because of his animal propensities and the veil of ignorance. Man, in his ignorance, identifies himself with the body, mind, Prana and the senses. Transcending these, he becomes one with Brahman or the Absolute who is pure bliss. Brahman or the Absolute is the fullest reality, the completest consciousness. That beyond which there is nothing, that which is the innermost Self of all is Atman or Brahman. The Atman is the common Consciousness in all beings. A thief, a prostitute, a scavenger, a king, a rogue, a saint, a dog, a cat, a rat-all have the same common Atman. There is apparent, fictitious difference in bodies and minds only. There are differences in colours and opinions. But, the Atman is the same in all. If you are very rich, you can have a steamer, a train, an airship of your own for your own selfish interests. But, you cannot have an Atman of your own. The Atman is common to all. It is not an individual's sole registered property. The Atman is the one amidst the many. It is constant amidst the forms which come and go. It is the pure, absolute, essential Consciousness of all the conscious beings. The source of all life, the source of all knowledge is the Atman, thy innermost Self. This Atman or Supreme Soul is transcendent, inexpressible, uninferable, unthinkable, indescribable, the ever-peaceful, all-blissful. There is no difference between the Atman and bliss. The Atman is bliss itself. God, perfection, peace, immortality, bliss are one. The goal of life is to attain perfection, immortality or God. The nearer one approaches the Truth, the happier one becomes. For, the essential nature of Truth is positive, absolute bliss. There is no bliss in the finite. Bliss is only in the Infinite. Eternal bliss can be had only from the eternal Self. To know the Self is to enjoy eternal bliss and everlasting peace. Self-realisation bestows eternal existence, absolute knowledge, and perennial bliss. None can be saved without Self-realisation. The quest for the Absolute should be undertaken even sacrificing the dearest object, even life, even courting all pain. Study philosophical books as much as you like, deliver lectures and lectures throughout your global tour, remain in a Himalayan cave for one hundred years, practise Pranayama for fifty years, you cannot attain emancipation without the realisation of the oneness of the Self." - Swami Sivananda |
| Atmic Body |
In Kabbalah, the Atmic body is related with the sephirah Chesed. This is the superior body of the Innermost, the Being, the Father contained within the Trinity of each Monad. The Atmic Body is immersed within the sixth dimension. Man is septuple (possessing seven bodies) and the Atmic Body is the seventh body. |
| Atom |
Every atom is a trio of matter, energy and consciousness. The consciousness of every atom is always an intelligent elemental. If the materialists are not capable of seeing those elementals, it is because they still do not know the scientific procedures that allow us to see them. We have special methods in order to see those creatures. Indeed, the atom is a truly infinitely small planetary system. Those planetary systems of the atoms are formed by ultra-atomic ternaries that spin around their centers of gravitation. The atom with its Alpha, Beta, and Gamma rays is a trio of matter, energy and consciousness. - Endocrinology and Criminology |
| Atziluth |
(Hebrew אצילות; also Atzilut or Olam Atzilut) The First of the Four Worlds of the Kabbalah, whose center of gravity is in the superior triangle of the Tree of Life. This is the World of Archetypes or Emanations, ruled by the sephirah Kether. "The highest part of man is the world of intuition and objective spiritual consciousness. In the world of intuition, the archetypes of all things in nature develop." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony |
| AUM |
(Also Aom, Om, Ohm) A sacred sound (mantra) of great importance in many religions. Aum represents the primordial abstract, absolute space that is beyond attributes or forms, yet is the origin of everything. In the Hindu Vedas, AUM is called the "Sound of the Sun," and the "Sound of Light." In Islam, this is known as Saut-I-Sarmadi, the Unsounded Melody, or Kalma, "word." The Sikhs call it Shabd. The Tibetan Buddhists call it bden tshig. "Master Jesus also vocalized the great mantra AUM. Esoterically, this mantra is vocalized AOM. The mouth is broadly opened with the A; it is rounded with the O and closed with the M. The A engenders everything, the O gestates everything, and everything is born with the M. The one who wants to be born has to enter into the womb of a woman in order to have the right to be born. Each letter of the mantra AOM has to be prolonged and sustained." - The Major Mysteries |
| Aun |
(Hebrew און) Virility, sexual strength. |
| Auric embryo |
The symbiosis of the forces of heaven and the earth crystallized within the superlative consciousness of the Being by means of their Self-realization. “When the ego is destroyed, the Auric Embryo is formed; then the immortal principles enter into the Initiate...” - Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Avalokiteshvara |
Avalokiteshvara (Sanskrit, lit. "Lord who looks down"; Tibetan spyan-ras-gzigs dbang-phyug) is a manifestation of the compassion (bodhichitta) of all buddhas. Avalokiteshvara can be seen as a deity or as referring to the Bodhisattvas of Compassion. The Tibetan name is Chenrezig. Avalokiteshvara is a symbol of the Cosmic Christ. The eleven-headed, thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara is the symbol of the many Bodhisattvas of compassion that attained the ten Bodhisattva stages and also symbolizes the many Avalokiteshvara’s incarnations or Buddhas of compassion within the different Sephiroth of the Tree of Life. He is also known as Kuan-Yin and Chenrezig; in Hinduism he is Vishnu. In the Greek language he is Khristos or Christ who looks in every direction in order to assist and save any being through his Bodhisattvas. Thus, its thousand arms extend his helping hands toward all beings. His ten heads indicate the process through the ten Bodhisattva stages towards the perfection of the Nirmanakaya Body; these stages are represented in the ten hierarchies of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life of the world of Yetzirah with the eleventh that represents the acquisition of the Samboghakaya Body; thus, the eleventh head indicates the incarnation of the universal compassion of all Buddhas. The ten heads also represent the prajnaparamita type of vision that is able to look at all beings within and without the ten Sephiroth of space; the eleventh head represents the all-encompassing Buddha wisdom (Chokmah). |
| Avarice |
Or greed. One of the seven capital sins. Must be transmuted into its pure form: altruism, which is related to the Moon (Gabriel). “Greed is the desire of accumulating... Greed can be transmuted into charity... The accumulative desire of greed is transmuted into the happiness of giving everything, even one’s life, for the love of this suffering humanity.” - Fundamental Notions of Endocrinology & Criminology “Renounce avarice, that ye may be worthy of the mysteries of the Light and be saved from the fire-rivers of the dog-faced [one].” - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Avatar |
From the Sanskrit avatāraḥ, meaning descent (of a deity from heaven), avatar: ava, down + tarati, he crosses. An incarnation of the cosmic, universal Christ (Vishnu, Chokmah). Samael Aun Weor used the term "avatar" to mean "messenger." "The reincarnated Christ expresses himself through every authentic Avatar. " - Samael Aun Weor, The Pistis Sophia Unveiled "...the Omni-merciful, the infinitude that sustains all, the very, very sacred Absolute Sun, periodically sends Avatars, Saviors, to this valley of tears. These sacred individuals, these messengers, these Saviors, are living incarnations of the Omni-merciful. Nevertheless, this lunar race, this perverse race of Adam, mortally hates such helpers. [...] The blessed Krishna, the blessed Buddha, the blessed Lama, the blessed Mohammed, the loving, essential Ashiata Shiemash, Moses, Quetzalcoatl (and many others) were all Avatars. The doctrine of all Avatars has its roots in the three basic factors of the revolution of the consciousness: to be born, to die, and to sacrifice the self for humanity." - Samael Aun Weor, The Doomed Aryan Race "Avataras appear for special reasons in special circumstances. Whenever there is much unrighteousness, whenever confusion and disorder set in on account of unrighteousness and baffle the well-ordered progress of people, whenever the balance of human society is upset by selfish, ruthless and cruel beings, whenever irreligion and Adharma prevail, whenever the foundations of social organisations are undermined, Avataras appear to establish Dharma and to restore peace. Avatara is a descent of God for the ascent of man. A ray from the Hiranyagarbha descends on earth with mighty powers to keep up the harmony of the universe. The work done by the Avataras and their teachings produce a benign spiritual influence on human beings and help them in their upward divine unfoldment and Self-realisation. The Avatara comes to reveal the divine nature in man and makes him rise above the petty materialistic life of passion and egoism." - Swami Sivananda, Lord Krishna, His Lilas and Teachings |
| Aversion |
In Buddhism, one of the three poisons at the root of the mind, and at the root of suffering. The Tibetan word zhe-sdang and the Sanskrit dvesa are also interpreted as anger or hatred. |
| Avitchi |
(Sanskrit and Pali, literally "without waves"; also transliterated Avichi, Avici) In Buddhism, the lowest level of the hell realms, inhabited by those who have committed one or more of the Five Grave Offenses:
|
| Awareness |
The basic function of consciousness. In Buddhism, the specific term is rig-pa (Tibetan) or vidya (Sanskrit), and is interpreted according to context, since consciousness has infinite levels of development, and thus infinite ranges of awareness. |
| Awe |

| Ayin |
|
| Ayocosmos |
(Greek - "Highest Order") This is the 7th or Zero dimension and the realm of the Infinite or Firmament, the Logos (see TRIAMAZICAMNOS). It is "SI" on the Tonal Scale of Creation and is related to the Law of Three. The Beings that exist here are classified as Trikayas (3 Kayas): Dharmakayas (Kether), Sambokayas (Chokmah), Nirmanakayas (Binah).
"The second is the Ayocosmos or Megalocosmos, that is to say, the Vast
Cosmos, or all of the Suns, all of the worlds of the infinite space." - The Elimination of Satan's Tail |
| Azoth |
In alchemy, Azoth is the life principle of all metals.
Alchemists always address three symbolic substances: mercury, sulfur, and salt. Azoth is added as a fourth, mysterious permuting life principle.
According to Alchemy: Salt, sulfur, and mercury each have a triune nature, for each of these substances contain, in reality, also the other two substances.
Therefore, the body of Salt is threefold: salt, sulfur, and mercury; but in the body of Salt one of the three (salt) predominates.
Mercury is likewise composed of salt, sulfur, and mercury with the latter element predominating.
The permutation of these nine divisions - 3 times 3 – 9 is done thanks to Azoth, the sacred fire of Kundalini. Azoth is therefore the universal substance, the invisible eternal fire, electricity, magnetism, astral light, the measureless spirit of life, the fiery mercurial essence that flows out from the throne of God and the Lamb, the spinal medulla. This is the River of living water in Eden – Sex, the Genesiac mist of the earth, the igneous particles ‘Hashim’ within the dust of the ground (Adamah) from where God formed the electronic bodies of Adam, the true human being. |
