| Sabaoth |
(Hebrew צבאות “tsebha’oth”): An army or host, from Saba, “to go to war.” See Isa. 1.9; Rom. 9.29; James 5.4; translated in the Bible as “Lord of Hosts” or “Almighty.” |
| Sabbath |
or Shabbat (Hebrew שבת) A deep mystery in the Judeo-Christian tradition related to the most holy science of creation, unknown to the uninitiated but celebrated in the weekly holy day (holi-day). In Kabbalah, the mystery of the sephirah Binah. Sabbath is also related to the ancient Saturnalia, a ritual feast. The essence of the Sabbath is sexual purity. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates: For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." - Exodus 20 "Remember the Shabbat day, to keep it holy" (Shemot 20:8). This is the secret of the Holy Covenant, which is Yesod, for in this Covenant lie all the sources of the limbs of the body, and it comprises everything. In the same manner, the Shabbat day includes all the Torah, all of its secrets originate in it. And he who keeps the Shabbat is considered as one who keeps the whole Torah." - Zohar |
| Sacred Order of Tibet |
The genuine depository of the royal treasury of Aryabarta. Formed by 201 members, with its major rank formed by 72 Brahmans. The ancient organization is led by Bhagavan Aclaiva. |
| Sacrifice |
One of the three primary factors of any genuine mystical or religious teaching, the other two being Birth and Death. In Hebrew, "sacrifice" is קרבן and comes from קרב meaning to "come close or draw near to God." "The one lamb (Heb. keves) you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer towards evening" (Shemot 29:39 and Bemidbar 28:4). And about the secrets (Heb. Kavshi) of the Merciful One, the sages have taught: 'Why do you probe into the secrets of the Merciful One?', the meaning of which is: Matters that are of the mysteries of the world, let them be concealed under your dress. Just as clothes cover the body, so also must the secrets of the Torah be kept covered up, and this applies even more to the secret of the sacrifices, which are like a wife drawing near to her husband, which is what a sacrifice is called 'KORBAN', from the same root as the word kirvah, meaning nearness." - Zohar "Jesus answered and said unto them, Well hath Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own traditions. For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Whosoever curse father or mother, let him die the (second) death: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Korban [קרבן], that is to say, a gift (offering), by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect through your traditions, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. - Mark 7 |

| Samadhi |
(Sanskrit) Literally means “union” or “combination,” although in context it can have a dizzying number of meanings (see below). Its Tibetan equivalent means “adhering to that which is profound and definitive,” or ting nge dzin, meaning “To hold unwaveringly, so there is no movement.” Related terms include satori, ecstasy, manteia, etc. Samadhi is a state of consciousness. There are many levels of Samadhi. In Yoga (Sanskrit), Samadhi is the pinnacle of the steps of yoga. In the state of Samadhi, one is free of the limitations of the terrestrial bonds and can commune directly with the spiritual archetypes. Hinduism mentions many types of Samadhi: Jada Samadhi, Chaitanya Samadhi, Asamprajnata Samadhi, Nirvikalpa Samadhi, etc. "There are seven Sadhanas of Yoga, namely Sat-Karma, Asana, Mudra, Pratyahara, Pranayama, Dhyana and Samadhi, which are cleansing of the body, seat postures for Yoga purposes, the abstraction of the senses from their objects, breath-control, meditation, and ecstasy which is of two kinds—imperfect (Savikalpa) in which dualism is not wholly overcome, and perfect (Nirvikalpa) which is complete Monistic experience–the realisation of the Truth of the Mahavakya AHAM BRAHMASMI—a knowledge in the sense of realisation which, it is to be observed, does not produce Liberation (Moksha) but is Liberation itself. The Samadhi of Laya Yoga is said to be Savikalpa Samadhi and that of complete Raja Yoga is said to be Nirvikalpa Samadhi. The first four processes are physical, last three mental and supramental. By these seven processes respectively certain qualities are gained, namely, purity (Sodhana), firmness and strength (Dridhata), fortitude (Sthirata), steadiness (Dhairya), lightness (Laghava), realisation (Pratyaksha) and detachment leading to Liberation (Nirliptatva)." - Swami Sivananda, Kundalini Yoga In the west, the term is used to describe an ecstatic state of consciousness in which the Essence escapes the painful limitations of the mind (the “I”) and therefore experiences what is real: the Being, the Great Reality. "Ecstasy is not a nebulous state, but a transcendental state of wonderment, which is associated with perfect mental clarity." - Samael Aun Weor, The Elimination of Satan's Tail In the Buddhist sutras and tantras the term Samadhi has a much broader application whose precise interpretation depends upon which school and teaching is using it. One Sanskrit dictionary provides the following meanings for Samadhi: 1. Collecting, composing, concentrating. 2. Profound or abstract meditation, concentration of mind on one object, perfect absorption of thought into the one object of meditation, i.e., the Supreme Spirit (the 8th and last stage of Yoga). 3. Intentness, concentration (in general), fixing of thoughts. 4. Penance, religious obligation, devotion (to penance) 5. Bringing together, concentration, combination, collection. 6. Reconciliation, settling or composing differences. 7. Silence. 8. Agreement, assent, promise. 9. Requital. 10. Completion, accomplishment. 11. Perseverance in extreme difficulties. 12. Attempting impossibilities. 13. Laying up corn (in times of famine), storing grain. 14. A tomb. 15. The joint of the neck; a particular position of the neck. 16. (In rhetoric) A figure of speech. 17. One of the ten gunas or merits of style. 18. A religious vow or self-imposed restraint. 19. Support, upholding. |
| Samael |
(Hebrew סםאל) A great Archangel who has been assisting humanity for ages. He has been known by many names throughout our history, but he is perhaps best known as Ares, Mars, the God of War. His war is always a spiritual one, the war against the corruption of the human mind. Knowing this helps the reader understand why the writings and teachings of Samael Aun Weor are so direct and so potent. Samael (Ares) is the great cosmic Intelligence which is responsible for the spiritual development of this current humanity, which has long been known as the “Aryan” (from Ares) race. (Unfortunately, this term “Aryan Race” has been corrupted by many ignorant people.) Therefore, he needed his terrestrial part to work here in the physical world on behalf of humanity. His son, the bodhisattva Samael Aun Weor, fell into disgrace for many centuries, and committed many mistakes. Due to this, the esotericists of past ages knew him as a great demon. Subsequently, the bodhisattva was brought to realize his mistakes, and he worked very hard to rectify them. Now, Samael, the inner Being, has his son standing upright once more, and he was able to deliver his teachings to humanity. "I ended up transforming myself into a fallen angel. Many egos resurged within my mind and I became transformed into a true devil. Now, in this present existence, I comprehend the necessity of eliminating my egos, the necessity of performing the Great Work of the Father. Therefore, this is why today I am here speaking to you all, with my hand placed on my heart. Samael Aun Weor is my true name as a Bodhisattva. Samael is the name of my Monad! - Samael Aun Weor Learn more: The Name Samael |
| Samael Aun Weor |
(Hebrew סםאל און ואור) "Samael Aun Weor is the authentic name of a flame of the great blaze, before whom I must prostrate myself. Samael Aun Weor means “Will of God...” - Samael Aun Weor, The Zodiacal Course "His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood; and his name is called The Word of God.” - Revelation 19:12-13 "The name of my Real Being is hidden within the name “Word of God” because the Bible is highly symbolic. God is represented with the monosyllable “Aun” or “Aum.” Word or Verb is within “Weor,” which is pronounced Veor, so the W is the V sound. This W together with the remaining three letters (e-r-o) of Verb and Word form “Weor.” Thus, we have the name Aun Weor (Aum Weor, Aum Word, God Word) hidden within the phrase “Word of God.” - Samael Aun Weor, The Revolution of Beelzebub Learn more: The Name Samael Aun Weor |
| Samael Sabaoth |
(Hebrew סםאל צבאות) In Hebrew, the Army of the Voice, the Logos, the Host, or Creative Hostess of the Elohim, receives the name of צבאות Sabaoth or Tzabaoth. Samael Sabaoth is the name of the army or diverse forces of Samael. Every star is the center of gravity of a particular Logos, a Sabaoth, an Intelligent Host of Creative Forces that manifest within all Kingdoms of Nature. Samael Sabaoth in the human body governs the divine vital essence, principle or substance or animating divine fiery force within sex (Scorpio), this is why it is stated that Samael is the seducing fiery serpent of Eden (Yesod, sex). When the human being fornicates, when the human being becomes enslaved by his own concupiscence (sinning against the Holy Spirit), then (within the fornicator) the fire of Samael becomes the primeval atomic angelic force that rebels against the Divine Forces (the Holy Spirit); then, this creative sexual fire through fornication creates Kain, the "Red Dragon," the Angel of Death. The Talmud states that "the Angel of Death and Satan are the same" (the same sexual principle or creative fire that crystallized in Klipoth, Hell, by means of fornication). Samael Sabaoth in Aries is the Warrior, the Knight equal to Michael, the slayer of his own shadow, Satan (the sexual creative fire crystallized in Klipoth, Hell) as well as St. George, who is also a Dragon Slayer. We must alchemically comprehend the Seven Centers of the Human Machine, since the fire of Samael is directly related with the Fifth Center, the Sexual Center. The Seven Centers are connected to the spinal medulla; the Fifth, the Sexual Center, is directly related with the transformation of the Scorpio creative sexual fires of Samael, the Fifth Spirit before the Throne of God (the central nervous system). |

In Hinduism, samskara can refers either to a series of ritual initiations (Sanskar) or more importantly, to formations in the mind, impressions, consequences. "Vritti (whirlpool, thought-wave) arises in the mind-ocean. It operates for sometime. Then it sinks below the threshold of normal consciousness. From the surface of the conscious mind wherein it was uppermost for some time, it sinks down deep into the region of the subconscious mind (Chitta). There, it continues to be a subliminal action and becomes a Samskara (impression). A conscious action-whether cognitive, affective or conative-assumes a potential and hidden (Sukshma and Avyakta) form just below the threshold of consciousness. This is termed a Samskara." - Swami Sivananda, Mind - Its Mysteries and Control "Those who have not eliminated the Abhayan Samskara, the innate fear, will flee from the Ninth Sphere by telling to others that the work in the forge of the Cyclops (sex) is worthless." - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot & Kabbalah; Cosmic Teachings of a Lama In Buddhism, samskara is the the fourth skandha and the second link in the twelve Nidanas, the chain of dependent origination. |

In the light of Gnostic Kabbalah, Samson is read as follows: The two letters "Shin - Fire" are the two fires, Ida and Pingala, Ob and Od, Yin and Yan that give the strength, the might of "El Shaddai" that emerges from the sexual waters (the letter "Mem" between the two "Shins") in the sexual act! |

Sanat Kumara gives the esoteric initiation of the Astral Solar Body." - Samael Aun Weor, Tarot and Kabbalah "Sanat Kumara, the founder of the Great College of Initiates of the White Lodge, is another living Christ." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony "Let us remember Sanat Kumara, the Ancient of Days, the great immolate, the founder of the College of Initiates of the great White Lodge. This adept lives in the Gobi desert in an isolated oasis. The body of this great Being is more than 18 million years old. With him, in the same oasis, live a group of adepts with immortal Lemurian bodies. All these adepts travel through the superior dimensions of space with their physical bodies. They have the power to tele-transport themselves with their physical bodies through the fourth or fifth dimensions. They all exercise power over the Angels of Death. They are the adepts of the mysteries of life and death. They have all had to work with the Great Arcanum." - Samael Aun Weor, Beyond Death (The Book of the Dead) |
| Sanctity |
Sacredness or holiness. While we have anger, lust, envy, pride and all the other moral defects, we are not sanctified. To acheive sanctity we must eliminate our psychological defects. "To speak of sanctity in these times is something very difficult because the world is full of stupidly sanctimonious persons who presume to be saints." - Samael Aun Weor, The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |

| Sardis |
One of the seven churches mentioned in the Christian book of Revelation. "When the Kundalini has risen to the region of the larynx it grants the power of hearing the voices of those beings that live in the supra-sensible worlds. The Church of Sardis is in the chakra of the larynx; this chakra has sixteen petals. When the Kundalini reaches this height, it flourishes upon our fertile lips made verb." - Samael Aun Weor, The Yellow Book |
| Satan |
(Hebrew שטן, opposer, or adversary) "And שטן [Satan] stood up against Israel..." - 1 Chronicles 21:1 Although modern Christians have made Satan into a cartoon character, the reality is very different. Read the Book of Job in the Bible to see that Satan serves God, and can only do what יהוה allows him to do. Within us, Satan is the fallen Lucifer, who is born within the psyche of every human being by means of the sexual impulse that culminates in the orgasm or sexual spasm of the fornicators. Satan, the fallen Lucifer, directs the lustful animal currents towards the atomic infernos of the human being, thus it becomes the profoundly evil adversary of our Innermost (God) and human values within our own psyche. This is why it is often identified with the leader of the fallen angels or fallen human values (parts) of our consciousness trapped within the animal mind (legions of Egos, defects, vices of the mind) in other words, Satan is the Devil or "evil" adversary of God "Good" that every body carries within their own psychological interior. The spiritual aspirant has to conquer Satan and transform him back into Lucifer, which is Latin for "bearer of Light." |

| Schools of the Baalim |
"The schools of the Baalim were instituted in the abyss by
humanity. The schools of the Baalim consist of all the
pseudo-spiritual schools that presently exist in the world. All
such external schools are from the abyss. If man wants to leave
the abyss he must liberate his mind from all these cages. When we
penetrate into the internal worlds we find all the students of the
schools of Baalim submerged in the profound darkness of black
magic. These poor beings are searching outwardly for what they
already have inside... The Baalim are the black magicians.
All such spiritualistic schools are filled with fornication and
adultery." - Igneous Rose |
| Scorpio |
(October 24th to November 22nd) The eighth sign of the zodiac. Ruled by Mars and related to the element water. “Scorpio rules the sexual organs and the redemption of man is in the sexual organs. The natives of Scorpio possess tremendous magical powers. The natives of Scorpio are irritable, rancorous, and vindictive. However, by dominating anger, vengeance, and rancor, the natives of Scorpio can transform themselves into powerful and wonderful White Magicians. Scorpios are either completely chaste or complete fornicators. The natives of Scorpio have tremendous will.” - The Manual of Practical Magic |
| Seal of Solomon |
A six-pointed star formed by two crossed triangles. Also known in India as the sign of Vishnu and used as a talisman against evil. |
| Sebek |
"The Book of the Dead says: "
I am the three-wicked Flame and my wicks are immortal, |
| Second Birth |
The creation of the soul as taught by Jesus to Nicodemus: There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: "In Gnosticism and Esotericism, one understands as Second Birth the fabrication of the Solar Bodies and the Incarnation of the Being." - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology "To incarnate the Divine Immortal Triad (Atman-Buddhi-Manas) signifies the Second Birth, which means to come out of the Ninth Sphere. The child who is born comes out from the womb. Whosoever is born within the Superior Worlds comes out of the Ninth Sphere (Sex). Whosoever reaches the Second Birth is admitted into the temple of the Twice Born. Whosoever reaches the Second Birth has to renounce sex for all eternity. The Sexual Act is absolutely forbidden for the Twice Born. Whosoever violates this law will lose his Solar Bodies and will fall into the Valley of Bitterness." - The Doomed Aryan Race In order to incarnate the Monad (the Triad) one must first create the Solar Bodies, which is only possible through White Tantrism. |
| Second Chamber |
See Chambers. |
| Second Death |
The complete dissolution of the ego in the infernal regions of nature, which in the end (after unimaginable quantities of suffering) purifies the Essence of all sin (karma) so that it may try again to reach the Self-realization of the Being. "He that overcometh (the sexual passion) shall inherit all things; and I will be his God (I will incarnate myself within him), and he shall be my son (because he is a Christified one), But the fearful (the tenebrous, cowards, unbelievers), and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21) This lake which burns with fire and brimstone is the lake of carnal passion. This lake is related with the lower animal depths of the human being and its atomic region is the abyss. The tenebrous slowly disintegrate themselves within the abyss until they die. This is the second death." - The Aquarian Message "When the bridge called “Antakarana,” which communicates the divine triad with its “inferior essence”, is broken, the inferior essence (trapped into the ego) is left separated and is sunk into the abyss of destructive forces, where it (its ego) disintegrates little by little. This is the Second Death of which the Apocalypse speaks; this is the state of consciousness called “Avitchi.” - from The Zodiacal Course " The Second Death is really painful. The ego feels as if it has been divided in different parts, the fingers fall off, its arms, its legs. It suffers through a tremendous breakdown." - from the lecture The Mysteries of Life and Death

| Secret Enemy |
“The Nous atom is sometimes called by the occultist the white or good principle of the heart. We will now speak of its opposite: the dark atom or Secret Enemy. In many ways its activities are similar to the Nous atom; for it has legions of atomic entities under its command; but they are destructive and not constructive. This Secret Enemy resides in the lower section of the spine, and its atoms oppose the student’s attempts to unite himself to his Innermost. The Secret Enemy has so much power in the atmosphere of this world that they can limit our thoughts and imprison our minds... The Secret Enemy works in every way to deny us any intelligence that would illuminate our minds, and would seek to stamp man into a machine cursed with similarity and a mind lacking all creative power... Man easily degenerates when in the power of the Secret Enemy; it preys upon the burning furnace of his desires, and when he weakens he is lost and sometimes cannot regain contact with his Innermost for two or three lives wherein he works out the karma of his evil desires.” - M, The Dayspring of Youth |
| Seed |
A symbol of the sexual seed, the sacred sperm, the Ens Seminis. Psalm 69:36: "The seed of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein." "Ancient populaces worshiped the corn, wheat and rice, because they represent the sacred seed. Mayas and Nahuas symbolized the Mercury of the Wise with corn. The Middle East and Europe saw the blessed seed in the wheat. China, Japan and India saw the sacred sperm in the rice. We transform the Ens Seminis into creative energy, which means into Mercury, only by the science of transmutation. Whosoever possesses the Mercury of the Wise can create within himself the superior existential bodies of the Being. Whosoever possesses the Mercury of the Wise within himself will abide in the city of Heliopolis. God will save Zion by virtue of the Mercury of the Wise. The interior cities will be constructed, and the Initiates will dwell in them and inherit them. A City of Light, a Heavenly Jerusalem, must be constructed within each human being." - The Pistis Sophia Unveiled |
| Seity |
Commonly defined as “that which is particular to oneself.” In occultism, Seity is “the profound and joyous Space that is the ineffable mystic root of the seven Cosmos. It is the mysterious origin of all of that which we know as Spirit, Matter, Universes, Suns, Worlds, etc.” |
| Self |
"Our real Being is of a universal nature. Our real Being is neither a kind of superior nor inferior "I." Our real Being is impersonal, universal, divine. He transcends every concept of "I," me, myself, ego, etc., etc." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony. See: Atman |
| Self-observation |
An exercise of attention, in which one learns to become an indifferent observer of one's own psychological process. True Self-observation is an active work of directed attention, without the interference of thought, emotion, or sensations. "We need attention intentionally directed towards the interior of our own selves. This is not a passive attention. Indeed, dynamic attention proceeds from the side of the observer, while thoughts and emotions belong to the side which is observed." - Samael Aun Weor, Revolutionary Psychology |
| Self-realization |
The achievement of perfect knowledge. This phrase is better stated as, “The realization of the Innermost Self,” or “The realization of the true nature of self.” At the ultimate level, this is the experiential, conscious knowledge of the Absolute, which is synonymous with Emptiness, Shunyata, or Non-being. |
| Self-remembering |
A state of active consciousness, controlled by will, that begins with awareness of being here and now. This state has many levels (see: Consciousness). True Self-remembering occurs without thought or mental processing: it is a state of conscious perception and includes the remembrance of the inner Being. "Behold how difficult is to remain with the consciousness awake from instant to instant, from moment to moment, from second after second; however, if one has true longings for becoming fully awakened - this is the beginning - one must not forget oneself, not even for a moment. Yes, one must keep remembering oneself wherever one walks - in any living room, or whichever street one goes around by walking, jogging or riding a car, whether it be at night or at daylight; wherever one might be, at work or in the shop, anywhere, one must remember oneself while in the presence of any beautiful object, or while before any window-shop where very beautiful things are being shown, etc., in other words, one must not become identified with anything that one likes or is captivated with." - The Key of SOL |
| Semen |
The sexual energy of any creature or entity. In Gnosis, "semen" is a term used for the sexual energy of both masculine and feminine bodies. For a complete definition, see: Semen. |
| Sensations |
"It is necessary to annihilate desire if we want to avoid the danger of falling. One who wants to annihilate desire must discover the causes of it. The causes of desire are found in sensations. We live in a world of sensations, and we need to comprehend them. There are five types of sensations:
"The five special types of sensations transform themselves into desire. We must not condemn the sensations; we must not justify them. We need to profoundly comprehend them. Only by comprehending the sensations do we kill desire. Only through annihilating desire is the mind liberated, a mind that is normally found bottled up within the bottle of desire. The awakening of the Consciousness occurs when the mind is liberated. If we want to exterminate the causes of desire, we need to live in a state of constant awareness. It is urgent to live in the state of alert perception and alert novelty. The ego is a big book, a book of many volumes. We can study this book only through the technique of internal meditation." - Tarot and Kabbalah |
| Sensual Mind |
One of the three types of mind that we have. "Unquestionably, the Sensual Mind develops its basic concepts via external sensory perceptions. Under these conditions the Sensual Mind is terribly crude and materialistic. It cannot accept anything which has not been physically demonstrated. Since the fundamental concepts of the Sensual Mind are based on external sensory data, undoubtedly, it can know nothing about what is real, about the truth, about the mysteries of life and death, about the Soul and the Spirit, etc. For the rogues of the intellect, totally trapped by their external senses and incarcerated within the basic concepts of the Sensual Mind, our esoteric studies are lunacy. In the reasoning of the unreasonable, in an insane world, they are right due to conditioning by the external sensory world. How could the Sensual Mind accept what is not sensory?" - The Great Rebellion |
| Sepher Yetzirah |
(Hebrew) Literally, the "book of formation." An ancient Hebrew text of Kabbalistic mysticism. You can read it here: Sepher Yetzirah. |
| Sephirah |
(Hebrew) plural: Sephiroth. literally, “jewel.” 1. An emanation of Deity. "The Ten Sephiroth of universal vibration emerge from the Ain Soph, which is the Microcosmic Star that guides our interior. This Star is the Real Being of our Being. Ten Sephiroth are spoken of, but in reality there are Twelve; the Ain Soph is the eleventh, and its tenebrous antithesis is in the Abyss, which is the twelfth Sephirah. These are twelve spheres or universal regions which mutually penetrate and co-penetrate without confusion." - Tarot and Kabbalah 2. A name of the Divine Mother. |
| Septenary |
seven-fold. |
| Seraphim |
(Hebrew) A word that comes from the Hebrew root Saraph meaning “to burn.” Seraphim literally means “the burning ones.”
1. According to the Kabbalah, Seraphim is a being related to the sephirah Geburah. 2. According to Christianity, a Seraphim is the highest type of angel, related to the sephirah Kether.
|
| Serpent |
A ubiquitous symbol throughout world religions and mythology, which always has one of two primary meanings. The serpent or snake represents either a negative intelligence (cunning) or a positive intelligence (wisdom). There are far too many examples to cite here, but significant ones include the Biblical serpent of Eden; the Bronze Serpent of Moses; the Greek serpent of the Hesperides and the dreaded Python; the Buddhist serpent that protected the Buddha; and the Egyptian serpents (both positive and negative). “Lo and behold, since Esau followed on the serpent, Jacob dealt with him slyly, as the serpent was cunning and had crooked ways. As it is written, "the serpent was more cunning than any beast” (Genesis 3:1), which means that Esau was cunning and sly (Genesis 25: 27: “And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter”). Yet, what Jacob did with Esau was serpent-like. This was as it ought to have been; by making Esau go after that serpent, so that he would be separated from Jacob, and thus share nothing with him in this world or in the world to come.” – Zohar "Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. I have waited for thy salvation, Oh Iod-Havah." - Genesis: 49:17,18 "And Iod-Havah said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived." - Numbers 21:8, 9 "Jesus said: “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”- Matthew 10:16 See also: Kundalini, Kundabuffer

| Serpents of Fire |
These are the Great Mysteries, or Seven Initiations of Major Mysteries, which are the beginning stages of the First Mountain, the Mountain of Initiation. Through the accomplishment of these processes, the initiate creates the Solar Bodies. For details, read The Perfect Matrimony and The Three Mountains. |
| Serpents of Light |
Any initiate who completes the Serpents of Fire AND chooses to continue
by walking on the Direct Path then enters into the second half of the
First Mountain. The Christ is born inside the initiate, who then begins
to illuminate each of the seven bodies of the soul (the spinal column
of each body is filled with the Light of the Christ). |
| Seth |
1) In Egyptian Mysticism, the name of the Pularized "I." |
| Seven Demons |
"Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils." - Mark 16:9 "The seven demons that the Great Master Jesus the Christ threw out of the body of Mary Magdalene are the seven deadly sins: Anger, Greed, Lust, Envy, Pride, Laziness and Gluttony. Naturally, each one of these demons separately leads a Legion [See: Legion]." - Samael Aun Weor, The Great Rebellion |
| Seven Planetary Logos |
Gabriel (Moon), Raphael (Mercury), Uriel (Venus), Michael (Sun), Samael (Mars), Zachariel (Jupiter), Orifiel (Saturn). |
| Seven Serpents |
A symbol of the degrees of initiation. There are two cycles of seven serpents each. See the Serpents of Fire and the Serpents of Light. "The Temple of Wisdom has seven columns. These are the Seven Degrees of the Power of the Fire. There are seven serpents, two groups of three plus the coronation of the sublime seventh tongue of fire, which unites us with the One, with the Law, with the Father. The first serpent belongs to the physical body, the second to the Vital Body, the third to the Astral Body, the fourth to the Mental Body, the fifth to the Body of Willpower, the sixth to the Buddhic Body and the seventh to the Intimate. These are the seven steps of knowledge. These seven serpents cannot be lifted up simultaneously. Since the Magistery of Fire is very difficult, one must advance by degrees. Initially, it is necessary to raise the first serpent, then the second. Later on, the third can be raised, then the fourth, etc. The Yogi who does not practice with the Arcanum A.Z.F. is like a garden without water. Practice any Yoga, but work with the Great Arcanum in the Magistery of Fire." - The Aquarian Message |
| Sex |
“Sex is the foundation stone of the family, because without it, the family could not exist. Sex is the foundation stone of the human being, because without it, the human being could not come into existence. Sex is the foundation stone of the Universe, because without it the Universe could not exist.” - The Perfect Matrimony "Sex can liberate or enslave the human being. No one can attain integrity, no one can be deeply Self-realized, without sexual energy. Sex is the power of the Soul." - Esoteric Course of Alchemical Kabbalah
“In order to collect their instruments the schools of the black magicians make sex worship one of their principal teachings.” - M, The Dayspring of Youth |
| Sexual Alchemy |
The esoteric knowledge contained within the ancient tradition of Alchemy. The Western equivilent of Tantra. “The philosophy of Sexual Alchemy has its principles in the school of the Essenes, in the school of Alexandria, in the teachings of Pythagoras, in the mysteries of Egypt, Troy, Rome, Carthage, Eleusis, as well as in the wisdom of the Aztecs and Mayas, etc. The procedures of the science of Sexual Alchemy must be studied in the books of Paracelsus, Nicholas Flamel, Raymond Lully. We also find these procedures hidden within the veil of all symbols, in all the hieratic figures of ancient hieroglyphics of many ancient temples, as well as in the Greek and Egyptian myths.” - The Aquarian Message |
| Sexual Energy |
"Sexual energy is divided into three distinct types. First: the energy having to do with the reproduction of the race and the health of the physical body in general. Second: the energy having to do with the spheres of thought, feeling and will. Third: the energy that is found related with the Divine Spirit of man. Indeed, sexual energy is without a doubt the most subtle and powerful energy normally produced and transported through the human organism. Everything that a human being is, including the three spheres of thought, feeling and will, is none other than the exact outcome of distinct modifications of sexual energy." - The Perfect Matrimony |
| Sexual Magic |
See: Sexual Magic. |
| Shaddai El Chai |
(Hebrew) "The Almighty Living Creature of God." Of the Four Holy Creatures, the Man. The sexual strength of Yesod. |
| Shakti |
(or Sakti; from Sanskrit, literally "force, power, energy") Symbolized as the wife of Shiva, the Third Logos, the sephirah Binah. The feminine aspect of Binah. A personification of primal energy. Symbolized by a yoni, a female sexual organ. "Sakti is symbolically female; but It is, in reality, neither male nor female. It is only a Force which manifests Itself in various forms." - Swami Sivananda |
| Shamatha |
(Samatha) Tranquility Meditation. Sha in Sanskrit means “peace.” Mata means “dwelling” or “stability.” Samatha means “to dwell or to be founded, to have establishment in peace, to dwell in peace.” This is the same as Pratyahara. The term Shamata is also related to the Tibetan shi-ne which means “peace.” Samatha is one-pointed mind, or the varying levels of concentrated attention. According to the Maitreya Buddha, there are nine distinct levels of Shamata. |
| Shambhala |
"The entire country of Shambhala is in the Jinn State; here is where the principal monasteries of the White Lodge exist." - Samael Aun Weor, The Major Mysteries "The secret country of Shamballa is in the Orient, in Tibet. The Master Jesus has a temple there. Other Masters live with him who have also resurrected and who have kept their bodies over the many ages of time." - Samael Aun Weor, The Aquarian Message |
| Shantideva |
(7th-8th century) An Indian Buddhist Master and teacher of the Madhyamaka Prasangika school. His most famous work, the Bodhicharyavatara ("The Bodhisattva Way of Life") is perhaps the most popular and widely read text of Mahayana Buddhism. |
| Sheba |
"The Hebrew word for seven is sheba. Seven is very significant in the economy of God. It is the most frequently used number in the Bible. From it is shaba, meaning, "to be complete... to seven oneself, i.e. swear (as if by repeating a declaration seven times)" Seven speaks of fullness, completion, perfection. Nothing can be added to or taken from it without it becoming marred. Being a prime number makes it divisible only by itself. The word shabath is derived from shaba, and means, to cease, desist, REST, and from this word comes Shabbath, a DAY OF REST. Therefore, seven/sheba/shabbath speaks of a completed work wherein rest (death) is found.” |
| Shechinah |
Shechinah means "Indwelling Presence." Shechinah is the feminine Divine force of God. She is the Divine Mother whose essence, feminine force or creative force is in exile (not active in us). She is the creative force of God that abides in the Chakra Muladhara. The Divine Mother Kundalini is the erotic, sensual chaste loving force underlying within the Church of Ephesus, whose veil covers the mystery of Daath. She is the fiery power within every Elohim. The exile of the Shechinah means the exile from the chaste powers of the Kundalini by means of Fornication and the falling into Klipoth through the Kundabuffer. |
| Shekinah |
Also spelled Shechinah, Shekhinah, Shekina, Shechina, Schechinah, etc. (Hebrew שכינה) Literally means "dwelling place." A feminine noun. In Kabbalah, the שכינה is the feminine aspect of God (the Divine Mother) that inhabits the temple when Israel is in harmony with God. |
| Shem Ham-mephorash |
(Hebrew השם המפורש = "Hashem Hamephorash") The “separated name,” or the “name of extension, or "the blessed name.” Specifically, a name of God that has 72 aspects and is hidden in the original Hebrew of Exodus 14:19-21. It is said that there are two versions: one positive, corresponding to White Magic, and one negative, corresponding to Black Magic. It is also the Cubic stone of Yesod, the stone that Jacob anointed with oil and "a Stone of stumbling, a rock of offense." Nicolas Valois: “It is a Stone of great virtue, and is called a Stone and is not a stone.” It is the Serpentine Fire of the Holy Spirit. |
| Shin |
[ש] The twenty-first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It symbolizes fire. The shape of shin displays the three fires or three Iods (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), the Holy Triamazikamno, the three wicks (three Vavs) within the Nun or Divine Essence of God (El-Shaddai). Its Kabbalistic numerical value is 300. Shin is one of the three mother letters (אמש). |
| Shiva |
A multifacted symbol in the Hindu pantheon. "Lord Siva is the pure, changeless, attributeless, all-pervading transcendental consciousness.... At the end of Pralaya, the Supreme Lord thinks of re-creation of the world. He is then known by the name Sadasiva. He is the root-cause of creation. From Sadasiva creation begins... [Additionally,] Lord Siva represents the destructive aspect of Brahman... He destroys all bondage, limitation and sorrow of His devotees. He is the giver of Mukti or the final emancipation. He is the universal Self. He is the true Self of all creatures. He is the dweller in the cremation-ground, in the region of the dead, those who are dead to the world. The Jivas and the world originate from Him, exist in Him, are sustained and rejected by Him and are ultimately merged in Him. He is the support, source and substratum of the whole world. He is an embodiment of Truth, Beauty, Goodness and Bliss. He is Satyam, Sivam, Subham, Sundaram, Kantam. He is the God of gods, Deva-Deva. He is the Great Deity—Mahadeva." - Swami Sivananda, Lord Siva and His Worship The Hindu Creator and Destroyer, the third aspect of the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva). The Third Logos. The Holy Spirit. The Sexual Force. The Sephira Binah. Symbolized by a Linga / lingum, a male sexual organ. |
| Shravaka |
(Sanskrit, "hearer") In the Buddhist tradition, one of the three types of spiritual trainees. The shravakas are those who "hear" the teachings and seek enlightenment for themselves, thus they are working in the foundational levels of the path. |
| Shravakayana |
(Sanskrit, literally "vehicle of the hearers") Refers to the foundational path, or the first of the three vehicles (yanas). |
| Shushumna |
(Sanskrit) A name for the semi-physical channel (nadi) of energy in the spinal column. In TIbetan Buddhism, it is called uma. "When we study the construction, location and function of the Spinal Cord and the Sushumna Nadi, we can readily say that the Spinal Cord was called Sushumna Nadi by the Yogins of yore. The Western Anatomy deals with the gross form and functions of the Spinal Cord, while the Yogins of ancient times dealt with all about the subtle (Sukshma) nature. Now in Kundalini Yoga, you should have a thorough knowledge of this Nadi. Sushumna extends from the Muladhara Chakra (second vertebra of coccygeal region) to Brahmarandhra. The Western Anatomy admits that there is a central canal in the Spinal Cord, called Canalis Centralis and that the cord is made up of grey and white brain-matter. Spinal Cord is dropped or suspended in the hollow of the spinal column. In the same way, Sushumna is dropped within the spinal canal and has subtle sections." - Swami Sivananda, Kundalini Yoga
|
| Siddhasana |
("The Perfect Pose") A seated posture for meditation or Alchemy. It is described by Swami Sivananda as follows: "Next to Padmasana comes Siddhasana in importance. Some eulogise this Asana as even superior to Padmasana for purposes of Dhyana. If you get mastery over this Asana, you will acquire many Siddhis. Further it was being practised by many Siddhas of yore. Hence the name Siddhasana. Even fatty persons with big thighs can practise this Asana easily. In fact this is better to some persons than Padmasana. Young Brahmacharins who attempt to get established in celibacy should practise this Asana. This Asana is not suitable for ladies. Place one heel at anus. Keep the other heel on the root of the generative organ. The feet or legs should be so nicely arranged that the ankle-joints should touch each other. Hands can be placed as in Padmasana." |
| Sidereal World |
The Astral World. |
| Sikh religion |
"Nanak, the founding Master of the Sikh Religion in the sacred land of the Vedas, taught the path of the Heart. Nanak taught fraternity among all Religions, Schools, sects, etc. When we attack all Religions or any Religion in particular, we commit the crime of violating the Law of the Heart. In the Heart Temple, there is a place for all religions, sects, orders, etc. All Religions are precious pearls strung on the golden thread of the Divinity. Our Gnostic Movement is made up by people of all religions, schools, sects, spiritual societies, etc. In the Heart Temple there is place for all religions, for all worships. Jesus said: “In loving one another thou shalt prove that thou art my disciples.” The Sikh Scriptures, like those of every religion, are really ineffable." - The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |
| Silver Shield |
"Through Yoga practice atoms called Transformation atoms of a higher voltage are attracted and formed into a mental shield that protects the student from opposing forces in Nature and man. It is the temple in which the Master atom of the mind will reside and is the condenser and transmitter of the powerful voltage of the Innermost." - The Dayspring of Youth "The Mental Body is enveloped by a silken membrane, which protects it and keeps it in line with the cerebrospinal nervous system. This covering is the Silver Shield of the Mental Body." - Samael Aun Weor, The Revolution of Beelzebub |
| Simon Magus |
(Gnostic) A very powerful Gnostic teacher who unfortunately fell into black magic. "Simon Magus, the magician of New Testament fame, is often supposed to have been the founder of Gnosticism. If this be true, the sect was formed during the century after Christ and is probably the first of the many branches which have sprung from the main trunk of Christianity. Everything with which the enthusiasts of the early Christian Church might not agree they declared to be inspired by the Devil. That Simon Magus had mysterious and supernatural powers is conceded even by his enemies, but they maintained that these powers were lent to him by the infernal spirits and furies which they asserted were his ever present companions. Undoubtedly the most interesting legend concerning Simon is that which tells of his theosophic contests with the Apostle Peter while the two were promulgating their differing doctrines in Rome [See: The Acts of Peter and Paul]." - Manly P. Hall, The Secret Teachings of All Ages (1928) "Evilness is so fine and delicate that even the Master H. P. Blavatsky firmly believed that Simon the Magician was a Master of the White Lodge. Master Huiracocha [Arnold Krumm-Heller] also believed that Simon the Magician was a great Gnostic Master, and he told us that everything that ‘Papus’ and other authors have taught in the past years about magic was taken from Simon the Magician. The only one who was not mistaken with respect to Simon the Magician was Dante Alighieri in his Divine Comedy. [...] Simon the Magician profoundly knew about Sexual Alchemy and the Great Arcanum. However, he fell into black magic because he continued to look into the past and he did not want to accept Christ." - Samael Aun Weor, Treatise of Sexual Alchemy |
| Sivananda, Swami |
Born in 1887 in the village of Pattamadai on the bank of the river Tamraparani in South India. He was named Kuppuswamy, and became a doctor who through his practice in Malaysia, actively served all levels of society. Once a Sadhu gave him a book "Jiva Brahma Aikyam" by Sri Swami Satchidananda. It ignited the dormant spirituality in him. He began to study the books of Swami Rama Tirtha, Swami Vivekananda, Sankara, Imitation of Christ, the Bible, and literature of the Theosophical Society. He was very regular in his daily worship, prayer and Yoga Asanas. Study of sacred scriptures like the Gita, the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata, and the Ramayana was done with great devotion. Sometimes he conducted Nandan Charitam and sang Bhajans and Kirtans. He practiced Anahat Laya Yoga and Swara Sadhana. He renounced worldly life, wandered across India, and took the vows of a renunciate (sanyasa) in Rishekesh, acquiring the spiritual name Swami Sivananda Saraswati. Swami Sivananda dressed to clothe himself, ate to live, and lived to serve humanity. A small dilapidated Kutir (hut), not resorted to by others and infested with scorpions, protected him from rain and sun. Living in that Kutir, he did intense Tapas (austerities), observed silence, and fasted. Often he fasted for days on end. He would keep a good stock of bread in his room, and for a week have this, together with Ganges water. He would stand up to the hips in the ice-cold Ganges in winter mornings and commence his mantra practice, coming out only when the sun appeared. He would spend more than twelve hours in daily meditation. With all his intense Tapas, Swamiji did not neglect service of the sick. He visited the huts of the Sadhus with medicines, served them, and shampooed their legs. He begged food on their behalf and fed them with his own hands when they fell sick. He brought water from the Ganges and washed their Kutirs. He attended upon cholera and smallpox cases. If necessary, he kept vigil through the night by the side of the bed of the ailing Sadhu. He carried sick persons on his back to the hospital. With some money from his insurance policy that had matured, Swamiji started a charitable dispensary at Lakshmanjula in 1927. Swamiji practiced all the various Yogas and studied the scriptures. After years of intense and unbroken practice, he enjoyed the bliss of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. Swami Sivananda radiated his divine and lofty message of service, meditation and God-realization to all parts of the world through his books, running to more than three hundred, through periodicals and letters. His devoted disciples are drawn from all religions, cults and creeds in the world. He founded several organizations, all dedicated to the service of humanity. Swami Sivananda's Yoga, which he has significantly called the 'Yoga of Synthesis', effects a harmonious development of the 'hand', 'head' and 'heart' through the practice of Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. On the 14th of July 1963, the Great Soul Swami Sivananda entered Mahasamadhi (departure of a Self-realized saint from his mortal coil) in his Kutir on the bank of Ganga, in Shivanandanagar. (Edited from The Divine Life Society website) |
| Sixth Root Race |
The race of humanity which will arise after the destruction of the current (Fifth) Root Race, which is at the end of its cycle. |
| Skandhas |
(Sanskrit; Tibetan: phung po) Literally “group, pile, aggregate, heap.” A general term of Buddhist philosophy describing the basic faculties of a sentient being or “personality.”
Each aggregate is composed of a combination of factors and parts, which implies that it does not have independent existence. This is the basis for the Buddhist argument that there is no independently existing self. The Skandhas relate to five lower bodies or sephiroth.
It is said in Buddhism that our suffering comes from the attachments and cravings that reside within the skandhas, or in other words, the egos live within the psyche of the terrestrial man. The bodies of the soul (skandhas) must be cleaned and purified through alchemical birth and psychological death. This work is done by the Cosmic Christ within the Bodhisattva, as clearly symbolized in the Prajnaparamita Sutra:
|
| Smyrna |
"When the serpent ascends to the height of the prostate (uterus), the Church of Smyrna is opened. This chakra has six petals and confers the powers of creation. Creation is not possible without the prostatic chakra. The supreme rector of the prostatic Chakra is the immortal Babaji, a Yogi Christ from India whose physical body has existed for millions of years that are lost in the night of time. Babaji drives all life and has the power to create and create again. The elemental water of the Wise (Ens Seminis) is the element of this chakra. Whosoever opens the church of Smyrna has the power to control the waters and tempests." - from The Yellow Book |
| Solar Bodies |
A reference to the sacred vehicle(s) that the initiate must construct in order to ascend into the superior worlds. Various traditions number them differently depending upon the point of view. The physical, vital, astral, mental, and causal bodies that are created through the beginning stages of Alchemy/Tantra and that provide a basis for existence in their corresponding levels of nature, just as the physical body does in the physical world. These bodies or vehicles are superior due to being created out of Solar (Christic) Energy, as opposed to the inferior, lunar bodies we receive from nature. Also known as the Wedding Garment (Christianity), the Merkabah (Kabbalah), To Soma Heliakon (Greek), and Sahu (Egyptian). "All the Masters of the White Lodge, the Angels, Archangels, Thrones, Seraphim, Virtues, etc., etc., etc. are garbed with the Solar Bodies. Only those who have Solar Bodies have the Being incarnated. Only someone who possesses the Being is an authentic Human Being." - Samael Aun Weor, The Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology |
| Solar channel |
One of the two non-physical channels of energy alongside the spinal column. The solar channel carries the "red" or warming energies of the vital body. In various traditions it is known as pingala, adam, od, rasana, and roma. |
| Solomon |
(Hebrew שלמה, Shĕlomoh)
"Azasel is an Egregore who gave great assistance to humanity. Azasel was the king Solomon. Actually, the Bodhisattva of Azasel is fallen, but it is logical that, in the close future, this Bodhisattva will rise from the clay of the earth again." - Samael Aun Weor, The Aquarian Message
|
| Solve et Coagula |
(Latin) “Dissolve and coagulate.” |
| Soma |
This term has a variety of applications and two primary derviations: First, it is the name of the sacred drink of the Gods according to ancient Indian religious texts. The word soma means "to press," and refers to a drink made of the juice of a plant. This drink is related to the god Chandra "the bright," who is related to the Moon. (Chandra is often mistakenly called Soma). It was said that it was the force of Chandra the Moon that gave life to all animals, Gods, humans and spirits. (This is very interesting to consider in light of what Samael Aun Weor taught regarding the Selenite humanity, which inhabited the Moon in the previous Age). The second primary derivation is from the Greek, in which soma means "body." This word refers to the body and mind as one, and is the root of many terms, such as "psycho-soma-tic." In the context of the teachings of Samael Aun Weor, soma also refers to the moon and is a symbol of the woman. In modern times, the term is used to refer to hallucenogenic substances. "He to whom heaven and earth bow down; he at whose might the mountains are appalled; he who is the drinker of the Soma juice, the firm of frame, the adamant armed, the wielder of the thunderbolt; he, men, is Indra." - Rig Veda |
| Soma Pneumatikon |
from Greek Soma Pneuma eikon: Soma meaning body; Pneuma (spirit), and ikon derives from Eikōn meaning image. Literally, the Spirit Body Image. |
| Soma Psuchikon |
from Greek Soma Psyche eikon: Soma meaning body; Psuch (psyche) soul, and ikon derives from Eikōn meaning image. Literally, the Soul Body Image. |
| Son of Man |
"In the early parts of the Bible, the original Hebrew for Son of Man is בן-אדם [Ben-Adam]. Later, it is Ben-Enosh, בר אנש. In the later books in the New Testament it is in Greek [υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου]. In some cases, the phrase literally refers to a common person. But in others, the meaning is something elevated, superior. In the gospels, the great teacher Jesus refers to the Son of Man often. But he says it in a way that is very interesting. He never says “I.” He talks about the Son of Man in the sense that it is him and it is not him. He says the Son of Man will be persecuted and will rise again. He is talking about himself, but at the same time he is not talking about himself. Why is that? Because he is not the only one. The Son of Man is a symbol of how the force of the cosmic Christ expresses itself through Chokmah, the Second Logos, which is the Son, and becomes humanized in the initiate." - Course: The Book of Revelation "When the Beloved One [Christ] becomes transformed into the soul, and when the soul becomes transformed into the Beloved One, that which we call the Son of Man is born from this ineffable, divine, and human mixture. The great Lord of Light, being the Son of the living God, becomes the Son of Man when he transform himself into the Human Soul. The Sun-Man is the result of all our purifications and bitterness. The Sun-Man is divine and human. The Son of Man is the final outcome of the human being. He is the child of our sufferings, the solemn mystery of the transubstantiation." - Samael Aun Weor, The Aquarian Message (1960) "The Son of Man is born in the Ninth Sphere. The Son of Man is born of Water and Fire. When the Alchemist has completed his work in the mastery of Fire, he receives the Venustic Initiation. The betrothal of the Soul to the Lamb is the greatest festival of the Soul. That great Lord of Light enters Her. He becomes human; She becomes divine. From this divine and human mixture is born that which with so much certainty the Adorable One called “the Son of Man.” The greatest triumph of supreme adoration is the birth of the Son of Man in the manger of the world. The man and woman who love each other are truly two miraculous, harmonious harps, an ecstasy of glory, that which cannot be defined because if it is defined it is disfigured. That is love. The kiss is the profound mystic consecration of two souls who adore each other, and the sexual act is the key with which we become Gods. Gods, there is God. All of you who truly love, know that God is love. To love, how beautiful it is to love. Love is nourished with love; only with love are the alchemical weddings possible. Jesus, the Beloved One, reached the Venustic Initiation in the Jordan. In the moment of the baptism, Christ entered within the adorable Jesus through the pineal gland. The word was made flesh and lived amongst us, and we beheld his glory as the Father’s only son full of grace and truth." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony (1950) |
| Soul |
The modern definition and usage of this word is filled with contradictions, misconceptions, and misuse. In Gnosis (the heart of all religions), the meaning is very precise. The English word comes from the Old English sawol, meaning the "spiritual and emotional part of a person." In Kabbalah, the spiritual and emotional part of the person is related to the sephiroth Hod (emotion), Netzach (mind), Tiphereth (will; Human Soul), and Geburah (consciousness; Divine Soul). Furthermore, these sephiroth undergo stages of growth, explained as five types or levels of soul: nephesh, neshemah, ruach, chaiah, and yechidah. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the word soul is usually related to the Sanskrit word Atman, defined as "self." (See Atman for more information). Yet, this word has been misinterpreted for centuries. Gnosis agrees with the teaching of the Buddha that explains that there is no permanent, eternally existing element beyond the body that defines a person. Gnosis teaches us that the soul - even when created and refined - is merely a vehicle, and as such is impermanent. In reality, the common person does not have a "soul" yet; they have the essence or seed of the soul, which must be grown through the "second birth." As Jesus explained, "With patience ye shall possess thy souls." (Luke 21) Thus, the development of the soul is the mere beginning of the path to full development. Afterward, there are far greater works to accomplish. The term "soul" should not be confused with "spirit," which refers to a higher aspect of the Innermost (Atman or Chesed). |
| Sound |
"Creation is the outcome of the evolving processes of sound. Sound is the expression of sexuality. The Angels create with the sexual power of the creative larynx. The primordial, unmanifested sound, through its incessant evolving processes, is converted into energetic forms of stabilized, dense matter. The unmanifested, primordial sound is the still, small voice. The primordial sound contains in itself the masculine-feminine sexual forces. These forces multiply and complicate in conformity with our descent into the difficult abyss of matter. The positive pole of sound is the miraculous force which attracts us towards the unmanifested Absolute where only happiness reigns. The negative pole of sound is the tenebrous force which attracts us to this valley of bitterness. The positive pole is solar, christic, divine. The negative pole is lunar and is represented by the Moon." - Samael Aun Weor, The Perfect Matrimony |
| Spagyria |
(Greek) Spagyria or spagyric medicine comes from the Greek “spao,” to extract, and “ageiro,” to reunite. "Alchemy, as demonstrated by two of its most prominent exponents, Basil Valentine and Paracelsus, is concerned not only with the attainment of the Philosopher's Stone, but with the preparation of medicines, by which is meant the separation of the ethereal from the gross, the true secret of the Spagyric Art." - Manly P. Hall "Therefore learn Alchemy, which is otherwise called Spagyria. This teaches you to discern between the true and the false. Such a Light of Nature is it that it is a mode of proof in all things, and walks in light." - Paracelsus, Paramirum, Lib. I., c. 3. "...when the medieval spagyrists referred to plants, they were not referring to vegetation, but to the plant human being. Therefore, the entire spagyrics of Philipus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim (Aureolus Paracelsus) and his disciples is absolutely sexual. " - Samael Aun Weor, Treatise of Sexual Alchemy |
| Spiral Path |
The path of gradual spiritual development chosen by the Pratyeka Buddhas. Such beings have developed the soul but not eliminated the ego. They are called saints, angels, buddhas, etc. but are not one hundred percent awakened. The Spiral Path is in stark contrast to the very difficult Straight Path (or Path of the Bodhisattva), chosen by very few, because it requires the rapid and complete elimination of all ego (karma). To learn more, study The Three Mountains by Samael Aun Weor. |
| Spiritual Soul |
Also called the Divine Soul. Related to Geburah on the Tree of Life. |
| Spiritualism |
The pseudo-religions or doctrines which state that the Masters, Prophets, and Angels of the beyond communicate with the living through mediumistic practices by means of Mediums / Channelers. Many of these groups are now called "New Age" movements. Most proclaim to teach the "channeled" messages of St. Germain, Jesus Christ, Moria, even Samael or other such Masters.
"We will end this by clarifying that within the term “Spiritualism” we are including all those cages-like schools where futile, chattering parrots gather, namely: Theosophism, Rosicrucianism, Spiritualism, Aquarianism, Martinism, Masonry, Mazdaznan, Circles of Communion of Thought, Anthroposophism, diverse independent groups, Brethren of Dharma, Krishnamurtianism, and thousands of religious sects or spiritual groups whose doctrines are filled with mystical fornication, useless intellectualism and absurd fanaticism. nderstand that when we use the term “Spiritualism,” we are addressing their fornicating spiritualist devotees, because through that term we are embracing all those types of fornicating people who belong to the distinct schools, lodges, orders, halls, centers, etc. " - The Major Mysteries |
| Sravaka |

| St. Germain |
"The Count of St. Germain, Master of Cagliostro, rejuvenated himself at will and appeared and disappeared instantaneously when it was least expected. The Count of St. Germain even gave himself the luxury of passing as dead and, after entering into the sepulcher, was able to escape from it by placing his body into “Jinn” state. There exists the belief that he was born in Jerusalem and that he had an age of more than 2000 or 3000 years. We know that the Count of St. Germain lives with the same physical body. This great Master worked with the Arcanum A.Z.F., that is to say, he practiced sexual magic intensely. Thus, this is the reason for his power. This is why he received the Elixir of Longevity." - Samael Aun Weor, The Aquarian Message |
| Staurus |

| Steiner, Rudolf |
(1861-1925) Rudolf Steiner was born in the part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that is modern day Croatia to a German-speaking middle-class family. In childhood he showed great precocity, teaching himself geometry at the age of eight and absorbing the fundamentals of philosophy, geography, calculus, Latin and Greek by the age of 15. Steiner took a degree in physics, chemistry and mathematics while simultaneously attending lectures in literature and philosophy at the University of Vienna. -In addition to his interest in scientific and philosophical knowledge, Steiner also “complained” of being clairvoyant from early childhood, and by his early twenties had begun to develop his own philosophy of spiritual science, in which he sought to present a scientific, empirical approach to metaphysical considerations. Influenced by the spiritual writings of Goethe, the first of numerous publications on a variety of topics now appeared – Truth and Knowledge, The Philosophy of Freedom, Goethe’s Conception of the World – texts which were to form the basis of Steiner’s later influential work in education, medicine, agriculture and social science. Steiner went on to conduct hundreds of public and private lectures on diverse topics all over Europe. A large number of these lectures were transcribed and published. His multi-faceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches in medicine, science, education (Waldorf schools), special education, philosophy, religion, economics, agriculture (Bio-Dynamic method), architecture, drama, the new art of eurythmy, and other fields. In 1925 he founded the General Anthroposophical Society, which today has branches throughout the world. |

| Subjective |
“What do modern psychologists understand as “objective?” They understand it to be that which is external to the mind: the physical, the tangible, the material.
“Yet, they are totally mistaken, because when analysing the term “subjective,” we see that it signifies “sub, under,” that which is below the range of our perceptions. What is below our perceptions? Is it not perhaps the Infernal Worlds? Is it not perhaps subjective that which is in the physical or beneath the physical? So, what is truly subjective is what is below the limits of our perceptions.
“Psychologists do not know how to use the former terms correctly.
“Objective: the light, the resplendence; it is that which contains the Truth, clarity, lucidity.
“Subjective: the darkness, the tenebrous. The subjective elements of perception are the outcome of seeing, hearing, touching, smelling and tasting. All of these are perceptions of what we see in the third dimension. For example, in one cube we see only length, width and height. We do not see the fourth dimension because we are bottled up within the ego. The subjective elements of perception are constituted by the ego with all of its “I’s.” - Tarot and Kabbalah “The modern, revolutionary psychology of the new Age of Aquarius utilizes the terms “objective ” and “subjective” in the following way: A) Objective - Real, spiritual, true, divine, etc. B) Subjective - Vague, incoherent, not precise, illusory, fantastical, absurd.” - The Three Mountains |
| Succubus |
(plural: succubi) a creature of female form who has sexual intercourse with men in their dreams and fantasies. Etymology: Middle English, from Medieval Latin, alteration of Latin succuba paramour, from succubare to lie under, from sub- + cubare to lie, recline. "The terms incubus and succubus have been applied indiscriminately by the Church Fathers to elementals. The incubus and succubus, however, are evil and unnatural creations, whereas elementals is a collective term for all the inhabitants of the four elemental essences. According to Paracelsus, the incubus and succubus (which are male and female respectively) are parasitical creatures subsisting upon the evil thoughts and emotions of the astral body. These terms are also applied to the superphysical organisms of sorcerers and black magicians. While these larvæ are in no sense imaginary beings, they are, nevertheless, the offspring of the imagination. By the ancient sages they were recognized as the invisible cause of vice because they hover in the ethers surrounding the morally weak and continually incite them to excesses of a degrading nature. For this reason they frequent the atmosphere of the dope den, the dive, and the brothel, where they attach themselves to those unfortunates who have given themselves up to iniquity. By permitting his senses to become deadened through indulgence in habit-forming drugs or alcoholic stimulants, the individual becomes temporarily en rapport with these denizens of the astral plane. The houris seen by the hasheesh or opium addict and the lurid monsters which torment the victim of delirium tremens are examples of submundane beings, visible only to those whose evil practices are the magnet for their attraction." - Secret Teachings of All Ages (1928) by Manly P. Hall |
| Suffering |
In Buddhism, the Four Noble Truths explain the basis of spiritual pursuit: "It is through not understanding, not realizing four things, that I, Disciples, as well as you, had to wander so long through this round of rebirths. And what are these four things? They are the Noble Truth of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Origin of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Extinction of Suffering, the Noble Truth of the Path that leads to the Extinction of Suffering." It is said that there are three types of suffering:
“Nirvana” or liberation is the release from suffering. "Only a tremendous revolution can save us from the abyss. When the human being dissolves the “I,” then there is a complete revolution. The human being will stop suffering only when he will be capable of dissolving the “I,” since pain is nothing more than the result of our evil deeds. Thus, pain belongs to Satan (the “I”) because he is the one who commits the evil deeds. The Absolute Abstract Space, the Universal Spirit of Life, is absolute happiness, supreme peace and abundance. Therefore, those who make a mysticism out of pain are masochists, since Satan (the “I”) was and is the creator of pain." - The Aquarian Message “You are liberated when your delusions and contaminated karmic actions are exhausted.” - Nagarjuna "The personality, the individuality and the “I” are the hard chains that bind us to the hard rock of suffering and bitterness. Gods and humans are submitted to the suffering of conditioned life." - The Major Mysteries |
| Sukla |
(or Shukla; from Sanskrit) Literally, \light\ or \white,\ and embodiment of purity or religion. This word is used to hide a variety of meanings, primarily semen or solar fluid. \The southern rays of the sun are the honey-cells on the right. The Yagus verses are the bees, the Yagur-veda sacrifice is the flower, the water is the nectar. Those very Yagus verses brooded over the Yagur-veda sacrifice; and from it, thus brooded on, sprang as its essence, fame, glory of countenance, vigour, strength, and health. That flowed forth and went towards the sun. And that forms what we call the white (sukla) light of the sun.\ - Upanishads |

| Superman |
The term Superman first appeared in English in 1903 when George Bernard Shaw translated the German Übermensch, "highly evolved human being that transcends good and evil," from "Thus Spake Zarathustra" (1883-91), by Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900). This term refers to a type of human being far beyond the ordinary person. In general, there are three types of human beings:
"The masses qualify the Superman as perverse for the very fact that he does not fit in with indisputable dogmas, neither within pious phrases, nor within the upright morality of seri- ous people. People abhor the Superman. They crucify him amongst criminals because they do not understand him, because they prejudge him, viewing him through the psychological lenses of what is believed to be holy, even if it is evil. The Superman is like a flash of lightening which falls over the perverse, or like the brilliance of something which is not understood and which is later lost in mystery. The Superman is not a saint, nor is he perverse; he is beyond sanctity and perversity. Nevertheless, people qualify him as holy or perverse. The Superman glimmers for a moment within the dark- ness of this world and soon afterwards disappears forever. Within the Superman, the Red Christ, the revolutionary Christ, the Lord of the great rebellion radiantly shines." - Samael Aun Weor, The Great Rebellion |
| Svabhavikakaya |
(Sanskrit; also known as Jnanakaya) The Essence-Kaya, the Essence-Body that is formed by liberating the kayas of light that which the Hebrews call "Igneous Particles", "Hashim" (literally, "the fires") or "Igneous Souls”, from the skandhas (psychological aggregates). It is the body of liberation, the Rainbow Body. The Svabhavikakaya is counted as the Fourth Kaya, it is the receptacle of the three Solar Kayas, or the unity or non-separateness of the three kayas. In other teachings, it is called theomertmalogos. |
| Symbolism |
"From age to age the vision of a perfect civilization is preserved as the ideal for mankind. In the midst of that civilization shall stand a mighty university wherein both the sacred and secular sciences concerning the mysteries of life will be freely taught to all who will assume the philosophic life. Here creed and dogma will have no place; the superficial will be removed and only the essential be preserved. The world will be ruled by its most illumined minds, and each will occupy the position for which he is most admirably fitted. The great university will be divided into grades, admission to which will be through preliminary tests or initiations. Here mankind will be instructed in the most sacred, the most secret, and the most enduring of all Mysteries--Symbolism. Here the initiate will be taught that every visible object, every abstract thought, every emotional reaction is but the symbol of an eternal principle. Here mankind will learn that CHiram (Truth) lies buried in every atom of Kosmos; that every form is a symbol and every symbol the tomb of an eternal verity. Through education--spiritual, mental, moral, and physical--man will learn to release living truths from their lifeless coverings. The perfect government of the earth must be patterned eventually after that divine government by which the universe is ordered. In that day when perfect order is reestablished, with peace universal and good triumphant, men will no longer seek for happiness, for they shall find it welling up within themselves. Dead hopes, dead aspirations, dead virtues shall rise from their graves, and the Spirit of Beauty and Goodness repeatedly slain by ignorant men shall again be the Master of Work. Then shall sages sit upon the seats of the mighty and the gods walk with men." - Manly P. Hall, The Secret Teachings of All Ages |
