or Shabbat (Hebrew שבת) A deep mystery in the Judeo-Christian tradition related to the most holy science of creation, unknown to the uninitiated but celebrated in the weekly holy day (holi-day). In Kabbalah, the mystery of the sephirah Binah. Sabbath is also related to the ancient Saturnalia, a ritual feast. The essence of the Sabbath is sexual purity.

(Sanskrit) Literally means “union” or “combination,” although in context it can have a dizzying number of meanings (see below). Its Tibetan equivalent means “adhering to that which is profound and definitive,” or ting nge dzin, meaning “To hold unwaveringly, so there is no movement.” Related terms include satori, ecstasy, manteia, etc. Samadhi is a state of consciousness. There are many levels of Samadhi.

In Yoga (Sanskrit), Samadhi is the pinnacle of the steps of yoga. In the state of Samadhi, one is free of the limitations of the terrestrial bonds and can commune directly with the spiritual archetypes. Hinduism mentions many types of Samadhi: Jada Samadhi, Chaitanya Samadhi, Asamprajnata Samadhi, Nirvikalpa Samadhi, etc.

"There are seven Sadhanas of Yoga, namely Sat-Karma, Asana, Mudra, Pratyahara, Pranayama, Dhyana and Samadhi, which are cleansing of the body, seat postures for Yoga purposes, the abstraction of the senses from their objects, breath-control, meditation, and ecstasy which is of two kinds—imperfect (Savikalpa) in which dualism is not wholly overcome, and perfect (Nirvikalpa) which is complete Monistic experience–the realisation of the Truth of the Mahavakya AHAM BRAHMASMI—a knowledge in the sense of realisation which, it is to be observed, does not produce Liberation (Moksha) but is Liberation itself. The Samadhi of Laya Yoga is said to be Savikalpa Samadhi and that of complete Raja Yoga is said to be Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The first four processes are physical, last three mental and supramental. By these seven processes respectively certain qualities are gained, namely, purity (Sodhana), firmness and strength (Dridhata), fortitude (Sthirata), steadiness (Dhairya), lightness (Laghava), realisation (Pratyaksha) and detachment leading to Liberation (Nirliptatva)." - Swami Sivananda, Kundalini Yoga

In the west, the term is used to describe an ecstatic state of consciousness in which the Essence escapes the painful limitations of the mind (the “I”) and therefore experiences what is real: the Being, the Great Reality.

In the Buddhist sutras and tantras the term Samadhi has a much broader application whose precise interpretation depends upon which school and teaching is using it.

One Sanskrit dictionary provides the following meanings for Samadhi: 1. Collecting, composing, concentrating. 2. Profound or abstract meditation, concentration of mind on one object, perfect absorption of thought into the one object of meditation, i.e., the Supreme Spirit (the 8th and last stage of Yoga). 3. Intentness, concentration (in general), fixing of thoughts. 4. Penance, religious obligation, devotion (to penance) 5. Bringing together, concentration, combination, collection. 6. Reconciliation, settling or composing differences. 7. Silence. 8. Agreement, assent, promise. 9. Requital. 10. Completion, accomplishment. 11. Perseverance in extreme difficulties. 12. Attempting impossibilities. 13. Laying up corn (in times of famine), storing grain. 14. A tomb. 15. The joint of the neck; a particular position of the neck. 16. (In rhetoric) A figure of speech. 17. One of the ten gunas or merits of style. 18. A religious vow or self-imposed restraint. 19. Support, upholding.

(Hebrew סםאל) A great Archangel who has been assisting humanity for ages. He has been known by many names throughout our history, but he is perhaps best known as Ares, Mars, the God of War. His war is always a spiritual one, the war against the corruption of the human mind. Knowing this helps the reader understand why the writings and teachings of Samael Aun Weor are so direct and so potent.

Samael (Ares) is the great cosmic Intelligence which is responsible for the spiritual development of this current humanity, which has long been known as the “Aryan” (from Ares) race. (Hebrew סםאל צבאות) In Hebrew, the Army of the Voice, the Logos, the Host, or Creative Hostess of the Elohim, receives the name of צבאות Sabaoth or Tzabaoth. Samael Sabaoth is the name of the army or diverse forces of Samael.

Every star is the center of gravity of a particular Logos, a Sabaoth, an Intelligent Host of Creative Forces that manifest within all Kingdoms of Nature. Samael Sabaoth in the human body governs the divine vital essence, principle or substance or animating divine fiery force within sex (Scorpio), this is why it is stated that Samael is the seducing fiery serpent of Eden (Yesod, sex). When the human being fornicates, when the human being becomes enslaved by his own concupiscence (sinning against the Holy Spirit), then (within the fornicator) the fire of Samael becomes the primeval atomic angelic force that rebels against the Divine Forces (the Holy Spirit); then, this creative sexual fire through fornication creates Kain, the "Red Dragon," the Angel of Death. The Talmud states that "the Angel of Death and Satan are the same" (the same sexual principle or creative fire that crystallized in Klipoth, Hell, by means of fornication). The fifteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, it symbolizes the cycle of eternity within the cosmic womb, vulva, or volva (from Latin volvere, “to turn, twist or roll”) where the continuous revolving Light of the Ain Soph is located. Christus-Lucifer originates infinite cosmic possibilities. Samech is the letter that represents the Ouroboros, the eternal cyclical action of the Light-Life-Fire-Wisdom of the Ain Soph; these revolutions of the light of the Absolute manifests as innumerable cycles of death and rebirth at all levels in the universe.

(Sanskrit, "perception") The third skandha, related to the evaluation of the sensations brought by the second skandha.

(Sanskrit; Tibetan khorwa or khor-ba) Cyclic, conditioned existence whose defining characteristic is suffering. It is contrasted with nirvana.

(Sanskrit संस्कार) Saṃskāra literally means "that which has been put together" and "that which puts together." In Hinduism, samskara can refers either to a series of ritual initiations (Sanskar) or more importantly, to formations in the mind, impressions, consequences.

In Buddhism, samskara is the the fourth skandha and the second link in the twelve Nidanas, the chain of dependent origination.

(Hebrew שמשון) A character of renowned strength who features prominently in the Old Testament. He symbolizes the strength of the solar fires (Ens Virtutis in the head) from the waters of sex (Ens Seminis). Samson in Hebrew is pronounced Shemshon, and comes from:

Although modern Christians have made Satan into a cartoon character, the reality is very different. Read the Book of Job in the Bible to see that Satan serves God, and can only do what יהוה allows him to do.

Within us, Satan is the fallen Lucifer, who is born within the psyche of every human being by means of the sexual impulse that culminates in the orgasm or sexual spasm of the fornicators. Satan, the fallen Lucifer, directs the lustful animal currents towards the atomic infernos of the human being, thus it becomes the profoundly evil adversary of our Innermost (God) and human values within our own psyche. This is why it is often identified with the leader of the fallen angels or fallen human values (parts) of our consciousness trapped within the animal mind (legions of Egos, defects, vices of the mind) in other words, Satan is the Devil or "evil" adversary of God "Good" that every body carries within their own psychological interior. The spiritual aspirant has to conquer Satan and transform him back into Lucifer, which is Latin for "bearer of Light."

(Japanese)  Ecstasy. Samadhi. The experience of reality, which is beyond the mind.

(Hebrew שמים) Literally "superior waters" but translated in the Bible as "heaven." Schamyim is ש fire and מים water, which is the divine fiery water, which is the fiery outflow of Solar Energy, the flaming river pouring from the Ain Soph Aur in the presence of Iod-Havah Elohim in Daath.

An exercise of attention, in which one learns to become an indifferent observer of one's own psychological process. True Self-observation is an active work of directed attention, without the interference of thought, emotion, or sensations.

The achievement of perfect knowledge. This phrase is better stated as, “The realization of the Innermost Self,” or “The realization of the true nature of self.” At the ultimate level, this is the experiential, conscious knowledge of the Absolute, which is synonymous with Emptiness, Shunyata, or Non-being.

A state of active consciousness, controlled by will, that begins with awareness of being here and now.  This state has many levels (see: Consciousness). True Self-remembering occurs without thought or mental processing: it is a state of conscious perception and includes the remembrance of the inner Being.

"It is necessary to annihilate desire if we want to avoid the danger of falling. One who wants to annihilate desire must discover the causes of it. The causes of desire are found in sensations. We live in a world of sensations, and we need to comprehend them. There are five types of sensations:

1. Visual sensations

Since the fundamental concepts of the Sensual Mind are based on external sensory data, undoubtedly, it can know nothing about what is real, about the truth, about the mysteries of life and death, about the Soul and the Spirit, etc. For the rogues of the intellect, totally trapped by their external senses and incarcerated within the basic concepts of the Sensual Mind, our esoteric studies are lunacy. In the reasoning of the unreasonable, in an insane world, they are right due to conditioning by the external sensory world. 1. According to the Kabbalah, Seraphim is a being related to the sephirah Geburah.

2. According to Christianity, a Seraphim is the highest type of angel, related to the sephirah Kether.

 

A ubiquitous symbol throughout world religions and mythology, which always has one of two primary meanings. The serpent or snake represents either a negative intelligence (cunning) or a positive intelligence (wisdom). There are far too many examples to cite here, but significant ones include the Biblical serpent of Eden; the Bronze Serpent of Moses; the Greek serpent of the Hesperides and the dreaded Python; the Buddhist serpent that protected the Buddha; and the Egyptian serpents (both positive and negative).

“Lo and behold, since Esau followed on the serpent, Jacob dealt with him slyly, as the serpent was cunning and had crooked ways. As it is written, "the serpent was more cunning than any beast” (Genesis 3:1), which means that Esau was cunning and sly (Genesis 25: 27: “And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter”). Yet, what Jacob did with Esau was serpent-like. This was as it ought to have been; by making Esau go after that serpent, so that he would be separated from Jacob, and thus share nothing with him in this world or in the world to come.” – Zohar

These are the Great Mysteries, or Seven Initiations of Major Mysteries, which are the beginning stages of the First Mountain, the Mountain of Initiation. Any initiate who completes the Serpents of Fire AND chooses to continue by walking on the Direct Path then enters into the second half of the First Mountain. The Christ is born inside the initiate, who then begins to illuminate each of the seven bodies of the soul (the spinal column of each body is filled with the Light of the Christ).

A symbol of the degrees of initiation. There are two cycles of seven serpents each. See the Serpents of Fire and the Serpents of Light.

"The Temple of Wisdom has seven columns. These are the Seven Degrees of the Power of the Fire. There are seven serpents, two groups of three plus the coronation of the sublime seventh tongue of fire, which unites us with the One, with the Law, with the Father. The first serpent belongs to the physical body, the second to the Vital Body, the third to the Astral Body, the fourth to the Mental Body, the fifth to the Body of Willpower, the sixth to the Buddhic Body and the seventh to the Intimate. (or Sakti; from Sanskrit, literally "force, power, energy") Symbolized as the wife of Shiva, the Third Logos, the sephirah Binah. The feminine aspect of Binah. A personification of primal energy. Symbolized by a yoni, a female sexual organ.

"Sakti is symbolically female; but It is, in reality, neither male nor female. It is only a Force which manifests Itself in various forms." - Swami Sivananda

(Samatha) Tranquility Meditation. Sha in Sanskrit means “peace.” Mata means “dwelling” or “stability.” Samatha means “to dwell or to be founded, to have establishment in peace, to dwell in peace.” This is the same as Pratyahara. The term Shamata is also related to the Tibetan shi-ne which means “peace.” Samatha is one-pointed mind, or the varying levels of concentrated attention. According to the Maitreya Buddha, there are nine distinct levels of Shamata.

(7th-8th century) An Indian Buddhist Master and teacher of the Madhyamaka Prasangika school.  His most famous work, the Bodhicharyavatara ("The Bodhisattva Way of Life") is perhaps the most popular and widely read text of Mahayana Buddhism. 

"The Hebrew word for seven is sheba. Seven is very significant in the economy of God. It is the most frequently used number in the Bible. From it is shaba, meaning, "to be complete... to seven oneself, i.e. swear (as if by repeating a declaration seven times)" Seven speaks of fullness, completion, perfection. Nothing can be added to or taken from it without it becoming marred. Being a prime number makes it divisible only by itself. The word shabath is derived from shaba, and means, to cease, desist, REST, and from this word comes Shabbath, a DAY OF REST. Therefore, seven/sheba/shabbath speaks of a completed work wherein rest (death) is found.”

Shechinah means "Indwelling Presence."  Shechinah is the feminine Divine force of God. She is the Divine Mother whose essence, feminine force or creative force is in exile (not active in us). She is the creative force of God that abides in the Chakra Muladhara. The Divine Mother Kundalini is the erotic, sensual chaste loving force underlying within the Church of Ephesus, whose veil covers the mystery of Daath. She is the fiery power within every Elohim.

The exile of the Shechinah means the exile from the chaste powers of the Kundalini by means of Fornication and the falling into Klipoth through the Kundabuffer.

Also spelled Shechinah, Shekhinah, Shekina, Shechina, Schechinah, etc. (Hebrew שכינה) Literally means "dwelling place." A feminine noun. In Kabbalah, the שכינה is the feminine aspect of God (the Divine Mother) that inhabits the temple when Israel is in harmony with God.

(Hebrew השם המפורש = "Hashem Hamephorash") The “separated name,” or the “name of extension, or "the blessed name.” Specifically, a name of God that has 72 aspects and is hidden in the original Hebrew of Exodus 14:19-21. It is said that there are two versions: one positive, corresponding to White Magic, and one negative, corresponding to Black Magic. It is also the Cubic stone of Yesod, the stone that Jacob anointed with oil and "a Stone of stumbling, a rock of offense." Nicolas Valois: “It is a Stone of great virtue, and is called a Stone and is not a stone.” It is the Serpentine Fire of the Holy Spirit.

[ש] The twenty-first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It symbolizes fire. The shape of shin displays the three fires or three Iods (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), the Holy Triamazikamno, the three wicks (three Vavs) within the Nun or Divine Essence of God (El-Shaddai). Its Kabbalistic numerical value is 300. Shin is one of the three mother letters (אמש).

A multifacted symbol in the Hindu pantheon. 

"Lord Siva is the pure, changeless, attributeless, all-pervading transcendental consciousness.... At the end of Pralaya, the Supreme Lord thinks of re-creation of the world. He is then known by the name Sadasiva. He is the root-cause of creation. From Sadasiva creation begins... [Additionally,] Lord Siva represents the destructive aspect of Brahman... He is an embodiment of Truth, Beauty, Goodness and Bliss. He is Satyam, Sivam, Subham, Sundaram, Kantam. He is the God of gods, Deva-Deva. The Hindu Creator and Destroyer, the third aspect of the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva). The Third Logos. The Holy Spirit. The Sexual Force. The Sephira Binah. Symbolized by a Linga / lingum, a male sexual organ.

(Sanskrit, "hearer") In the Buddhist tradition, one of the three types of spiritual trainees. The shravakas are those who "hear" the teachings and seek enlightenment for themselves, thus they are working in the foundational levels of the path.

(Sanskrit, literally "vehicle of the hearers") Refers to the foundational path, or the first of the three vehicles (yanas).

(Sanskrit) A name for the semi-physical channel (nadi) of energy in the spinal column. In TIbetan Buddhism, it is called uma.

"When we study the construction, location and function of the Spinal Cord and the Sushumna Nadi, we can readily say that the Spinal Cord was called Sushumna Nadi by the Yogins of yore. The Western Anatomy deals with the gross form and functions of the Spinal Cord, while the Yogins of ancient times dealt with all about the subtle (Sukshma) nature. Now in Kundalini Yoga, you should have a thorough knowledge of this Nadi. Sushumna extends from the Muladhara Chakra (second vertebra of coccygeal region) to Brahmarandhra. The Western Anatomy admits that there is a central canal in the Spinal Cord, called Canalis Centralis and that the cord is made up of grey and white brain-matter. Spinal Cord is dropped or suspended in the hollow of the spinal column. In the same way, Sushumna is dropped within the spinal canal and has subtle sections." - Swami Sivananda, Kundalini Yoga

 

("The Perfect Pose") A seated posture for meditation or Alchemy. It is described by Swami Sivananda as follows: "Next to Padmasana comes Siddhasana in importance. Some eulogise this Asana as even superior to Padmasana for purposes of Dhyana. If you get mastery over this Asana, you will acquire many Siddhis. Further it was being practised by many Siddhas of yore. Hence the name Siddhasana. Even fatty persons with big thighs can practise this Asana easily. In fact this is better to some persons than Padmasana. Young Brahmacharins who attempt to get established in celibacy should practise this Asana. This Asana is not suitable for ladies. Place one heel at anus. Keep the other heel on the root of the generative organ. The feet or legs should be so nicely arranged that the ankle-joints should touch each other. Hands can be placed as in Padmasana."

The Astral World.

(Gnostic) A very powerful Gnostic teacher who unfortunately fell into black magic.

"Simon Magus, the magician of New Testament fame, is often supposed to have been the founder of Gnosticism. If this be true, the sect was formed during the century after Christ and is probably the first of the many branches which have sprung from the main trunk of Christianity. Everything with which the enthusiasts of the early Christian Church might not agree they declared to be inspired by the Devil. That Simon Magus had mysterious and supernatural powers is conceded even by his enemies, but they maintained that these powers were lent to him by the infernal spirits and furies which they asserted were his ever present companions. Undoubtedly the most interesting legend concerning Simon is that which tells of his theosophic contests with the Apostle Peter while the two were promulgating their differing doctrines in Rome [See: The Acts of Peter and Paul]." - Manly P. "Evilness is so fine and delicate that even the Master H. P. Blavatsky firmly believed that Simon the Magician was a Master of the White Lodge. Master Huiracocha [Arnold Krumm-Heller] also believed that Simon the Magician was a great Gnostic Master, and he told us that everything that ‘Papus’ and other authors have taught in the past years about magic was taken from Simon the Magician. The only one who was not mistaken with respect to Simon the Magician was Dante Alighieri in his Divine Comedy. [...] Simon the Magician profoundly knew about Sexual Alchemy and the Great Arcanum. However, he fell into black magic because he continued to look into the past and he did not want to accept Christ." - Samael Aun Weor, Treatise of Sexual Alchemy

Born in 1887 in the village of Pattamadai on the bank of the river Tamraparani in South India. He was named Kuppuswamy, and became a doctor who through his practice in Malaysia, actively served all levels of society. Once a Sadhu gave him a book "Jiva Brahma Aikyam" by Sri Swami Satchidananda. It ignited the dormant spirituality in him. He began to study the books of Swami Rama Tirtha, Swami Vivekananda, Sankara, Imitation of Christ, the Bible, and literature of the Theosophical Society. He was very regular in his daily worship, prayer and Yoga Asanas. Study of sacred scriptures like the Gita, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata, and the Ramayana was done with great devotion. Sometimes he conducted Nandan Charitam and sang Bhajans and Kirtans. He practiced Anahat Laya Yoga and Swara Sadhana. He renounced worldly life, wandered across India, and took the vows of a renunciate (sanyasa) in Rishekesh, acquiring the spiritual name Swami Sivananda Saraswati. Swami Sivananda dressed to clothe himself, ate to live, and lived to serve humanity. A small dilapidated Kutir (hut), not resorted to by others and infested with scorpions, protected him from rain and sun. Living in that Kutir, he did intense Tapas (austerities), observed silence, and fasted. Often he fasted for days on end. He would keep a good stock of bread in his room, and for a week have this, together with Ganges water. He would stand up to the hips in the ice-cold Ganges in winter mornings and commence his mantra practice, coming out only when the sun appeared. He would spend more than twelve hours in daily meditation. With all his intense Tapas, Swamiji did not neglect service of the sick. He visited the huts of the Sadhus with medicines, served them, and shampooed their legs. He begged food on their behalf and fed them with his own hands when they fell sick. He brought water from the Ganges and washed their Kutirs. He attended upon cholera and smallpox cases. If necessary, he kept vigil through the night by the side of the bed of the ailing Sadhu. He carried sick persons on his back to the hospital. With some money from his insurance policy that had matured, Swamiji started a charitable dispensary at Lakshmanjula in 1927. Swamiji practiced all the various Yogas and studied the scriptures. After years of intense and unbroken practice, he enjoyed the bliss of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Swami Sivananda radiated his divine and lofty message of service, meditation and God-realization to all parts of the world through his books, running to more than three hundred, through periodicals and letters. His devoted disciples are drawn from all religions, cults and creeds in the world. He founded several organizations, all dedicated to the service of humanity. Swami Sivananda's Yoga, which he has significantly called the 'Yoga of Synthesis', effects a harmonious development of the 'hand', 'head' and 'heart' through the practice of Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. On the 14th of July 1963, the Great Soul Swami Sivananda entered Mahasamadhi (departure of a Self-realized saint from his mortal coil) in his Kutir on the bank of Ganga, in Shivanandanagar. The race of humanity which will arise after the destruction of the current (Fifth) Root Race, which is at the end of its cycle.

(Sanskrit; Tibetan: phung po) Literally “group, pile, aggregate, heap.” A general term of Buddhist philosophy describing the basic faculties of a sentient being or “personality.”

1. Corporeality or form (rupa)
2. Sensation (vedana)
3. Perception (samjana)
4. Mental Formations (samskara)
5. Consciousness (vijnana)

Each aggregate is composed of a combination of factors and parts, which implies that it does not have independent existence. This is the basis for the Buddhist argument that there is no independently existing self.

The Skandhas relate to five lower bodies or sephiroth.

1. Physical Body (Malkuth)
2. Ethereal Body (Yesod; made of four ethers and vibrating with Tattvic energy)
3. Lunar Astral/Emotional Body (Hod): the body of desires
   
4. Lunar Mental Body (Netzach)
5. Essence or Consciousness (Tiphereth)

It is said in Buddhism that our suffering comes from the attachments and cravings that reside within the skandhas, or in other words, the egos live within the psyche of the terrestrial man. The bodies of the soul (skandhas) must be cleaned and purified through alchemical birth and psychological death. This work is done by the Cosmic Christ within the Bodhisattva, as clearly symbolized in the Prajnaparamita Sutra:

The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Cosmic Christ)
while moving in the deep course of Perfect Understanding (Binah)
shed light on the five Skandhas (the light of transmuted fire)
and found them equally empty [of self]. (because the fire destroys the egos)
After this penetration, he overcame all pain. (Resurrection)

"When the serpent ascends to the height of the prostate (uterus), the Church of Smyrna is opened. This chakra has six petals and confers the powers of creation. Creation is not possible without the prostatic chakra. The supreme rector of the prostatic Chakra is the immortal Babaji, a Yogi Christ from India whose physical body has existed for millions of years that are lost in the night of time. A reference to the sacred vehicle(s) that the initiate must construct in order to ascend into the superior worlds. Various traditions number them differently depending upon the point of view. The physical, vital, astral, mental, and causal bodies that are created through the beginning stages of Alchemy/Tantra and that provide a basis for existence in their corresponding levels of nature, just as the physical body does in the physical world. These bodies or vehicles are superior due to being created out of Solar (Christic) Energy, as opposed to the inferior, lunar bodies we receive from nature. Also known as the Wedding Garment (Christianity), the Merkabah (Kabbalah), To Soma Heliakon (Greek), and Sahu (Egyptian).

This term has a variety of applications and two primary derviations: First, it is the name of the sacred drink of the Gods according to ancient Indian religious texts. The word soma means "to press," and refers to a drink made of the juice of a plant. This drink is related to the god Chandra "the bright," who is related to the Moon. (Chandra is often mistakenly called Soma). It was said that it was the force of Chandra the Moon that gave life to all animals, Gods, humans and spirits. (This is very interesting to consider in light of what Samael Aun Weor taught regarding the Selenite humanity, which inhabited the Moon in the previous Age). The second primary derivation is from the Greek, in which soma means "body." This word refers to the body and mind as one, and is the root of many terms, such as "psycho-soma-tic." In the context of the teachings of Samael Aun Weor, soma also refers to the moon and is a symbol of the woman. In modern times, the term is used to refer to hallucenogenic substances.

The modern definition and usage of this word is filled with contradictions, misconceptions, and misuse. In Gnosis (the heart of all religions), the meaning is very precise. The English word comes from the Old English sawol, meaning the "spiritual and emotional part of a person."

In Kabbalah, the spiritual and emotional part of the person is related to the sephiroth Hod (emotion), Netzach (mind), Tiphereth (will; Human Soul), and Geburah (consciousness; Divine Soul). Furthermore, these sephiroth undergo stages of growth, explained as five types or levels of soul: nephesh, neshemah, ruach, chaiah, and yechidah.

In Hinduism and Buddhism, the word soul is usually related to the Sanskrit word Atman, defined as "self." (See Atman for more information). Yet, this word has been misinterpreted for centuries.

Gnosis agrees with the teaching of the Buddha that explains that there is no permanent, eternally existing element beyond the body that defines a person. Gnosis teaches us that the soul - even when created and refined - is merely a vehicle, and as such is impermanent.

In reality, the common person does not have a "soul" yet; they have the essence or seed of the soul, which must be grown through the "second birth." As Jesus explained, "With patience ye shall possess thy souls." (Luke 21) Thus, the development of the soul is the mere beginning of the path to full development. Afterward, there are far greater works to accomplish.

The term "soul" should not be confused with "spirit," which refers to a higher aspect of the Innermost (Atman or Chesed).

The path of gradual spiritual development chosen by the Pratyeka Buddhas. Such beings have developed the soul but not eliminated the ego. They are called saints, angels, buddhas, etc. but are not one hundred percent awakened. The Spiral Path is in stark contrast to the very difficult Straight Path (or Path of the Bodhisattva), chosen by very few, because it requires the rapid and complete elimination of all ego (karma). The pseudo-religions or doctrines which state that the Masters, Prophets, and Angels of the beyond communicate with the living through mediumistic practices by means of Mediums / Channelers. Many of these groups are now called "New Age" movements. Most proclaim to teach the "channeled" messages of St. Germain, Jesus Christ, Moria, even Samael or other such Masters.

In general, the term "spiritualism" is used by Samael Aun Weor to denote any person or group who fails to verify the authenticity of their teachings through practice and direct experience. Thus, even many so-called Gnostic devotees are "spiritualists" who fall into the trap of believing the proclamations of pseudo-clairvoyant Gnostics who are misled by their own misinterpreted inner visions.

Spiritualism can also refer to the studies that deal with our inner psychological nature, namely ethical or moral spiritual values.

(1861-1925) Rudolf Steiner was born in the part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that is modern day Croatia to a German-speaking middle-class family. In childhood he showed great precocity, teaching himself geometry at the age of eight and absorbing the fundamentals of philosophy, geography, calculus, Latin and Greek by the age of 15. Steiner took a degree in physics, chemistry and mathematics while simultaneously attending lectures in literature and philosophy at the University of Vienna. -In addition to his interest in scientific and philosophical knowledge, Steiner also “complained” of being clairvoyant from early childhood, and by his early twenties had begun to develop his own philosophy of spiritual science, in which he sought to present a scientific, empirical approach to metaphysical considerations. Influenced by the spiritual writings of Goethe, the first of numerous publications on a variety of topics now appeared – Truth and Knowledge, The Philosophy of Freedom, Goethe’s Conception of the World – texts which were to form the basis of Steiner’s later influential work in education, medicine, agriculture and social science. Steiner went on to conduct hundreds of public and private lectures on diverse topics all over Europe. A large number of these lectures were transcribed and published. His multi-faceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, science, education (Waldorf schools), special education, philosophy, religion, economics, agriculture (Bio-Dynamic method), architecture, drama, the new art of eurythmy, and other fields. In 1925 he founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which today has branches throughout the world.

The Direct Path to the Absolute, also called the Path of the Bodhisattva. This spiritual path is very revolutionary and is rejected by humanity, the saints, and the demons. Very few enter the Straight Path, because it requires the complete and rapid elimination of all ego (karma). To enter the Straight Path, one must first reach the Fifth Initiation of Fire (Tiphereth). (plural: succubi) a creature of female form who has sexual intercourse with men in their dreams and fantasies. Etymology: Middle English, from Medieval Latin, alteration of Latin succuba paramour, from succubare to lie under, from sub- + cubare to lie, recline.

"The terms incubus and succubus have been applied indiscriminately by the Church Fathers to elementals. The incubus and succubus, however, are evil and unnatural creations, whereas elementals is a collective term for all the inhabitants of the four elemental essences. According to Paracelsus, the incubus and succubus (which are male and female respectively) are parasitical creatures subsisting upon the evil thoughts and emotions of the astral body. These terms are also applied to the superphysical organisms of sorcerers and black magicians. While these larvæ are in no sense imaginary beings, they are, nevertheless, the offspring of the imagination. By the ancient sages they were recognized as the invisible cause of vice because they hover in the ethers surrounding the morally weak and continually incite them to excesses of a degrading nature. For this reason they frequent the atmosphere of the dope den, the dive, and the brothel, where they attach themselves to those unfortunates who have given themselves up to iniquity. By permitting his senses to become deadened through indulgence in habit-forming drugs or alcoholic stimulants, the individual becomes temporarily en rapport with these denizens of the astral plane. In Buddhism, the Four Noble Truths explain the basis of spiritual pursuit:

"It is through not understanding, not realizing four things, that I, Disciples, as well as you, had to wander so long through this round of rebirths. And what are these four things? They are the Noble Truth of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Extinction of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Path that leads to the Extinction of Suffering."

It is said that there are three types of suffering:

1. Suffering of suffering: mental and physical pain which is suffered by all beings.
2. Suffering of change.
3. Suffering of conditioning: psychophysical aggregates = contaminated actions and delusions.

“Nirvana” or liberation is the release from suffering.

"Only a tremendous revolution can save us from the abyss. When the human being dissolves the “I,” then there is a complete revolution. The human being will stop suffering only when he will be capable of dissolving the “I,” since pain is nothing more than the result of our evil deeds. Two centers of psychological activity only accessible to those who have created the Solar Bodies related to them: the Superior Emotional Center (related to the Solar Astral Body) and the Superior Intellectual Center (related to the Solar Mental Body).

The Solar Astral, Solar Mental and Solar Causal Bodies. These superior vehicles are created through the Initiatic processes of Alchemy, and provide the means to function and exist within the superior worlds.

The term Superman first appeared in English in 1903 when George Bernard Shaw translated the German Übermensch, "highly evolved human being that transcends good and evil," from "Thus Spake Zarathustra" (1883-91), by Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900). This term refers to a type of human being far beyond the ordinary person.

In general, there are three types of human beings:

1. The ordinary person (called human being out of respect): the intellectual animal

2. The true Human Being or Man (from manas, mind): someone who has created the Soul (the Solar Bodies, symbolized as the chariot of Ezekiel or Krishna, the Wedding Garment of Jesus, the sacred weapons of the heroes of mythology, etc. Such persons are Saints, Masters, or Buddhas of various levels.

3. The Superman: a true Human Being who has also incarnated the Cosmic Christ, thus going beyond mere Sainthood or Buddhahood, and into the highest reaches of liberation. These are the founders of religions, the destroyers of dogmas and traditions, the great rebels of spiritual light.

"The masses qualify the Superman as perverse for the very fact that he does not fit in with indisputable dogmas, neither within pious phrases, nor within the upright morality of seri- ous people. People abhor the Superman. They crucify him amongst criminals because they do not understand him, because they prejudge him, viewing him through the psychological lenses of what is believed to be holy, even if it is evil. The Superman is like a flash of lightening which falls over the perverse, or like the brilliance of something which is not understood and which is later lost in mystery. The Superman is not a saint, nor is he perverse; he is beyond sanctity and perversity. Nevertheless, people qualify him as holy or perverse. (Sanskrit; also known as Jnanakaya) The Essence-Kaya, the Essence-Body that is formed by liberating the kayas of light that which the Hebrews call "Igneous Particles", "Hashim" (literally, "the fires") or "Igneous Souls”, from the skandhas (psychological aggregates). It is the body of liberation, the Rainbow Body. The Svabhavikakaya is counted as the Fourth Kaya, it is the receptacle of the three Solar Kayas, or the unity or non-separateness of the three kayas. In other teachings, it is called theomertmalogos.

"From age to age the vision of a perfect civilization is preserved as the ideal for mankind. In the midst of that civilization shall stand a mighty university wherein both the sacred and secular sciences concerning the mysteries of life will be freely taught to all who will assume the philosophic life. Here creed and dogma will have no place; the superficial will be removed and only the essential be preserved. The world will be ruled by its most illumined minds, and each will occupy the position for which he is most admirably fitted. The great university will be divided into grades, admission to which will be through preliminary tests or initiations.
